So sorry! It's pretty standard that the first week will be unpaid while the benefits are being processed. Last time they paid 80% for 6 or 8 weeks (if c-section) and anything else had to be PTO. Our company just split from the parent and the maternity benefits are unbelievably amazing now. 8 weeks 100% maternity + 8 weeks 100% bonding time. I'm very proud to work for a company who has taken a stand to do this for their employees!
Where do you live? Are they hiring?
I work for the federal government and God bless Obama he signed a presidential memorandum in January that guarantees 8-12 weeks of advanced sick leave for parental leave. I don't have a political affiliation, but I love that he did that. There was a bill introduced in Congress in January as well to give fed workers 12 weeks of paid parental leave in addition to normal leave accrual. But that hasn't passed and I get the feeling with the election so close, it won't anytime soon.
