Bathing baby

How's everyone bathing baby these days? I have the 4 moms infant tub and it's just getting too small! Lo loves baths and the water so I'm looking for something he can be more immersed in and splash around in! My mom keeps telling me to just put him in the sink but the thought of all the germs... Ick no way!

Re: Bathing baby

  • We use the summer infant tub and lo is starting to be too big for it and I don't know what we'll do after that. LO used to love a bath and hasn't been a fan the past month or so.

I have washed LO in the sink at my moms and it didn't worry about germs because I washed the sink out before filling with water and sitting LO in it.

  • I'm glad you posted this! We're running into the same problem. Most nights my husband takes LO into the bath with him. LO LOVES going in the tub with his dad, but I'm still to scared to try it myself, so when DH is not home we use a baby tub or this floating pillow like pad, both he's outgrown.
  • Still liking this. But as she gets more mobile and more exploratory, she tries to slide into the water. :-O

We've been using the lay down part of this tub with a hand to we under her for traction and she loves it. I'm assuming in the next two months as she learns to sit up well use the other end where she can do that. I would put her in our tub as she learns to sit up but we have a jacuzzi tub so it's hard to kneel and reach into unless your in the tub with her. A pro and con to this tub is it's size- were getting probably about 7 months use out of it but it doesn't collapse so you'll need a place to store it!
  • We just use the regular tub, with a towel folded under his head (easier than keeping my hand under his head the whole time, which I had been doing). He loves it, and actually scoots around, from moving his legs so much. Splashing and moving himself around make him giggle - and nice and tired for bed!

Oooh, I like the towel pillow idea. I did the big tub for the first time the other night (sink before that), and babe just laid there in about an inch of water. And LOVED it.

  • I've used the blooming bath since day one, large spongy flower he lays on and gets to kick all around. I love it!
  • We used the sink until a month ago now she just takes a bath with me I got some light up rubber duckies that float around that she is in entranced with, pretty easy the baby tub never really worked for us but maybe when she can sit up in it we will give it another go. She does love bath time though.
  • @foxa319 the 4moms tub is getting way too small for us too. But I love being able to bring clean water in and rinse out the soapy water. I just wish they made it bigger.

I used the blooming bath in the sink, which the babes just outgrew. I hadn't really thought of using it in the tub.

  • I laid baby in the regular tub tonight like a few ppl had suggested with a fluffy towel under him and he loved it! Kicked and splashed like crazy! Thanks for the ideas ladies!
  • @queequeg09256 Where did you get those? DS and I might fight over those.
  • My guy is huge and still loving the Fischer price "whale of a tub"
  • Moving to the sink when LO can sit up more on her own....for now we're awkwardly stuck in the baby tub.
  • Does anyone else bathe their LO everyday? I have to because she spits up a lot and it usually gets all in her hair. She will also smell like it all day and I just can't do it. I use a very mild soap on her and it seems to be fine. I see no signs of skin irritation.
  • I give her a bath less frequently than I'd like to admit. She doesn't get dirty and rarely spits up.

I gave her one in the tub today using the suggestion of a rolled up towel. She loved it but I feel like the water cools so easily? I know I can just put a little more and drain out but that takes forever. Quick baths it is.

I was and gave LO a nice case of eczema :( mom fail. Now I just soak in water nightly and use soap twice a week.

My MIL bought a bath seat. It holds LO up right and its wonderful. It looks 25 years old and has probably been deemed unsafe but it's great...maybe I should look it up :-?

We actually have one of these, too, from DD! I should switch to that....I bought it from like Korea or something, lol. Guess the US stopped marketing them.
@ahall0358, I bathe LO twice a week. Partly because I'm lazy, partly because she's not dirty, and partly because I read some articles about the benefits of not bathing babies too often.
  • @ahall0358 we also only bathe LO twice a week. I do use a wet washcloth on his face, on his neck (especially in his neck rolls), and his hands every night as part of his bedtime routine tho. That's usually where he gets yucky from either spit up or eating his hands. You could probably do the same and kind of scrub her hair with it so you don't have to bathe every day.

We bathe LO twice a week too, with daily wipe downs of her hands and neck folds.

She still has dry skin though. I tried Aveeno unscented and she got a rash. Have you guys found good lotions?

We do a bath every night. LO spits up a lot and he's at Grandmas all day, she has a cat and I think the old milk plus likelihood he has a dirty fistful of cat hair is gross. We use the purple calming baby soap, "Magic Bath" or some brand and then lotion him up with the purple calming baby lotion and he is just delish. No dry skin issues to date.

Love the blooming bath cause it stopped him from sliding around but damn that thing is a pain to wring out and attempt to dry.
  • @hoodoll82 I tried using some Burt's Bee's lotion, but thought it was too thick for my taste to use on a baby. No problems with a rash, tho, and worked on the dry spots, but I felt like I was rubbing it in for longer than LO had patience for. So I switched to the babyganics lotion, its not quite as thick and still does a good job, still no rashes here. My dude does have what appears to be eczema along his eyebrow line, I've been using baby eucerin eczema relief lotion there and it does ok. I also put just a smidge on his cheeks because they just don't feel supple because of the drool drying them out. This is after I use the washcloth on his face, of course.

  • Seriously tho, @queequeg09256 - what is the story on the light up rubber duckies!!???!

  • We use noodle and boo bath shampoo and lotion....... It smells delicious!
  • I've been slathering LO up with aquaphor every night.
  • We bathe LO every night! He loves it and I feel it really helps him know that bedtime is coming! Put Johnsen & Johnsen nighttime bath in the water as its filling and then wash with ceraVe body wash and lotion. No skin problems here! When he was a newborn we couldn't use anything but the ceraVe bc he broke out!
  • Awesome! Glad there isn't any skin problems! Wish I could bathe every day! I'd be super excited! *-:)

  • @klkonwi What is noodle & boo?! Where do you find it?
  • I like Earth Mama Angel Baby foaming bath soap/shampoo and lotion.  Orange Vanilla smell is very nice and not too strong.
  • Noodle and boo is the most amazing smelling/ nice baby soap. We got ours from buy buy baby. I think bru has it or amazon?

We use the two in one shampoo and soap but the lotion is the best too!
(This stuff is more expensive than Johnson and Johnson but so worth it!)
  • We bathe every night because between drool, dog hair, my hair and whatever else they decided to grab that day is all over them. We use Johnson and Johnson night time soap and lotion. The pediatrican was suprised the girls skin wasn't drying out from a daily bath. I'll continue to do it unless their skin gets really dry.

I want to try this! I can't get myself to buy new stuff when I was gifted a ton from my showers.
  • The burts bees baby shampoo is very drying to my LO. I switched for a couple nights and went back to Johnson and Johnson.
  • I can't wait to try this noodle & boo! We have so much from my shower that I need to use before buying anything else. We use the fancy Von Maur stuff for special occasions. That stuff smells fabulous!

Still only washing her a couple times a week. I have super sensitive skin and I'm hoping that I can help her skin by not bathing too often, plus I'm lazy.
  • I give her a bath every night just because it's part of the bedtime routine and she loves it. I use Aveeno soap/shampoo every other night. She did get some eczema on her legs, but we've been using Aveeno eczema lotion and that seems to help.
