Infertility

husband taking clomid

Hi ladies,

After 2 SA, DH was diagnosed with very low sperm count and motility due to low testosterone. Our RE immediately informed us that IUI would not help us and we would qualify to go straight to IVF. He also sent DH to go to a fertility urologist which put him on clomid. The urologist informed us that his numbers would improve but he couldn't assure us that they would improve enough for us to conceive naturally. Because I don't want to wait three months to see if "possibly" they improved we have decided to start IVF. (I also have a blocked tube so that also hurts our chances). Has anyone had a similar experience and their husbands sperm improved dramatically??  The urologist told us that even if his numbers doubled it might still not be enough. Hoping there are some people that have had some success. TY

Re: husband taking clomid

  • We were in the same boat. DH was diagnosed with low sperm count too. Less than 2 million. He's been on clomid for over a year now. Some improvement but def not enough to try IUI or naturally. We are on our second IVF cycle, first one was canceled on stim day 6 due to poor response. After finding his issues out I learned I have diminished ovarian reserve and am only 26. So we are starting a very aggressive treatment now. Good luck!
  • @tennesselove thank you for your response! I guess there really is no point in us waiting for something that may not improve. Good luck to you too and I hope this 2nd time around works for you!

  • Hey @villacis811 my husband took clomid, he ended up being on it 3 months, his count went from 4 million to 26 million. We had to do ivf because of my issues, but with these #s they still did ICSI. Good luck on your journey!

  • @2legbaby Thank you for your response. Its good to know that the medicine helped improve his numbers so much. Sounds like we are on a similar journey since I also have my own issues. I also wish you good luck and FX for your BFP!

  • My husband has very low testosterone, 0% morphology and low motility. He had 2 sperm analysis' 6m apart then we saw a urologist. He started clomid in august. He will have monthly blood work and another analysis in November. We just got the results back from the first blood work and his Testosterone doubled. No mention of ivf by any of our Drs yet. They said the may suggest iui if we can get his numbers up. So for now we continue crossing our fingers and using ovulation kits for timed intercourse. Good luck to you and your hub.
  • @soverthis Doubled in one month is great!!! good luck to you as well!

  • Just out of curiosity when men are prescribed it, is it similar to a females dose? Or is it every single day?
  • Hi there! My husband and I are in the same position. My husband has low sperm count and low motility but good morphology. He was also put on clomid due to low testosterone. We have seen a little bit of improvement over the last 2-3 months, but not enough to do IUI or conceive naturally so we just started our first IVF cycle. I was similar to you in that I didn't want to wait 3-6 months to see if his numbers improved enough. My RE also said that even if the numbers improve they don't always see an increase in pregnancy rates. I also have PCOS so that impacted our decision as well. Hope this helps! Good luck!:)
  • @mom48040 my husband has to take the pill twice a week. @runmeg91Is your DH still talking the clomid? I just started BCP so I will be starting in a few weeks. I'm super nervous!  FX for you!!!

  • @villacis811, yes my husband is still taking clomid:) I will be interested to see what his counts are at our egg retrieval because it's been a month or two since his last sample. He is also getting his testosterone retested in October to see if it has increased at all. Wishing you best of luck in your first ivf cycle! Honestly I thought the BCP was the hardest part so far. I felt like those 3-4 weeks went by so slow, but once you start the injections things move really fast! :)
  • My hubs takes a 1/2 tab on MWF. Sorry. Not sure of the dosage.
  • @runmeg91 thanks that's good to know! I will be having surgery in two weeks in order to have my fallopian tube removed. Right now I am anxious to get that procedure over with and then I will stop my BCP two days later.
