Talk to your pediatrician, but I would guess yes. Baby skin is super sensitive in general and then some babies more than others. We only washed DD with (baby) soap every few days (or if she blew out) for the first 6 months because her skin got so dry - and she hasn't had skin problems with anything.
Also, you'll have a pediatrician see your baby in the hospital - that would be a good time to ask if you haven't looked into peds yet. Or you could call a local office and ask one of the nurses if you want to know sooner.
Their skin is REALLY sensitive. I don't know anything about homemade lye soap... but I got tons of Burt's Bees stuff from our registry and it gave my son a rash. We had to switch to Aveeno. Also, if we used any sort of different detergent besides free and clear, he broke out. In the beginning we didn't even use real wipes, just wet cloths.
