  • It annoys me when people act like it's a badge of honor to use a regular thermometer instead of a BBT thermometer. If you could be more accurate, why wouldn't you? It's not like they're expensive.

I HATE showers and baths.  Like legitimately can't stand either.  I like to be clean so obviously I do shower every day but I'm in and out in probably 3 minutes if I don't wash my hair and maybe 7 if I do.  Possibly 10 minutes if I shave.  I don't know why I hate them.  I just always have.  My Mom would constantly have to harass me to get in one.  Baths are even worse.  It's not even the usual "soaking in your own dirt." That aspect doesn't bother me. (eta: nor do I think it's appealing. lol) I find them uncomfortable and boring.  I don't find either relaxing.

For me the regular thermometer is just as accurate. I am still able to see a clear temperature shift. Since it isn't about the individual temperatures and more about the overall pattern I decided not to go and buy another thermometer when I already had one.

@sarah0985, I was a bit like that too until I enlisted. Our showers were generally 3 minutes long (and that's being generous), and we had to cram over 15 of us in the showers at a time (there were about 50 of us total), sometimes two to three people to a shower head, and constantly rotating in and out. They were called "hot spot" showers, as in get what you need clean and get out. Lots of people would just do a "baby wipe shower" instead. Grrrrrrossssssss.
I can still take a super short shower, but I LOVE showers now. It's weird, I'm almost obsessed. I will take two (sometimes three!) in a day. Too much soap isn't good, so sometimes I'll just stand in the hot water.
    One extreme to another!

I don't know who it was, but someone said they needed to leave the thermometer in after it beeps to get an accurate reading. That seems really inefficient and like it introduces inaccuracy into the equation.

That's definitely weird.  I don't have a BBT one but for my own reasons and badge of honor certainly isn't it.  But if that was happening and for whatever reason you don't want/have access to a BBT, just buy a different regular thermometer?

  • So I don't know if this really fits here because I think you all would have my back, but it's an UO at work.
It's an UO among coworkers to ask kindly for smokers not to sit near me. My bosses told me I have the authority to do so (even after I said I thought it would be rude of me to ask) because it's a medical issue. The lingering smoke/toxins causes the inflammation in my chest/around my lungs to get crazy inflamed and I have trouble breathing. The swelling in my chest also puts pressure on my heart which is incredibly painful.

One person that does this thinks I'm targeting her. FYI- this is her universe and we are lucky to live in it. She hates me, yet must take the seat next to mine every day. I'm the only one that can do my job on shift, and I have to sit at a particular desk, others can choose where to sit. She's actually disabled (I helped train her mobility dog where I volunteer...) so you'd think she would have more understanding when it comes to someone's health. But no, go take an ashtray bath and bring it in the office so I can have trouble breathing for ten hours. It's causing a ton of drama at work (she plays the victim and tells people how mean I am...).

BTW- I'm a former smoker (quit several years ago), so I'm not just being angry or targeting people. It's a legit health issue but some people seem to think it's an UO and ignore it.

Those are definitely extremes! HAHA! And I do the (we call them) "bird bath" when camping or at our cabin in the mountains.  There's no water pipes up there so it has to be brought up.  No big deal when its just a few people but when there's 15-20 people, showers are only on a as-needed basis.  Kids just get thrown in the creek.  lol. And after a few days of that, I will legitimately enjoy a good shower and scrub.

Maybe I've been living under a rock, but I had never actually heard this until I joined this board. I find it a very strange way to say that you're pregnant, but I assumed it was possibly a regional thing and maybe people in my area don't use it.

@penelope4612, hahahahahaha I'll have to figure something out. A friend told me to eat pistachios every day. She claims to be "deathly allergic" to them, yet she only has a "reaction" when she finds out people have eaten them hours before. Up until she finds out she's perfectly fine, but as soon as she hears that she pretends she can't breathe and then will drive herself to the "ER" (aka her house). She never carries anything for her allergy (they sell pistachios in the vending machine at work so you think she would be prepared with at least benadryl).

Last time she said that her doctor told her that she would prescribe her a "shit-ton" of epi pens, because that's how she thinks it works. She seriously tried to get all nuts banned from the office, even though we've seen her eat things with nuts in them. Someone (not me because prison scares me if it turns out she was allergic) put pistachios in a coffee bean grinder and sprinkled them on her seat. She sat there for ten hours with zero issues. But if she hears that someone cracked a pistachio three days ago she will fake an attack and drive home. Allergies are a serious issue and it makes me mad when people fake them for attention and pity.

I also gave this same person the information of my therapist who basically cured my PTSD in less than four months (it's a really new concept/technique and it's proven to work). She gets money from the VA due to her PTSD claim, so she told me she would rather not get help so she could continue to get money if they reevaluate her claim. This is about the time I started putting pieces together and realized she was BSC, an AW, and enjoyed pity parties for one (said in my best hostess voice). I'm pretty sure she fakes everything at this point.

Oh, and her dog that I trained, she's certified for mobility and PTSD, she is so sweet, but I saw the crazy bitch slap her in the face for no reason. She hit the dog hard and luckily I'm not the only one who witnessed it. I'm required to report that to the place I volunteer for and they will revoke her certificates. We (volunteers) are not supposed to confront/intervene when it happens for legal reasons or something, I don't know the rules otherwise I would have. So this will be just one more thing that I'm "doing to her." She's very, very good at playing the victim. But I'm the "bad guy" for asking for smokers not to sit right next to me.

Sorry for the long rant, the can of worms just opened up and spilled everywhere. How I feel about this:

  • I hate going to the hair salon because I hate spending so much money on my hair.

I don't want to spend that much money but I also don't want to look a fright.

    image

Ugh, so much this! This might be an UO itself but... The past couple years I've been youtubing and researching like crazy, learning all kinds of tricks and techniques to do my hair at home (and how not to ruin my hair in the process). They don't always turn out so well, but I've been getting better results! A time or two I've had to wear the ponytail of shame.

I use the ponytail on the forehead method to cut my hair (it's long so it's easy to do and layers it at the same time). I buy professional grade hair color, Wella Professionals - Koleston Perfect or Illumina Color are my go-tos. Koleston collection has more colors (they are mixable) and they are more vibrant. Illumina colors are gorgeous and look more natural, but can also be mixed to create all kinds of colors.
Wella has a new Color ID thing that you can put in the mix and you don't even have to use foils! You can use multiple colors and it won't bleed onto each other. I just find them on Amazon from reputable sellers because Wella won't sell to consumers. It can be pricey to start out with, but it's still cheaper than a salon visit (for me), and it usually lasts for a while, especially the developer. I know most people don't go this route, but wanted to throw it out there in case anyone else does this (links to my favs below, the website can we weird, but the swatch pdf is really the most important IMO).

By the way, I'm not a super crazy person, this started because the colors used at most salons are too harsh for my scalp and I end up with terrible scabbing all over and can't brush my hair for a couple weeks. So I found professional brand that was safe for me and have been doing this ever since.

Koleston Colors (the main page and the swatches pdf)

Illumina Colors (main page and swatches pdf)

Picture of color id because I think it's so crazy. I just bought the color id stuff a little bit ago and I'm so excited to try it out!

  • I totally agree about the whole "fell pregnant" thing.  I'm sure it's just cultural, but the implication bugs me.  And for that matter, so does the phrase "knocked up."  What about just saying "I got pregnant." What's wrong with that?

Unrelated to TTC, my UO is - I think going to concerts sucks! It's probably just the introvert in me, but ... there are too many people and it's crazy crowded and overwhelming, you often have to stand the whole time, and I'm short so I can rarely actually see anything, the artists almost never sound as good as they do recorded, you have to listen to a bunch of songs you don't like to get to hear the ones you do, and it's super expensive!

I know some people love concerts, and more power to them, but I'd just rather not.
