Third trimester amniocentesis

Anyone had a third trimester amniocentesis? What can I expect? Doc found two mild markers and wants to test for downs and cystic fibrosis.

Hey there,
Personally I have not heard of doing an amnio in the 3rd trimester. I was taught that it has to be done in like the early 20's (week count wise ), but that may have been unique to my situation. I had an amnio in my 2nd trimester. I strongly suggest asking this question on the high risk board. You may get more feedback there. Either way, I hope that your testing comes back as your child does not have either issue. As I have said earlier, I had an amnio. I'm open to PM's if you'd like to discuss it. With my first I was offered to do an amnio because my son had a small chance of downs. I was in the third tri but declined because of the chance of miscarriage.
