Best maternity work pants?

Hi ladies-

I'm probably still a month out from needing maternity pants, but I've started perusing the stores. I bought a couple pairs of maternity jeans from my favorite jean brand, but of course my favorite store for pants doesn't sell maternity sizes.

What are your favorite stores to buy non-expensive, but decent quality work pants? Unfortunately, it's dead cold December-March where I live, so I won't be wearing dresses til at least April. I work in an office 4 days a week, so I thinking I will be able to get by with 3 or 4 pairs?

Re: Best maternity work pants?

  • I have decided not to wear real pants.  Just fleece lined leggings and dresses and the palazzo pants because they are so stretchy and giving! That's about all I wear anyway year round.  Its cold where I am too and I just wear leggings or something under the pants and I keep a blanket & heater in my office at work.

I am trying to not buy a bunch of maternity clothes because I will not wear them again.  With first baby I just wore bigger clothes instead of maternity.  Afterwards I could wear most of the clothes still as loose tops/dresses.

  • I'm a first timer so I don't have personal experience yet, but my SIL said she got some nice work pants from macys
  • My go to is Gap or Pink Blush (online store).  I have found Kohls to be crap.

Do you live in Chicago? Judging off your icon... I am in Minnesota, and wasn't big in the winter with my first.  I will most definitely need a good coat for when February rolls around...

  • Oh ya - and in general, ASOS is a great online store too.  Free returns.  I always buy two, and return the one that doesn't fit. :-)

  • @NicknShan yes I'm in Chicago!! Was your first also due in June? I just bought a new winter coat with a bit of room in the belly region, but I'm thinking it will be snug February/March. I'm hoping it will be as warm as predicted and I can get by with a maternity spring coat for the end of the 2nd/beginning of 3rd trimesters!
  • DH works for Gap Inc (he works for Old Navy) and whenever one of my friends would get pregnant we would be sure to include them in the quarterly Friends and Family discounts for Gap.  While most of my friends won't shop at Gap regularly- once the bump starts to peek out they need to switch from Banana Republic to Gap for work clothes.  I honestly think Gap should just focus on maternity, baby and body (I cannot rave enough about all the gym clothes I have from Gap).  Old Navy is actually doing a lot better with their clothing too- not all super basics anymore- and they have a pretty decent maternity section as well.

PinkBlush has also been stalking me with ads since I started coming to TheBump, BabyCenter, ect.  So I'll probably check them out in a few months too.  I also know that Loft has a maternity section online- but have never seen it in store.

  • Shoooot. By the time I get that big I throw a blazer over my yoga pants and call it good! I double dog dare someone at work to say something about it!

Also, just personal preference, I don't care for the maternity pants that have the thick elastic band, I like the ones with full belly coverage much better.
  • I wish I could get away with wearing leggings here! We have a strict no leggings dress code! I will be wearing them when I'm working from home though!!
  • Loft maternity for sure.

I have found J.C. Penney to have the most affordable maternity clothes, since they tend to have coupon codes and promotions going on all the time; however, I have found mostly jeans and casual pants so far, they don't seem to have a lot of dress pants at the moment. I'm hoping they add some soon.

ETA: Just checked Penney's and they actually do have some dress pants right now.

I ordered some from Zulily for $13 a pair and put them on one morning and thankfully before I left the house, I bent down to get something and felt something weird, come to find a huge hole right in the crotch! Glad I avoided that embarrassment!

  • Has anyone tried those work/yoga pants that seem to be all over my fb ads? I was wondering if those would be a good in betweener.

  • Im a nurse and I love the tafford scrub pants.
  • UGH I have been dreading this. Last time I was pregnant I worked in a building where we could wear jeans and I totally took advantage and rocked maternity jeans most days. Now I need to wear "real" work pants the 3 days/week I'm in the office and hate the ones I bought last time to get by. I've heard good things about Loft but apparently they don't carry in stores. The Gap near my house doesn't have a maternity section but I may order some online then return what doesn't work. Let me know how Pink Blush is if anyone gets pants from there!
  • Motherhood maternity has a lot of options too!
