Just shy of 37 weeks. Cervix still high and closed as of yesterday. But today I've been getting BH like crazy, every time I stand up I swear. Mildly crampy. But my back hurts super bad and it's feeling like I've got a spreader bar in my groin and pelvis. It takes me a few feet to almost be able to walk "normal". I've also been getting some pains in my lower right side but I'm thinking that's ligament pain when baby moves or I twist a certain way. Really starting to get uncomfortable in these last few weeks.
Alright so this is my second kiddo. With my first I had to be induced due to an infection, so I have no idea what's normal and what isn't at this point. I'm 38 weeks tomorrow, had to be put on meds at 33 weeks to stop preterm labor. Now that I've been off those for nearly 2 weeks, up until today I wasn't having any issues. This morning I woke up with really painful contractions that were 20 minutes apart. Now they're down to 10 minutes and still just as intense. I started losing big globs of what I assume is my mucus plug, contractions refuse to go away no matter what I do, and I've had a headache from hell since last night. Also having a lot of pressure in my crotch area. Does this sound normal to you? My fiance says we should wait before going in, but we live 20+ minutes from the hospital. I have no idea what I should even do. And the oncall doctor hasn't called me back. I've called 3 times.....
Curious about what you other ladies have been told about when to go to the hospital when your water breaks. I'm a FTM so I'm clueless. I've seen a bunch of different suggestions based on contractions, color/odor of fluid, etc. This is partially my fault but I never even asked my doctor when I should go in if my water breaks and I don't remember what they said in our class. I have a small list of last minute things I need to pack and do before we leave and if I'm not feeling like labor is immediately I imminent I would like to take a quick shower too.
FTM here too! I was told to call my dr immediately if my water breaks and they will advise me as to what to do. I don't think you are supposed to shower as that could theoretically introduce bacteria into the birth canal. My dr works in her own private practice so after we talk to her and she advises us, we are also supposed to call the hospital, tell them what is up and tell them what my dr said. I've seen several posts saying you should always call labor and delivery in the hospital before you head in....sometimes if they are understaffed or happen to have too many people birthing at that time they will sent you to another hospital. This actually just happened to my sister and brother in law so I'm definitely going to call the hospital before I head over. Don't want to drive all the way there and then have to drive to a different hospital!
@brookebug25 I believe most hospitals go by the 4-1-1 or 5-1-1 rule. Contractions 4-5 minutes apart lasting for at least a minute for an hour. Maybe if you live slightly farther from the hospital you could go in if they are 7 or 8 minutes apart instead? Or if you feel like you need to go in now then do it!
thanks everyone who responded to my rant..lol.. I feel better after talking to my doctor today. She said I will probably deliver on my due date or this weekend! and she said not to stress about the weight that I can do it and she's sorry she sent the script to a new place that they had nothing to compare it to, that it's just an estimate. I'm just gonna try my best, that's all I can do! I'm just glad she didn't say anything about inducing. I'm 1.5 cm dilated at 70%effaced. I've been having contractions all day. She said baby's head is low and ready to go!!
I just had a 10 lb baby. It did not seem that much harder than my 8 lb baby. He was positioned well and i only pushed for 10 minutes. Granted I've had babies but a good positioned ten lb baby comes out just like a good positioned 6,7,or 8 lb baby. You can do it!
Anybody having trouble breathing? I would find myself out of breath a few weeks a go when moving around, but this is happening when I'm sitting. Feels like a lot of pressure on my chest when it happens. I told my doctor this past Monday and he didn't seem concerned because my vitals were fine. I've tried sitting back, laying down, deep breathing exercises...nothing helps and it makes me almost panic because its so uncomfortable.
Yepp! I am! I get winded just telling a story/talking to my husband. I think it's normal at this point, try not to let it send you into anxiety.
Yesterday at 10 am I had my 40 week checkup with my doctor, she did an internal exam and I was sealed up tight as a drum which was extremely disappointing. We discussed the plan to proceed with induction and when I voiced my concerns about inducing with an unfavorable cervical situation she changed the plan to stretch over a three day period to try and ease my body into the process and give my body more time. However due to large amounts of protein in my urine and swelling in my hands and feet she does not feel comfortable waiting longer than Monday to begin the process.
After my appointment I slept basically all day, waking up at 10 pm to eat and dozing on and off all night. Around 4am I started getting some mild contractions and around 5:30 after peeing I wiped and there was a pinkish tinge on the paper. My next bathroom break there was bright red blood on the paper but no mucus. By 7 am there were two silver dollar sized blood spots soaked into my pad and when I wiped the paper was bright red and there were small black blood clots. Could this be the bloody show? I thought it was supposed to be more slimy? I'm considering calling L&D but don't want to over react.
I get bleeding (bright when I wipe, brown on my panty liner) every time I have a cervix check. My doctor warned me it could happen and said as long as it's not heavier than a period to not worry.
Is anyone else feeling baby constantly head-butting your crotch? I see why my bones are so sore now! He will go at it for minutes on end, which makes me wonder why I am not more dilated or how my water hasn't broke yet. Anyone else?
Your cervix is in a posterior position or towards your butt for duration of ur pregnancy. It moves to be in line with the birth canal just before labor or anterior cervix (idk what the actual time frame would be). Im 38w 5days and my cervix is soft but still in a posterior position.

Yes and also right before bed! It's terrible. I gasp in pain and it freaks my husband out.
Fun fact! The bleeding ended up being my bloody show, not mucus-y at all so crazy! Also i never noticed losing my mucus plug either. I did notice after my contractions started to get a bit more intense that i had some strange pink tinted watery leakage. My mom chalked it up to discharge and i believed her. I ended up at L&D at 7pm and they found out i was 1cm dialated and my water had broken! I had been leaking amniotic fluid basically all day so ive been admitted. Its going to be a long night.
For the calf pains try eating a banana. Usually its a sign of potassium deficiency. I'm a FTM too and I asked my doctor about when I should come in based on different scenarios. He said when my water breaks or any time I start bleeding come in immediately. When I start having contractions start timing them and if they are consistent and are coming in intervals to call the hospital. He actually told me not to wait for a certain amount of time. He said when they are the real deal I will no because the pain will be unbearable. I love my doctor because he said I dont care if its false labor. If you feel like it could be the real deal or you start having weird things happen call me day or night. Its my job to take care of you, and this is the moment you have been waiting for. As a first time mom you have no idea what to expect and I can help you through that. I'm pretty sure most doctors feel this way, so ladies don't hesitate to call.
I had my 36 week visit on Friday. I was measuring 38 cm and have been right on schedule the whole time. She my ob decided to do an ultrasound. He is weighing approximately 7lb3oz. The ultrasound tech kept saying over and over that "he's just out of room" and "he's just a big baby." So they have decided my due date is about two weeks off like I originally thought. I of course called my husband right after the appointment and he seemed real matter of fact about it. Come to find out it's because he thought I said she moved my due date from the 25th to the 20th. Now he is freaking out saying I never told him!
Now since Friday my Braxton hicks have been increasing along with really intense back pain. The back pain was so bad Friday night when I was driving home from work that I almost thought I was going to have to pull over. It wasn't contractions because it was for a solid 40 minutes without letting up at all. The same thing happened twice yesterday for about 15-20 minutes each time. I'm starting to wonder just how early this little guy is going to make his appearance!
Lost my mucus plug yesterday and was just wondering if anyone knew the average time until labor starts. I keep hearing a range from hours to weeks but I'd love to know the average. If most women take a few days or if it is more common to take a week. I'm a ftm and am just getting annoyed with the range answer lol I guess because I'm ancy. Has anyone's dr. Gave them the average length of time from losing the plug to labor?
Okay so I read through all of these and didn't see anyone mention something I am feeling. I have been induced with both previous pregnancies. Oddly enough, I barely remember anything about how the contractions felt etc! So I am 37w 3d and it literally feels like my pubic bone is separating. The pressure is crazy but the pain in my hips and pubic bone literally makes me want this baby out now! Is this normal? I don't remember ever feeling this before.... Ugh.

Yeah this has been me for the past two weeks and I'm 36 weeks 4 days. Completely normal. A warm bath in Epsom salt helps relieve some of the pain.
I'm super annoyed. My doctor has been checking my cervix for the last 3 weeks and I haven't made any progress. Friday before last, I had the bloody show. And then Saturday and Sunday, I had a little more but not running or heavy. When she checked me this past Friday she said I still haven't dilated. I'll be 40 weeks this Saturday and I'm worried
Also, when she does my checks it hurts so bad! Anyone have suggestions on how to relax during the cervix exam? I do my best to relax but it never seems like I am.
I been up all night I want to cry! I assume they were contractions. They started at 1 and were pretty frequent and long. Was having back pain with them that radiated into my legs. Now they have slowed down and stopped. Also was going the bathroom. "Cleaning Out" now by 4 they are gone! I am fighting off a cold and I'm sure I'm so going to get it now with a night of no sleep for nothing! And I still can't sleep! Grrr and my two year old will be getting up in a few hours!

My doctor didn't start checking me until I was 38w5d, and that was at my request. She was going to wait until this week's appointment (39w5d) but I was curious. She said that there is nothing to worry about when it comes to dilation. We have the same due date, so I VOMPLETELY understand your worry. I am only 90% effaced and 1 cm dialted so I am worried I'll go over 40, but the doctor said that isn't always the case. I hope that helps .
Also, put your fists on the small of your back during the cervical check. It elevates your pelvis and makes the check easier. I had one on Friday because I went in (I was contracting for 5 hours..by the way, no diilation change!!) And instead of the stirrups, she just had me put me heals together and speak my legs. Kind of like the butterfly, but laying down. It was a night and day difference in pain. See if your doc could do that!
TMI: Holy diareah! Is it normal to have bowel movements 2 or 3 times a day for the last 3 days and none of them solid? I know diareah is common at the end of pregnancy but this is just a little outrageous!
Also, heartburn. I thought it went away when baby dropped but my days are filled with heartburn now.
The picture attached is week 32, 33 and last night at 34w3d. I can breath so much easier now and my ribs no longer hurt. However now I am waddling like crazy, my lower back hurts (nothing rhythmic, just ache from the weight change) and picking things off the ground is almost impossible!
My question is: How soon is normal to drop? I work on my feet 10hrs a day in a fast pace environment. I am really hoping to not go early, I'd rather keep working until my due date but feel like I am about to just walk this baby out!
I was just looking this up the other other day. Google tells me babies for FTMs often drop 2 weeks before labor, and second+ timers can be 4 weeks prior. Of course, that's a Googled average, so take it with many grains of salt.
I'm a FTM too. My girlie dropped about a month ago, so it seems Google has failed me. I also work on my feet and was worried about not being able to keep working, or going early but I'm still at it! I'm due Oct 7 so it could be any day now, fingers crossed! When it comes to picking things up if you're able to squat down to get things it helps a lot, or getting a support belt for work to help carry the belly weight (my hospital provides them and it was covered by insurance so maybe you could snag one).
Ahhh! Ladies! I keep getting random spurts of shooting pain in my crotch. The best way to explain it is needles basically in my clitoris region and they a happen when I'm on a resting position. I'll be 37w on Saturday and lost my MP last week. I have had some BH contractions (or maybe mild contractions, not sure?) the last two days. None of my classes talked about these random shooting pains, so I am not sure if it is a sign of early labor or if it's something else but I have a TON of pressure over my cervix through out the day. Any ideas on what's going on?
Probably lightning crotch. :P
Not to be an idiot...but what exactly is "lightening crotch" & what does it mean? I have been getting done shooting pains down there but not quite in my vag, just a little higher.
I'm not exactly sure what causes it to be honest, but most people (including myself) describe it as shooting pains In the vaginal area. I think it can be caused by the baby kicking the cervix but I'm not entirely sure.
If you're feeling pain up higher you may have pulled a muscle or they could be contractions.
I hope this helps.
It has to do with the baby hitting nerves in that area causing the sensation
Yesterday (oct 4th) I had contractions for about 4 hours early in the morning then they went away. Then last night starting around 7pm they came back and lasted until 10am this morning!!! I have been drinking water to make sure it's not dehydration. I am just emotionally drained!!!! I am 39 weeks today and ready to meet our son, I just wish my body would make up its mind!
I'm 40w 5d come morning. No symptoms, I used to have tons of BH and pain back between 34w-39w now nothing. Granted I'm no longer working so I'm much more relaxed, I wonder if this is why baby is staying in. At this point it's crazy to know she will be here in 9 days or less!
Every night for the last week I've waken up with cramps that keep me up for about an hour. I keep finding myself hoping I'm in labor in hopes that I won't have to go to work in the morning
I have had back pain on and off all day I think it's contractions from what my dr described but it's not very strong it does move to the front but the cramping isn't very strong either ? It really haven't been something I could time either ? Anyone else experiencing this? I have had kidney stones like 5 times so I am wondering if my pain tolerance is higher and this could be the early stage of labor.

My goodness I sound so whiney.
The diarrhea is definitely expected - body's way of clearing out before giving birth. I had it for a few days after starting to lose my MP. I wouldn't say it was truly diarrhea but all my poops were definitely loose.
As far as the heartburn I've had it the whole pregnancy so not sure!
37wks 5days heads been engaged from 35 weeks last MD app on the 01/10/15 I was 3/5. I've felt the urge ive had to clean literally everything for the past month or so but yesterday and today I've had no energy, slept most of the day & sore heads. Also had tightening in my belly but nothing sticking. Could this be a sign??
Due date 22/10/15 hoping to meet my baby girl Harper-Rose soon!
I'm so glad this thread is here and that I'm not the only frustrated on! I was starting to think there was something wrong since I've been at 1 cm since 36 weeks (currently 39 weeks, 2 days). My doc said she's seen women go from 0-10 in under 24 hours, and she's also seen people @ 3 cm for weeks.
At this point, I feel like I spend half of the day trying to figure out if symptoms are the start of labor! Back pain, BH, and the "nesting" burst of energy is gone...
My baby has been relatively calm my entire pregnancy, not moving much except in small rounds...the last two days (I'm 38.5 wks) he seems to be moving constantly to the point where it's uncomfortable and keeping me awake at night, anyone else?
Re: It's the "Labor Symptoms" thread! Symptom ?s & Rants go here!
