Multiple Mamas check in

Hi All!
I feel like we haven't had a check in in a while so here goes!

How are things progressing?
Anyone been asked any funny questions?
Increase in doctor's appointments?
Anything else?!

My fraternal twins seem to be doing great! I had an ultrasound Thursday at 28 weeks and baby girl weighed 2.10 and baby boy 2.9. I've been having fairly high blood pressure, but I think it had to do with travel this past weekend!

Someone asked me my due date, and when I said January, she said, how many are you having?! I thought that was really funny!

My doctor's appointments are going up to 3 weekly at 32 weeks. I've had two every other week and they would like to increase them. I'll have one ob check in, one nst, and one ultrasound.

The nursery is coming along well! The theme is Dr. Seuss and my sister made beautiful quilts for each baby!

Hope everyone is doing well! Rest up!

Re: Multiple Mamas check in

  • I had a. Scan today at 27 weeks. Twin A weighs 2.1 and Twin B weighs 2.4. I am measuring 39 weeks, and I definately have my moments. I am currently on appts every 3 weeks but I believe she said something about changing to every 2 at my next appt. My baby shower was last week a few ladies from work threw it for me. A few very best friends showed up, but it was mainly coworkers. Today before my scan a coworker asked me when j was going to stop coming to work cause the further I get the more tired I look. I told her I was going to try for as long as possible. However my legs have started swelling n get edema soooo I'm really not sure how long I'll be able to make it. I'm just ooberly happy to be having 2 precious little girls with me every day :)

  • Hi all,
I'm 30 weeks now. Not having a great week! I had a repeat scan yesterday following my previous useless one 2 weeks ago. Babies are growing well, 3.3 and 3.1 pounds each. The little boy still has a 2mm VSD in his heart, but it has stayed the same size and his heart is pumping well. But, my cervix has shortened to 14mm (should be 30mm) meaning babies could come any day, I am on medication and modified bed rest. I have a follow-up scan monday and if my cervix has changed I'm getting admitted to hospital. I'm terrified about babies coming early, my doctor said she's hoping we can keep them in until the end of Nov. I cry every time I think about the tiny babies in NICU with tubes going everywhere. The babies are currently in breech and transverse so I'm likely to have a cesarean. Praying that babies stay in as long as possible!!
  • I think my OB is fairly cautious because I had cholestasis with my last pregnancy, but I've been going every 2 weeks since 24 weeks. She says as long as my liver function tests look good and I'm not itching I can stay at 2 weeks until later. It's good to get to see the babies that often, but the cervical ultrasounds get old :)

Babies are moving a ton. Sleep is getting hard because laying on my side hurts after just a little while. I am so happy to be going through this at this time of year. My boys are happily enjoying Halloween and then the other holidays, so everything seems to be speeding along. My littlest hugs and kisses the babies at least 15 times a day lol.

My biggest fear is them coming too early--I have dreams about it. Luckily, all of us are getting past the weeks when the problems are the highest. I will be 28 weeks Monday--luckily complications if they are born early start dropping much more after that milestone.

Hope everyone else is doing as well as possible!
  • I am coming up on 27 weeks. Jealous of everyone farther along, as I consider every week an accomplishment ticked off when these babies stay put and grow stronger. I have my next appointment a week from tomorrow. My hope is that they are each 3 lbs by then.

@emmalc16 I'm sorry to hear you're on bed rest! Is your cervix measured at every appointment? Had it shortened at all prior to this?

I had my baby shower Sunday and the nursery is coming together so feeling good getting ready for these kiddos. Hope you all stay healthy and happy til our next check in!

  • @emmalc16 Here's hoping those babies stay in there as long as possible! Stay strong! :)

I'm coming up on 30 weeks in a few days (holy crap!). I had been seeing a midwife up until a couple weeks ago and then I switched to an OB - standard procedure around here. I still see my midwife occasionally for check ins and she'll be there for the birth which I'm happy about! I'm up to biweekly OB appointments, and ultrasounds every 4 weeks to just check growth - apparently standard for my OB.

I've been unofficially diagnosed with PUPPS, which sucks huge but I'm relieved it's something that's not harmful to me or the babies. And my hips get so sore these days just from walking around getting groceries! I'm so glad I'm not working anymore. I couldn't imagine trying to be up and down for a 12h shift.

And this evening we brought our new minivan home! I actually cried when we left the dealership because I traded in my old clunker that I've had for 8 years - my first car! I hated the thing, I couldn't even drive it the past couple weeks but it just looked so lonely sitting there as we drove away in our shiny new minivan... But now we've got the room for our twin car seats and stroller and all the gear that comes with two babies! :)
  • Thanks for the well wishes ladies! I can't say I'm being very strong, lots of tears!!

@happyandhopeful3 my cervix was measured at 20 weeks and it was 37mm. At my ultrasound 2 weeks ago the lady didn't even measure it. Very thankful I decided to go for another scan!
  • @emmalc16 you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry I haven't posted and multiples check in. I don't go on this site that often anymore. I'm not too fond of a lot or people in this group but I do enjoy our check ins.

I'm 28 weeks 4 days. I've been scheduled for a c section 12/28 and hoping my last day of work will be thanksgiving eve which is 4 weeks prior. HR is looking into seeing if that would count as paid disability leave being that my actual due date isn't until 1/16. Either way I can't see myself working in Dec. I'm too exhausted with this commute and can't do it much longer.
Plus I'm looking for a house. Not to buy but to rent. My husband gets back mid Dec so I'm looking for a house to move into before he gets back. Grad school, work, my commute and house hunting leaves me with zero energy! I'm so over everything. Well, not the pregnancy. I love being pregnant! !! Love love it!

My next OB appt isn't until 11/17. They are still a month apart and at the last one she couldn't tell me their weight. I was measuring 3 weeks ahead.

I meet with the high risk specialist again next week who will hopefully tell me good news about our little girl. Keep praying

Thanks. Here's my bump from today.

  • I'm thinking about everybody in our multiples club and praying that all our babies stay put as long as possible!
  • Mt practice measures the cervix and checks for fibronectin every other week in twin pregnancies starting at 24 weeks through 32 weeks.
  • @nanaamp that's good to know. I am going to inquire about both at my appointment next week. Sometimes I feel like I am getting the bare minimum treatment but can't tell if I am just expecting too much. So I appreciate this touch stone of what other people are experiencing.

  • @emmalc16 thinking of you! My cervix has also shortened and is 1.7cm now. A months ago it was 3.5cm. I have a cerclage in though, and no funneling. I am on bedrest now too, at 27w2d.
Hope we can keep these babies in a while longer.
@Theliops congrats on the minivan! Starting to feel real, multiples are on the way.
@keshakdavis glad to see your update! You look amazing too!

I don't check in often on the multiples check in- not too much going on really, except recently with the bedrest. My triplets each weigh about 2lbs now. I failed the glucose test (by 4pts) and have to go back for 3h. The office is accommodating and will put me in a room to lay down while I have to be there. Honestly I don't see the point since I won't be pregnant much longer anyway.
My perinatologist's goal is 28w, but I would love to make it to 30w at least. We are almost to his goal though!
I am working from home so that keeps me from being too bored in bed.

Two years, two losses and three IUIs...

    We are having TRIPLETS!

    EDD 1/26/16

     GGB born November 2015!

  • @Kelley421 I'm praying your triplets stay put for as long as possible! I don't have a cerlage or funneling. I'm just on progesterone pessels at the moment. Feeling a bit more positive today, every day these little ones stay in is a bonus!
  • @Kelley421 Keep us updated on those triplets! Sending good thoughts and hoping all goes smoothly!

@happyandhopeful3 Where I am, and in my situation they only check my cervical length at ultrasounds. So currently just every four weeks. They tell me I'm still "low risk" even though I'm carrying twins, and I totally understand feeling like you're getting the bare minimum!
  • I didn't realize the cervical measurements could change so quickly with no symptoms. I won't be saying they are a pain to go through anymore. I wish all of you luck and will be hoping our babies stay cooking as long as possible!
  • How did you know you had a shortened cervix? When is this checked?

  • @keshakdavis Mine was checked during the anatomy ultrasounds with an internal ultrasound, so at weeks 12, 20 and 30. The 28 week scan I had at the crappy place didn't check it so very happy that I went for the repeat scan at 30 weeks. My cervix was fine at weeks 12 and 20. So somewhere between 20 and 30 weeks it has more than halved in size.
  • Things are progressing well here! I had my 30 week growth scan this week and the boys are measuring 3lbs 10 oz and 3 lbs 8 oz, so everyone is happy with that. I go in for a routine dr appt in 2 weeks and then start going every week for biophysical profiles (nst at the hospital and ultrasound at the dr office), going early for that mainly because I have gestational diabetes and they want to keep a closer eye on the little guys as a precaution.

The nursery is finally coming along and I've gotten around to washing the newborn clothes this week. I have a baby shower this weekend too, which I am nervous and excited about (I don't love being the center of attention).

  • My practice starts doing weekly biophysical profiles every week starting around 32 weeks. Until then, cervix is measured and a swab is done every other week. They stop focusing on the cervix at 32 weeks. All of this is simply because I am pregnant with twins and this is how they handle it. It doesn't have anything to do with anything else.
  • @emmalc16 : I'm in the same position as you. My cervix is now 25mm and I'm approaching 29 weeks on Monday. I was hospitalized for 3 days this past week and was sent home on bed rest for 22 hours daily. In the hospital I was given two steroid shots to help the babies lungs to develop faster should delivery be sooner than expected. Did your doctor do that for you? I also had a cerlage installed to hold my cervix together.

My babies are both turned down already with their heads and doctors are hoping I can stay put until The end of November. My birthday is also end of November so who knows we might all share a birthday but I'd of course rather them stay put past November. Their heartbeats are good and all looks fine with them. I would just like them to get a bit bigger and stronger so they don't have to stay in the NICU too long. Every hour everyday is indeed a milestone. I've never loved Monday's so much yet until now as my babies grow a week older every Monday.

My family and friends are praying a lot for my little buns to keep baking til the end of Nov and I'm asking you all to also keep me in your prayers. As mothers of twins and triplets we are surely in a special club and only us know the trials and aches we face both physically and emotionally. Even our husbands don't fully understand. We just can't explain it sometimes.

Keep strong all! Sending prayers up for all of us and our babies in this group!
  • I'll be 28w Tuesday. this coming week is my last monthly appointment; then I go bi weekly to the OB. I see the MFM for growth and cervix length every 3 weeks. Now and I think start BPP at 33 (last growth is 32). So far so good, knock on wood.

  • @Aminafleming I will keep you and your little ones in my prayers.

I have my next anatomy scan is Tuesday and I am excited and nervous at the same time. I'll get to see how the babies are growing and whether or not my little girls cyst has grown. Prayers that it hasn't. My next appt with my OBGYN isn't until the 17th and I'll be 31 weeks by then so I'm sure after that I'll start having bi-weekly appointments.

  • I had a follow up scan Monday, my cervix is the same size thank God! I'm just staying on stricter bed rest and having a repeat scan next Monday.

@Aminafleming I haven't had steroid injections yet, my Dr wants to optimise the timing of them to give the biggest benefit to babies. The Dr at the ultrasound place mentioned the cerlage today, but I will see what my OB says on Monday. I think because I'm now 31 weeks along they probably won't do a cerlage.

@keshakdavis keeping you and your little girl in my prayers.
  • @keshakdavis : Do let us knowing how your little girl is doing after Tuesday's scan. Praying for good news.
  • @keshakdavis- that is such great news!

Have any of you experienced abdominal soreness? I woke up this morning with SUCH a sore belly.  It was painful getting dressed for work.  It is mainly in my upper abdomen, but I it's kind of all over. Just very tender/uncomfortable like I am bruised/tore a bunch of muscles.

I called the doctor and they said I am okay to monitor it today until my appointment tomorrow morning. I just wanted to check to see if this could possibly be a multiples thing?

    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • @Aminafleming I had my appt today and the mass has shrunk!! Thank God! They will still want to eventually remove it but as of now it's not causing any problems at all. She's 2.5 lbs and her brother is 2 lbs 13 Oz. She's still breech but perfectly healthy. I couldn't be happier. It's been a stressful 9 weeks since we first learned of her abnormality.

    Such great news!
  • @happyandhopeful3 --could you maybe have injured yourself and not realized it? I know my abs are stretched to the max right now and even turning over in bed can be hard. I've had intermittent pain, but not like you're describing. Hopefully just some minor muscle soreness!
    @keshakdavis --that's awesome news!
  • Had my doc appointment today and I guess these babies were tired of their sleeping arrangements, as baby girl (baby A) turned and is now breech, and baby boy (B) is now transverse under my ribs.....which explains my sudden onset of discomfort.  So at least I know why now.  I am scheduling a C section this week as my doctor thinks it's better to get one on the calendar and then change plans when/if it it's needed. Both babies are 3 lbs and doing great!

    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • @happyandhopeful3 my babies are sitting the same way, except girl up top and boy down the bottom. I was in a lot of pain when they first moved there, but now the girl is quite happy under my ribs, but the boy's kicks are so painful!!
  • @emmalc16 ha! How funny they all found the same positions. Hoping they ease up on both of us pain wise though ;-)

    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • I had my scan yesterday and my cervix is now 5mm so I'm in hospital on bed rest. I got my first steriod injection and will have the second one today. No other symptoms as of yet so hopefully I can hold on a few more weeks! I'm 32w1d, every day further is a blessing!! Babies are still in breech and transverse so likely to have a cesarean.
We're hopefully going to be seen by a neonatal Dr to just get a better idea of what to expect and progresss week to week. Babies weigh 1.7kg (3.7pounds) each now and were within 10g of each other which is great!
  • @emmalc16 so sorry to hear that! Are you in the hospital until you deliver or do you hope to leave? Each day is a victory- thinking of you!

    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • I'll be in hospital until I deliver which is the best place for me I think. I asked my OB this morning what's likely to happen next if my water will break etc. She said that I could go into labour or the babies sacks could decend into my vagina and the membrane may rupture but I could still sit here with babies like that just on antibiotics. So many crazy things I never knew could happen! I will just have to wait and see!
  • My water broke last week, and while it sucks to be in hospital, @emmalc16 you're right about it being the best place. I feel like my babies are safe here! Good luck will be thinking of you!
  • @JDBtwinmama are you still just waiting in hospital? How long do they expect to be able to keep babies in for? Thank you, will be thinking of you too!! These twins are tricky business!!

@emmalc16 because my water broke they won't let me go past 34 weeks. But there are some things they're constantly looking for which would mean an emergency c-section. If I have a prolapsed cord, my blood pressure spikes and stays high, my placenta detaches (either one, but more likely my baby with the broken water) or if me or the babies get an infection. They wouldn't give me exact numbers on the likelihood I'll make it to 34 weeks, but they do keep saying every single day is a victory. There's also a chance I just go into labor because my water broke! Either way they are confident babies and I will be ok, even if it does mean nicu time, which makes me feel much better!

Eta I do have to stay in hospital until they are born because I'm being constantly monitored for all of those issues!
  • Thinking of you guys! I hope all goes well for you and babies!
  • @JDBtwinmama it's so hard with all these unknown factors! We're in good hands so I'm sure babies will be healthy even though spending some time in NICU.
    Thinking of you!
