yeah, i would have left the last name out. i also would have posted this on the baby name board instead. as for the name itself, i like it. i personally like the name Chance. i know a couple guys named Chance & i dont see anything wrong with it.
I like some syllable symmetry to names, so I'd prefer Tobias as the first name, then a one or two syllable middle name. You can still use the middle name as the name he's always called. Try yelling it up the stairs in a scolding way and see if it sounds right to you
I think Chance Tobias or Tobias Chance are both fine. I know several children named Chance and have never heard of them being teased about their name or anyone confusing them with the family pet. I've only heard the homeward bound reference/pet name thing on this site.
I know 2 boys named Chance. They were both incredible athletes, and extremely good looking. So I don't associate it with a pet, I associate it with our district champion wrestler. Someone will always have something negative to associate to any name. If you and your partner like it, go with it!
It's not terrible, but it's not my favorite either. Baby names are so subjective that I'm going to say as long as it's a name (which Chance is) and is spelled correctly (which Chance is) then go for it.
I am an eye roller when these kinds of names are given. It isn't the worst I have heard but it is up there with other names where I imagine the parents are young. I can't get through my kids' class newsletters without cringing.
I am inconsistent in my prejudice though... If you told me this was a family name and a way to honour some grandfather who died in a war, I would think it was symbolic of respect and tradition, and therefore wonderful

I agree with this. Every guy I have ever met named Chance was athletic and attractive. I think the Chance is fine. Tobias is nms but the two flow well together.
I normally wouldn't opine on someone's name choice, but since you specifically asked for opinions I think Chance is horrible. Trendy, will sound dated in a few years, and I don't think most professionals would relish putting a name like "Chance" on a business card. If he ends up being a country singer, I guess it will be fine.

No. Chance is awful. Sorry.
Besides, "chance" seems like a mean name for a kid. "Oh, they just had him by chance"
