Mylicon gas drops are great. Maybe some yogurt or probiotics? Try cycling his legs while he's laying down and giving him a tummy massage. That usually helps. If he's constipated, using a rectal thermometer does wonders to get things moving.
Do you have a first nurse line in your area? They would have a good list of symptoms to go through to be sure it's just has before actually going to a doctor (especially during flu season). That said, if it's both hard and painful (cries when you gently press on it) I would call the ped. to rule out intussusception.
