I'm Gwendolyn Wrae '83 My mom came up with my first name and my middle name is from my mom's mother who is Thelma Wrae.
I use to want my name to be Samantha when I was younger, I don't know why because it's just as long. But pretty much since Kindergarten I've been Gwen. Now that I'm older I appreciate my name but still just go by Gwen because it's simple though when I introduce myself it get's confused for "Glenn" or "Quinn".
I'm Kristine Diane ('84) If my mom had her way I would either be Amberlee or Crystalee. My dad saved me. Diane is a family name. My mom decided a k was more creative. I went by Kris most of my life. I was always one of a few Kristines/Christine's and I never really cared.
Katelyn Jean. My teenage parents loved the name Katie but decided to go with putting Katelyn on the birth certificate so it was longer. Lol. I went by Katelyn through out school though because there was at least 2 other Katie's and a Kaylee in my class every year. As I grew up people shortened it how they wanted since I introduce myself as Katelyn. Kate. Katie. Kay. The Jean though I have always hated. It's after my dads mom, who I would gladly not claim as my grandma. And I just think it sounds trailer park-ish. After the falling out with my grandma though my mom and dad both admitted to hating "Jean" but feeling like they were obligated.
I'm sorry for you @ Corey Akexander. Good for us to think about when naming a kid. It sounds like a football player. But I'm probably thinking of Shaun Alexander.
Jill Marie ('77). I really like my name. My mom wanted to name me something cutesy and girly and my dad refused. He even put my foot down when my mom wanted to name me Jillian. There were 4 other Jills in my class--all trouble-makers and all Jillians. I was glad to be "Just Jill." It was a bit of a bummer to not have a nickname, but I've actually had more than a dozen nicknames because friends have just gotten creative. I was also a bit of a tomboy and now am a lawyer. I'm really glad to have a strong, classic name. (Although, I did have one boss that EVERY day I showed up for work for 4 years, he would say "Hey Jill, where's Jack?" Dick.)
Amanda rose of '87. Way too many of us. I even had a dance class as a kid with a girl who had the same first and last name as me. I don't hate my name it was just crazy common. Because of it I wouldn't pick a name from the top 10 for my own kids. It sucks to have your last names initial permanently attached to your name. Something to think about for all the Olivia and Charlotte lovers. Nice names but common.
I'm a Lesley (from the 80s). I was pretty much always the only Lesley anywhere, and definitely the only one with it spelled that way. I have a few issues with my name. 1. I'm named after my great grandfather Leslie. Really parents? Let's name our daughter after a man, good thinking. No women in my family worth naming me after? 2nd, I actually do like the way my name is spelled, but it's uncommon and everyone gets it wrong. When I was little I could never find anything with my name on it. And 3rd, is just personal preference, but I would have always preferred having a girl-only name, not one that 'goes both ways.' I'm pretty stuck on making sure my daughter (due in March) has a feminine name, although I feel like the times have changed a LOT as far as girls using boys names, much more common now. I love reading everyones opinions! So interesting to see the other side of having a 'popular' girl name from the 80s.
Chloe Grace My mom was either going to name me Chloe Grace or Alexis Joanne . I'm happy with her decision. I actually love my name. If it weren't mine I would probably use it for a daughter..

Ivey is a family name and was originally a last name. It's pretty common in the south to use a last name for a first name. IDK if it's common to do that anywhere else?
Joanna is after my grandmother and my uncle.
I did not like Ivey growing up because kids are mean. I was always called 'Poison Ivy'. It was so bad that at one point my mom had to sit down with my brother and tell him to stop calling me that because i was teased at school and shouldn't be teased at home. I think it's very pretty now tho and i'm stronger for it. Mostly from skeevy old men I get asked if i'm poisonous and i respond with 'Only when i'm Angry'
I love it now tho. My maiden name is beautiful (see user name) and i hate that i had to move it to the middle once i got married. yes i know i didnt 'have to' but i want my family to have the same name. I took a hit on my personal brand when i got married. I now have a difficult to pronounce scottish name!! It starts with McE- but it's pronounced Mac <sigh>

I like it
I get comments on the hurricane all the time and most people can't pronounce my middle name (Omas name)
