TTC After a Loss

WTF ? I am SOOO over this !

I had a natural miscarriage on 9/7/15 (4 weeks ago TODAY) I am STILL bleeding.

I saw my doctor a week ago and she didn't seem too concerned. I felt like it was almost over last week because it was so light, then BAM it came back with full force on Saturday night. I have contacted the doctor's office and waiting for a call back. Could this just be my period or is it still miscarriage bleeding ? I had lab work done last week and I still had HCG levels showing, but much much lower than before. I am supposed to go back this week for another blood draw.

Is anyone in the same boat as I am ? It just feels weird that the bleeding is continuing after this long.

Re: WTF ? I am SOOO over this !

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

I think it really just depends on your body and how far along you were.

Something kind of similar happened to me after a D&C. I don't remember if it was 4 weeks or not, but I had the D&C and bled for at least another week or 2 and it started to get lighter, and then one day it changed. I bled A LOT for the next 2 days and then it started to slow down again after that and finally tailed off. then 2 weeks after that I went in to my OB for a pregnancy test (the regular urine kind) and I was still getting a positive! That broke my heart because that meant that the ordeal still wasn't over, but eventually my levels went down too. I know what it's like to just want it to end, and it will eventually. Best of luck.

  • I bled for about 3 weeks after my d&e and it tapered off and stopped, then started up again.  A few days later, a retained piece of tissue came out and the bleeding stopped abruptly.

I hope this ends for you soon.  I remember how hard that was.

  • Thanks ladies for the input. The nurse called me back and said this sounds like it could be AF, which I thought was weird because I never actually have stopped bleeding. I hope it is, but like the nurse said there really is no textbook on how our bodies will react and everyone is different. I sure hope it is AF because I could use a break from all of this soon ;)

  • I bleed for 3 weeks, had a d&c, bleed for 4 weeks, stopped bleeding for 10 days then got what my dr thought was my period. 29 days later got 2nd period so confirmed it was.

  • The biggest concern with prolonged bleeding is retained tissue. Your OB's nurse may be right, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to be more proactive about things. Ideally, this would mean an u/s and a quantitative hcg level. However, if your OB's office is being very laid back, I would suggest taking an HPT today and if it is positive, take another in a week. If that one is still positive and you are still bleeding, call and insist on an u/s and hcg level specifically to check for retained tissue. If this resurgence of bleeding is truly your period, your hcg should be near zero and the bleeding should have tapered off significantly by the end of the week. Best of luck.
