Good thread idea. I've been thinking about getting one of those foam mats that are like jigsaw puzzles and interlock, but then read somewhere those are for kids around 1 year old. :-/ For some reason the people who owned this house before us didn't put padding underneath the carpet in the room that became LO's (and never mind that it's PINK carpet - who uses pink carpet?!?). So I've been looking for something to help the floor feel softer until we can afford to recarpet
Are you looking for a large playmat, @hoodoll82? I have an activity center that has a mirror in it, but its only 3 feet across (its circular). The mirror is baby face sized
@hoodoll82 I have a tummy time play mat I found at target. It was a target exclusive item for 19.99. It has a mirror, pillow to prop, and little animals that velcro on. It even has measure marks to measure baby's length.

We loooove the toy that velcros across the car seat it kept LO entertained for 5 hrs on our drive last weekend. I'll post a pic later or tomorrow !
The regular hanging toys just did not do it for him. He needed stuff he could flip and grab at and it has a mirror that flips.
We have this one, too! LO loves it. I have to hold it for him because he can't reach it when it's on the car seat handle, but it definitely helps his car hatred.
@mellymar I don't see why you can't use that mat before one year. We have friends who have used it with two babies
@hoodoll82 looking for 1 too! 4 months is typically the age for those right?!
We are at 4 months and our pedi says LO can start in one for 10 min a day because her neck and legs are very strong. I would guess it depends on the baby!
We bought LO that kick and play piano (an activity mat with a keyboard on the end and an arch of toys above). She was so excited she couldn't keep any of her limbs still and her eyes and mouth were wide open. It was pretty funny, I guess she's easy to please!

We got our twins the same one! They love it! They get so excited when we bring it out! They smile when they kick the piano and it plays music.
I must have this piano tummy time mat! Now that LO is into toys, buying them is very exciting. We just have a pretty basic play mat from babys r us with a mirror and various toys. LO loves it! I could watch him play with it all day.

I have this one too! It fits perfect in our pack n play bassinet so when I'm getting ready in the morning I just put it in there with LO and he's a happy camper. it's really for my moms house but it's nice having one upstairs too.
What the hell is wrong with my kid, man? He is not interested in toys at all. His activity mat with all the toys hanging over him he just lays there and will kick, and sometimes grab a toy, but I think that's more an accident than on purpose. He doesn't swat at them in what seems purposeful, either. I literally have to do all of the entertaining of this kid anytime he is awake. Its exhausting.

Give it a few weeks. My LOs are 17 weeks, and today was the first time they gave a shit about the mat.
And they have just started more purposefully grabbing at things.
Thanks @423ang I was hoping this was another case of me having a late June baby and comparing to early June babies again. Such a pitfall of mine. Hopefully he will like some toys soon, it will be fun to actually play with him. Right now its just a lot of me talking and singing to him, which is fine, but I run out of things to say and do.
@mellymar your kid isn't weird. The neighbor is the one that has the piano mat ..... We have an owl one and he just stares at it..... I swear he just doesn't like it. But the neighbors playmat he loves..... Kids are weird.......
My girls just hit 20weeks and they aren't reaching for toys either. They loveeee using their feet to kick the toys on their playmat, but as far as hands go they aren't into it yet. If I put a toy in hand, they love it, but otherwise they don't care to reach for one themselves yet
@mellymar try using a boppy pillow to set l/o on so that he is closer to the toys and has better control of his arms ( advice given to us by her developmental therapist) dd always loved her toys but she has better grasp when on it.
@mellymar my LO also seems to have no real interest in toys yet and I think we are pretty close in birth dates-I was 6/27. He just kicks and bats while looking at the toys above him but nothing purposeful and not for too long.
@rklinge0 good idea. I try to alternate using the prop pillow and not using it, but once you said that I realized he usually does seem to at least spend more time looking at the toys
@mellymar it took all my restraint not to buy it just for the photo op in my mind... LO on hers, next to the cat on his.... But who am I kidding, the cat will NEVER get that close to LO!
Hey ladies! Sorry for the lack of activity. The Bump, in it's infinite ability to be a terrible app, lost my saved password on my phone and so I can't log in. (So right now I am only getting on here when I'm physically at my computer, which is, like, NEVER). The password reset option didn't work, because.... it's The Bump. Womp womp.
Anyway, I digress.
We FINALLY bought our crib this weekend, the Sorelle Vista at BRU. Now we need a mattress. Any recommendations? I know it needs to be firm! I am leaning toward the "Safety 1st Heavenly Dreams". What have you guys bought?
@hoodoll82, I bought Moonlight Slumber Little Dreamer Dual Firmness All Foam Crib Mattress from Amazon. One side is for while they are an infant (more firm) and the other for when they are older.
@hoodoll82 we have the "my first memory foam mattress" from overstock. I wish I could crawl in there and sleep on it. LO naps and sleeps on it like a dream. It had a little bit of an odor out of the package but since then has been fine.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
@hoodoll82 we have the same crib I got a sealy mattress from bru to go with it, i don't remember the name but it has a green leafy print on it. It wasn't the cheapest, or the most expensive... Middle of the road and so far I have no complaints. LO seems to love it.
You all inspired me to get LO a new mattress. She was using a hand-me-down that was saggy in the middle so she kept rolling and waking up. Well, we got this. As soon as we put LO on it she broke into the biggest smile ever. She absolutely loves it. Let's hope she sleeps better now. [-O<
We bought an insanely expensive exersaucer this weekend when we bought the crib... Because we got 15% off using the BRU credit card and we were already in the hole for $399 for the crib anyway!
LO is too short to reach any of the stuff, but otherwise she finds it entertaining! We only do 5-10 min at a time per the doc - and she's propped up with blankets to keep her back steady.
Ps friends said to get the one that becomes an activity table when they are older so it's not a total waste...
Best purchase of the month goes to the Graco nasalclear. The nose Frida kinda freaks me out even tho there is a filter! With LO catching his first cold it's been a godsend!

We use the baby Einstein turtle for tummy time.

Ps just saw this at Christmas Tree Shop - ladies, we've been duped all this time! And yes it's priced at $7.99...
@SmashJam yup we are close, 6/24.
@hoodoll82 well, damn! Next time I'll just buy a cat play mat, its way cheaper!
Anyway, I digress.
