Miscarriage after IUI

I was just wondering if anyone had a successful IUI after having a miscarriage with there first one? I had a miscarriage back in May after trying for a while, My RE suggested doing an IUI in August which was successful but ended in miscarriage, he said we can go on and do another one as soon as we want.. Just wanted some feedback if anyone has had this happen?

Re: Miscarriage after IUI

  • I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I don't have experience with this and many of us on thus board have never been pregnant and carried to term before so another board may be able to give a success story. That being said, there shouldn't be any reason to think another IUI wouldn't work. Afterall, it was successful for you once. The MC could have been caused by a number of things and I can't imagine it had anything to do with the IUI.

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

So am I reading this right that you've miscarried twice then? That could mean a lot of things, but it likely doesn't mean that IUI can't work for you. Your body has shown that it can get pregnant. It's just a matter of figuring out how to sustain it. I'm not sure in the end the IUI will matter one way or the other in terms of figuring out if there's a problem sustaining pregnancy because it doesn't give you any insight into the quality of embryos you're producing, so it's hard to tell if it's a chromosomal issue or something else. I'd say just stay positive and believe the third time is the charm!

There are lots of women on these boards though that have gone on to have successful pregnancies after miscarriages. Realistically 1 in 5 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, so I wouldn't get too discouraged!
