I visit the dentist for a cleaning on Nov 20th. I will be 10 weeks prego. I have never been to this dentist before so they said they would like to do x-rays. I am on the fence. Would you?
No. I would not. I don't think the benefits outweighs the risks. I would wait until further along in my pregnancy or request xrays from your previous dentist to be sent over.
However, to each their own! There is plenty of literature on this one that goes both ways.
No, definitely do NOT do x-Rays. It is not worth it, it's not like you have a broken leg. The dentists can do your check-up the old fashioned way. Good luck!

They won't do them if they know you're pregnant. Sometime they'll do them later on like in the 3rd trimester if needed & with a belly shield. New recommendations support this but most dentists still don't.
My dr office says X-rays are allowed with a full abdominal shield. I also have a dentist appt coming up & will decline it just to be safe....especially in the first tri.
They will usually wait until 2nd trimester (or wait until after birth) to do a cleaning too. I would talk to your OB & Dentist about this!
I would not wait until after your pregnancy to get your teeth cleaned. Pregnancy is extremely hard on your gums. Bleeding gums is very common along with an increase of plaque.
Thanks ladies! I think I will just decline the x-rays to be on the safe side. When I made the appt with the dentist the receptionist on the phone told me I could wear two sheilds to be extra safe, or just decline the x-rays. It was up to me. I spoke with my doctor and she said as long as I wear the sheild the baby would be ok. She also said I could just decline the x-rays lol. Sooo I wasn't sure what to do! I definitely want to keep the dentist apt since it has been awhile since my last visit lol.
I had x-rays done while I was pregnant with DS#1 -- they just put two lead aprons on me, and everything was fine. So, personally, I'd do the x-rays, but I have a long history of bad dental problems!
