@BuzzBee614 good point, I should have clarified. Of course I do not judge anyone with Celiacs and I'm glad they have more food options these days, my former boss had it and she really struggled with it. I am absolutely referring to the fad dieters!
The topic is unpopular opinions correct? And that's my and many ppls opinion. It doesn't change the fact that we think breastfeeding in public is offensive and disgusting. My opinion is I don't want to see anyone's tit out or their kid sucking on it. Have some decency
You have a right to your opinion, but you are being vulgar. Which is ironic.
First of all, you can't see the breast when the child is latched. Second, the child is eating, not randomly sucking. Third, what happened to you that you are scared of/grossed out by a little boob?
Just conservative that's all. Luckily I live in an an area of similarly conservative women who have enough respect for the public and themselves to cover up.
You seem to think that feeding is a sexual thing. Have you ever actually breastfed or known anyone who breastfed? I can assure you that the only thing a mother is concerned about is nourishing her child when the child needs it. It is best both for baby's development and for mother's milk supply to feed on demand, which means, whenever the baby is hungry, that's exactly when he/she eats. I have breastfed in public discreetly both covered and uncovered and I assure you, no one got a peek unless they were really trying to look. The conservative views you use as a defense that chastise women and aim to regulate our behavior in the name of decency have really made natural, beneficial things like breastfeeding so difficult for so many people. I'm sure that there are some conservatives who would hate to hear you defend your ignorant views by using the conservative term so blithely.
And that challenging look you spoke of? I've given that look to people like you who have stared at and mocked me when I tried to feed my baby on a secluded bench in the mall, or in a corner of a restaurant booth. The first few times, I cried. Then I started staring back if I happened to catch a mean glance. Honestly though? Most of the time I was focused on my baby.
You have a right to an opinion, but please educate yourself.
@PrimRoseMama on breastfeeding
It's still disgusting and offensive. If I was BF I would never do it in public, I'd go to the restroom or car or whatever out of respect to everyone else in the world. But I do appreciate the women who have enough decency to cover. That should be minimum. If I ever saw a woman BF in public I'd Freak out then have my husband start sucking on my tit too and say it's beautiful I'm nourishing him.
I can't even with this... your opinion sounds so immature and childish. I think my elementary students have a more advanced view on this then you do.

1- Pointing out that the "breast feeding nazi" original poster is not the same poster as the one claiming she views it this way because she is conservative. Two different people. The OP hasn't come back since posting her UO.
2- I am conservative in my political views, moderately conservative in my religious views, and am a fairly modest dresser (not Duggar modest but I do tend to prefer to have my boobs and butt covered without fear they will be uncovered).....and I BF'd my DD in public all the time when she was a baby. Sometimes covered, sometimes not. Not a big deal. Being "conservative" has nothing to do with it at all and I feel like this person just gave all us conservatives a bad name.
3- PSA for all anti-public BF'ing people....The majority of us who do BF in public aren't on some sort of campaign or trying to start a revolution. Yes, there are a few like that. I have met them. Yes, they are obnoxious. But most of us are just trying to feed our kid. The majority do it discreetly too, even if they don't leave the room! Not a big deal. Don't make it a big deal. Move on with your life and let us move on with ours.

I'll second this! In fact, I keep my clothes ON when I take a shower, because I'm just really conservative. Everyone from my area does this.
I know it isn't Thursday any more but confession.... maybe it's an unpopular opinion... I'm not sure.
We've all been really nice, polite, and accommodating to ignorance and just plain stupidity on this BMB but it's my opinion that we need to stop.
Some people can have their opinions.... and their opinions can also be wrong. Example.... breast are made for feeding children. They aren't private parts used for the purpose of sexual reproduction. They're baby feeders. And saying someone should hide the use of baby feeders when feeding babies is like saying we all need to walk around with sunglasses on because people are offended to see us using our eyes for seeing.
And while I'm at it.... maybe it's hormones... maybe I'm just a bitch
Can we start gif-ing threads with dumb repeat topics? There's a pinned thread that tells newbies to search and lurk before posting.... why can't people read!!!

I live in a part of New England that is SUPER conservative. However, when I found myself at the mall with bottles of BM but no nipples (oh, baby brain!) and attempted to BF in the bathroom because I didn't have a cover, a kind old lady, the absolute definition of a WASP, had me sit next to her on a bench and she wasn't disgusted by my grotesque breasts. She even helped me readjust my baby because he had a terrible latch. And I will never forget what she said, "Don't feed your baby where other people do their...business. Respect him and yourself enough to let him eat out in the world without a heavy cloth covering him. I wouldn't want to eat with a blanket on my head, would you?"

YES
I agree but I think it needs a better title. Instead of "using the search function" I think we need a "new to the board? Read this!" Then, I'll feel better about being snarky and giffing away!

But we should totally enjoy the peace before the vaccination and gender (say sex everyone, it's the correct term) discussions starts.
The Welcome/Introduction thread started by lalala2004 should really be pinned. She's got all the helpful info in there (how to search, etc.) and it is more likely that someone will click on that rather than a thread simply called "using the search function."

Breastfeeding is disgusting and offensive?! What do you think your boobs are for?! They aren't for show or just something for your husband to enjoy. Have you ever nursed before? Enjoy nursing sitting in a bathroom stall.
And your husband sucking on your boob is not comparable. That is just a silly comparison. It's a sad day when someone believes feeding a baby is disgusting. THAT is disgusting.
Late to the party but I just can't.
@mariaalene I hope you're able to see that your view is the foundation of this problem. You liken the use of breasts to feed children, their intended purpose, to sexuality. Your husband sucking on your breasts is in no way comparable, as this is a sexual act. Our society has sexualized many things including breastfeeding and you've fallen for it. It's fine if you prefer to cover up, but don't shame other women for challenging this oppressive, patriarchal view of breastfeeding.

Wow. I can't even respond this sheer amount of ignorance. Is this your first baby? I have to say it, "just you wait".
The conversation regarding breastfeeding in public has now escalated to the same level as non-vaccinators for me. As in, what you are saying sounds so ridiculous that I don't even believe you are real people.

Absolutely agree. I haven't even been able to comment on this thread, I've just been sputtering at my screen in anger and disbelief. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that a for real pregnant woman is saying these things. Comparing a feeding baby to her husband "sucking on her tit." Nice conservative language, by the way. Let's all just hope she's MUD.
Late to this, but just so I have it right - someone actually thinks feeding a small child in an unsanitary public restroom is the best suggestion? Just so you're not offended?
I had a really difficult time breastfeeding, so just imagine yourself in that situation: emotional, feeling like you're failing to feed your child, and then have someone suggest you leave because their "delicate" (ignorant) sensibilities are offended? I swore I would never say this, but just you wait.
I hope you have a smooth decline from your high horse.
I find it "disgusting and offensive" and down right creepy that someone just compared breast feeding a baby to having her husband suck on her breasts as one in the same. Nevermind how you feel about breast feeding in public, the idea that you think those two are comparable and equal is totally weird.

@-)@-) When I read this I thought it HAD to be a joke... But then I kept reading and found no punchline.
The ignorance of your statements is astounding. I hope after hanging around with your newborn baby for a while you see things differently.

My thoughts exactly. I think my exact reaction was this:
I was really outraged at the BF posts. I actually C&P'ed and sent to a IRL friend who has used the BMB's in the past. She said that PP used to start the same arguments on her boards (yes plural). I think it's just MUD. Someone with too much time on their hands. If I knew how to gif I would insert something witty here.
I think Channing Tatum is super overrated. He's not THAT gorgeous (not saying he's not good looking, mind you) and his acting is just meh. I have not seen the Magic Mike movies and have no interest in seeing them.
TAKE THAT BACK
LOL!!!! Alright, alright, I will watch Magic Mike at some point, I swear.

Oh, they've already started (vaccinations on a pervious UO thread and on the flu vaccine thread; gender/sex on some kind of Sex predictions thread).
I think the push for college for everyone is over-done. I believe in every student being held to a "college ready" standard so that if they choose to go into a profession that requires a degree, they'll be prepared, but I think it's ridiculous to expect everyone to go and to look down on those who choose a different path. (This might not be universally unpopular, but as a high school teacher I've met resistance here: "Of course they should ALL go to college!" ) [-(
As a college dean... I agree. College isn't for everyone. Also I'd love to see schools offer college and vocational tracks again. Or a blended track to let students dabble before they fully commit. I've changed my own profession 3 times since I graduated undergrad. It's not realistic to assume every student aspires to college.
I know it isn't Thursday..... Shoot could we just have an UO thread that is continuous and doesn't have to happen on a specific day of the week?
Anyway, I have another UO I forgot to share the other day. Actually two unpopular opinions and they have nothing to do with breast feeding lol
Fifty Shades of Grey or Gray or however the hell it's spelled, is the most idiotic book I have ever had the displeasure of skimming. It is horribly written, and does NOT portray true BDSM. I totally do not understand the hype of that garbage.

I mean come on do the stanky leg do the stanky leg do the stanky leg...... I'm sorry but if I have a "stanky leg" i'm not gyrating it around for the whole world to see like I'm proud of having a stanky leg or something.
For those questioning why others feel the need to keep their pregnancy a secret, it's not always from fear of miscarriage. I'm trying to keep my pregnancy a secret until the anatomy scan because we had a scare with my son. He was developing very slowly and did not have a normal brain, heart, or kidneys and his nasal bone was missing. It looked like a trisomy issue. We planned to wait as long as possible & look for improvement before deciding whether or not to abort. So I kept the pregnancy a secret from most people until we were in the clear. He is a very healthy 2 year old boy now.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't think it's necessarily about why or how others choose to wait. Your situation makes perfect sense and I have a lot of respect for the strength that it surely took to go through something to nerve wracking. Where I'm coming from is more about those who take issue with someone who shares early, as in judging the choice either way.

Exactly. It should be up to the woman. I just get some surprised looks and weird reactions for sharing early, and I don't feel like people should care or judge! Either way!
The "search feature police" are really irritating.
Here's the issue. When people repeat a topic that's already on the first page, threads that have important questions or losses get buried. There's no reason to be a speshul snowflake and start your own thread for every little thing.
I can guarantee if you had an important question that was buried by endless symptoms threads, you'd be annoyed.
If you posted something was different/important and it got bumped down to like the third page of threads and never got a response, you'd be frustrated at all of the "I'm already showing" threads that each got 10 replies.
