Mine is definitely going to be an UO but I can't get with the daily symptoms thread. Maybe it's because not much changes in a single day for me symptoms/rave wise and changing how far along I am by one day just seems silly to me.
For you ladies who do it, I'm not ragging on you. I couldn't care less if you participate. To each their own. I will probably only join in once a week though.

I can see where you're coming from. Really it was started to try and redirect some of the daily questions that get asked about symptoms and consolidate them into one thread. I don't do it so much as to talk about symptoms as I do to get to know people I guess. I like to include the Rants/Raves and GTKY questions because people get to share things unrelated to pregnancy. I get where you're coming from though :)

I definitely like the gtky aspect of it to shake things up a bit.

Yes!! We got a little "no soliciting" sign and put it on our screen door. No problems since! They were getting really bad too and my dog goes crazy. No, I do NOT need a f*cking estimate on my roof or windows!!

Get a little sign if you can. I think we got one on Amazon for like 2 bucks and it's just a small sticker, but it works! DH just told me today that he had the door open (so our dog can look out while he works from home) and he was eating lunch in the kitchen, saw a guy walk up to the door, and then immediately turn around and leave. :)

I get what you're saying, I do. I wish I COULD wear all the cute flats out there. But I have plantar faciitis, so I'm stuck with Chacos, Birks, or the dreaded sneaker with expensive-as-f*ck orthotic inserts. I'd love to be rocking some cute Tieks, though.

Sadness! I love my mizunos! Plus flats don't hold up to dirt or country walking very well. Sneakers or boots are a smarter choice to keep you ankles from being twisted!
  • My UO (I'll probably get flamed, I realize, sorry): I think the wedding announcements/save the dates/pregnancy announcements involving pets is so corny. I love my dogs but I wouldn't put them in an announcement like that. It's just weird. My little sister had her freaking farret in her engagement photos. It had a sign saying something like my parents are engaged or something. Dumbest thing ever in my unpopular opinion.

ETA: the tail of my parenthesis.

Agree!!!!! It's been done to death and I still don't get it.

I'll expand on that thought and say I think treating pets like people is ridiculous. My neighbor went out when she was expecting her first and bought a new car... because she was worried she wouldn't be able to take her dogs to the grocery store with the car seat taking up so much space and the dogs would be sad.

I know it's a little early for this but wtf are people thinking with maternity shirts with horizontal stripes? I was doing some browsing online and it seems like every other top has them. They don't even look good on the size zero model, why would they look good on anyone else?
I wondered the same thing myself. The only reasoning I could come up with is that horizontal stripes make you look wide, but people expect you to be wide when you're pregnant, so they figure if you're wide already just go with it? Like, just own it while you can? I don't know, the reasoning sounds weak even as I type it, lol.
  • My UO...I am perplexed by people's love for Disney world. I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I've been to DW, and it was just an overpriced tourist trap. My co-workers go like every 4 years, and they are in their 50s, and they are all, just wait, you'll be so excited when you get to bring your little one and see their joy, and I'm all, no. I won't. Sorrynotsorry.

Same here. We agreed to bring our kids once to Disney World.

We were just on a vacation at an iconic national park and while hiking I hear....this is why I just love Disney World, they can recreate this stuff.
HOW ABOUT YOU SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF THIS WORLD AND NOT WISH YOU WERE IN A FAKE REALITY.

I really wanted to push her off the cliff, but I decided not to. :)

Yes! I don't get adults that go to Disney with no children. I have several friends like this. It is expensive as f**ck, and if I'm on a kid free vacay there will be a beach and a frozen drink, not a bunch of people in costume thankyouverymuch.

Totally agreed! DH kept talking about how he wanted to go to Disney before we had kids to do the "no kids" experience. At $100+ per person per day just to get into the park, then add in hotel, food, airfare etc, no thank you! I'd rather save up that money to bring my kids there, or really on any vacation. With those prices you can go to a whole lot of places.

I love Disney, but even I only plan on taking our kids MAYBE twice.  DH and I went to Disneyland (that's where we got engaged) because he'd never been to either Disney, but we lived in AZ at the time and had hotel points from work travel... so free hotel, quick drive, and we only stayed for 2 days.  So it was cheap(-ish).  I won't take a kid until they are old enough to appreciate it all and understand it, so we'll probably wait until all kids are 5+... and go once.  Too much money and I'd rather stay home and just watch the movies in my sweats!

I'm not going to flame you, but I'll be the one to disagree :) We treat our dog like family, so she is usually part of our family pictures. Then again, I'm also biased because I think dogs are the only animal where it's acceptable to include them in any sort of family photo. Ferrets, cats, or anything else is just weird IMO. So I'm a hypocrite on this topic. Sorrynotsorry.
I'm totally a hypocrite on this one too. Our dog is part of our family and we treat her as such. I've been brainstorming some pregnancy announcement ideas and several of my favorites would include her. BUT, I think it's weird for other animals to be in these kinds of pictures.

  • Tagging onto the facebook post trend, (I have a feeling this will be more unpopular here) I don't see the point of a big pregnancy announcement on facebook.  People we care to tell we can tell in person, or give them a call or shoot them an email.  If they aren't important enough to share the news with directly, I don't see the point in telling them at all because, frankly, I doubt that they give a damn.  At that point, it's just seems to be bragging to all of your old friends who you don't talk to anymore.

I like common core.  As a mathematician I think it teaches the basics way better than had been done before.  I'll be curious if I still like it when my kids are in school, but I suspect I will.  I am ridiculously happy in my marriage, but don't post lovey dovey facebook posts.  We do posts funny conversations.  Maybe that's annoying?  That's what the hide button is for.  I exclusively wear jeans and sneakers 340+ days of the year.  That might be too much, if I have a pedicure I'll do flip flops.

My husband wanted to post the profile anatomy scan picture when that point comes around.  I had a really rough day last week and was super hormonal and basically broke down sobbing and said no way in hell are we doing that, I don't wanna and we aren't letting my mom or your mom do one about being a grandma until we do one which isn't happening so they aren't doing it.  As of now, he seems to be on board with me.  Pregnancy hormone win?  Maybe?

Like distribution of our intestines is what creates validity? • Ladies worked up about common core- I teach kindergarten. Your kids will be fine since they will get it from the start. It's the poor 4th and 7th grade kids who haven't been taught that way that are confused, plus the publishers pushed out some god awful textbooks just to earn money. We spent a lot of time making suggestions to our publisher and they actually changed some things for this year.

My dogs are family. I think announcement pics with pets are cute, and there's not that many ways to announce a pregnancy in a picture. I feel that way about a big brother shirt- like you couldn't be bothered there'd to do the fancy thing with the second, but whatever. It's still cute.

A UO not discussed today- leggings are totally pants. As long as you can't see through them.

My kids have been taught CC since K (DD is only in 2nd grade) and we only do the math portion here. Once it was actually explained to me, I really like it. It's the way I do math in my head, without realizing it.

Also, leggings aren't pants.....unless you're under the age of 6. I don't want to see all your lady bits and such.

My problem with CC is not that it's too complicated or that I'm concerned my child won't learn it. My problem is that it teaches kids there is one right way to arrive at the correct answer. I could go on, but as I'm sure my opinions are in the minority I will leave it there.

I'm in the leggings aren't pants camp. If I can see the outline of your butt folds, it's inappropriate for anywhere except yoga class

It's not just Common Core that has me worried, though I am concerned that we are way over-complicating things. But I am anxious about major curriculum changes that have not actually improved outcomes + excessive testing that, again, has not made our kids any smarter + homework overload that cuts into important down time, +++. I may be overly worried because I teach university students (albeit not math) and every year find myself alarmed with the base knowledge with which my freshman arrive. And things seem to have gotten worse with the introduction and expansion of programs such as Common Core and layers of standardized testing. But perhaps that's because we haven't gotten any students who have grown up in this system from kindergarten? I don't know ... I remain very skeptical.

    Edit: words
  • I think leggings can be pants if thick. And not worn to work. Leggings are never pants at work. Ever. No exceptions. Also - No camel toes allowed.

  • I'm also on the hypocrite train. Our dog is definitely in our pictures. We didn't do engagement pictures (I didn't see the point in taking a million pictures in regular clothes for a bunch of money...guess I found my UO) but we did a pregnancy announcement photo (BIL took it) where he was sitting in front of DH and I while we were making a heart in front of my belly. Our parents (and siblings) loved it, they call him their grandpuppy. But I agree that any other animal is just weird.
  • Since we are on education, my UO is that I am totally against charter schools. I feel they take tax money that is ment to fund the public schools and the G-D GOP in NC is trying to shut down public schools. Rant over
