Stronger braxton Hicks, baby dropped even more my belly is ridiculous today, and pretty sure, tmi, lost the mucus plug a little between yesterday and today (lost more today than yesterday). Supposedly with a STM that's a sign labor will start sooner than later. Will be 38 weeks Tuesday
I'm a few days shy of 37 weeks. I'm pregnant with baby number 2! Baby number 1 came two weeks early; my water broke- it took me hours upon hours and lots of meds to dilate at all with my first. So, I was shocked when I went to my OB apt yesterday to find out I was 2 cm dilated, baby has been head down for quite some time now! Two days ago I started to have a lot of discharge, some with pinkish tint to it! With a ton of period like cramps. Woke up this morning and I've lost my mucus plug- happened a few times today. Contractions come and go, but aren't extremely painful. Opinions//advice? Anyone been in my shoes? When did you go into labor? When would you guess labor is going to happen? I know everyone is different and we can't predict. But- just thought it'd be fun to ask! :-) thanks all!!
I'm so confused. I can't tell if it's my water breaking or not. I got a gush this morning and totally soaked my underwear and then no leaking all day. This afternoon while getting up from my nap it happened again. It's not pee for sure. My midwife said even when I am up and about the baby's head wouldn't seal the entrance to the point of no leaking. So bizarre. I went for such a long walk this morning just incase it was amniotic fluid to see if I could get contractions going, and now I'm just exhausted with no waters breaking or contractions. I've never had so much discharge though!
this is more of a rant~ I'm feeling kind of depressed. I had yet another ultrasound today and went to a new place to do it. The whole experience was weird. Everyone in the waiting room was looking at me like I was an alien, probably cuz I am huge and they are all in their 20s and in the early stages. The US tech acted like I was having a 12 lb. baby, she said my baby is 9lbs. She then asked if I had diabetes, and I'm like no I do not have GD. And she was like wow your baby is a 9 pounder! Then she was acting kind of rude asking me when my last period was -- 12/25/2014...she said that couldn't be right and I had to argue with her, no that is right. Then she asks why I didn't go to the other place I went to before. I'm like I don't know, my doc gave me the script for this hospital..maybe cuz I am delivering at this hospital? Anyways, besides all that I feel scared about pushing out a 9 lb baby, this is my first baby and I'm what is considered old at 38. I feel like crying because I just wanted a normal sized baby now I'm worried about all sorts of complications. I feel guilty, I have gained about 40 lbs. this pregnancy and feel like I've eaten too many sweets maybe that's what made my baby so big. Also, I feel hardly no symptoms of labor. Just some BH contractions but haven't lost the plug or had any sort of change in that regard. I go see my doctor tomorrow. I just don't feel as confident anymore about labor and delivery.
@Rikki_5 that sucks that the tech was so rude. Just remember that late ultrasounds are notorious for being off +/- 2 lbs so baby won't necessarily be big! My LO was 8.5lbs at my 38 week ultrasound and while I was a bit nervous (DH was 10.2 when he was born) I'm just hoping they are wrong. You can do this!
@Rikki_5 please don't worry until your doctor expresses anything to worry about! The ultrasound tech sounds strange anyway, so don't let her opinion get in the way of what you and your doctor discuss. Remember, ultrasounds at this stage can be off and I don't believe eating sweets affects your baby's size unless you have GD, which you don't. I gained 70 lbs with my first (bad, I know) and DS was 8 lbs. Be confident, mama!!
@Rikki_5 I'm so sorry you had that experience. Sometimes techs and doctors say stupid things that get us upset! Just try to relax and enjoy this last bit of pregnancy (I know that's hard, I'm due in 5 days and feeling ready!). You are doing a great job and your baby will be amazing!!
@Rikki_5 I'm sorry that tech was so rude to you. Like people have said those ultrasounds can be off. And everyone carries differently so some of us may look huge while others not at all and we're carrying the same size baby. I'm tall and curvy and people have asked me if I'm carrying twins when I have just one roughly 7 lb 8 oz baby in there. People are ignorant and I wouldn't stress about what they say. If you're baby is healthy that's all that matters.
And for the record my brother was 8 days late, 9 lb 12 1/2 oz and my mom gained 33 lbs. A lot of it is based on you an your spouse's birth weight. I was 7 lb 12 1/2 oz born on my EDD and DH was around 6 and came 2 weeks early. So you're fine and she's just ignorant.
Ftm question! So the period like cramps are those considered to be BH? I thougt BH were just the tight painless ones ?
When I told my NP that I was getting period like cramps she said "that means things are happening!" So I took that to mean they are probably contractions but they could also be strong BH. if they become more regular and more intense then you know they are the real thing.

I also mentioned period-like cramps to my doc and she said they could be BH. I took that to mean that any irregular sort of cramping or mild pains could be BH - period-like, tightening, etc.
Question: I know ultrasounds can be way off at this point, but has anyone else's doc felt their belly and made a weight prediction? Last week my doc felt around (hard) and said the baby is probably around 7 lbs. Wondering how accurate this method actually is. That was 37 weeks; worried that if I hold out another 3-4 weeks I could have a 9lb+ baby. Not something that has happened in my or fiancee's families; both of us were pretty small at birth (6-7 lbs).
thanks everyone who responded to my rant..lol.. I feel better after talking to my doctor today. She said I will probably deliver on my due date or this weekend! and she said not to stress about the weight that I can do it and she's sorry she sent the script to a new place that they had nothing to compare it to, that it's just an estimate. I'm just gonna try my best, that's all I can do! I'm just glad she didn't say anything about inducing. I'm 1.5 cm dilated at 70%effaced. I've been having contractions all day. She said baby's head is low and ready to go!!

Yes my OB felt my belly and estimated 6 lbs 3 oz at my 37 week appt. This is smaller than the ultrasound predictions. Hoping she is more accurate than they were!
Our L&D nurse instructor cited a study on birth weight estimates during our class that was super interesting.
Basically, it was highlighting how inaccurate ultrasound measurements are in 3rd trimester, and the study showed that out of ultrasound measurements, doctor estimates by feel, and mother's guesses, the moms were most accurate. I wish I had a link to it, but I found it so fascinating!
Moral of the story, don't let the weight guesses scare you. As the instructor put it, fat squishes, so 10 lbs sounds huge, but if it's all squishy, no big deal
Hey ladies so I was just watching the bump video for 38 weeks and it talks about headaches and nausea being a sign of preeclampsia . I just saw those mentioned on thread an kind of freaked out because I have been having both the past few days . Waiting for my dr office to open to call but just thought I would mention it here .
All right- I'm officially scared to have this baby. Thought I might be in labor tonight and I think I gave myself an anxiety attack. I just had such a hard time taking care of myself after DS was born and I'm scared I won't be able to take care of both of my kids. I know lots of women do it and I'll have help but I'm still scared.
I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow and I've noticed in the past couple days that baby has dropped significantly. He's putting a lot of pressure on my pelvic region! I've been having period like cramps at least five times a day, but nothing with a pattern. I go back to the doctor later today but I don't think I've dilated any. I guess we'll see! I am convinced if I weren't still on the zofran that I'd have diarrhea, though! Haha
I'm a FTM due October 10th. Probably felt the most uncomfortable in my life before going to bed tonight. Felt like I was going to vomit and have diarrhea, hot then cold, very restless and itchy. Woke up about 130 to go to the bathroom and had the "bloody show". I've been having constant period cramps since Sunday, but nothing timeable. Trying not to panic right now. How soon should I expect labor to start?

No telling. I've been having period cramps for at least a week and started losing my MP on Sunday. I'm having contractions that register on the monitor during NST, but they don't hurt and I noticed they seem to be one-sided which would indicate they're probably just BH. The only change in my body that I even know now is that I went from 1cm last Wednesday to 2cm this Wednesday.
I'm 38 weeks 2 days and having so many symptoms for a few days (sporadic contractions 7-20 minutes apart, diarrhea, lightheaded, and exhaustion) went to my weekly appointment, no further dilation and the next day all my symptoms disappeared. lol This is driving me crazy!
Difference between really bad gas vs. contractions? I've had BH but now the "gas" feels lower, not sure. ah idk paranoid mama here!
Feeling something similar here....maybe TMI, but kind of like pains in my, um, anal area that are radiating up my back. Anyone else experience something like this?
@VioletandRose I feel like there's a bowling ball pushing down on my bottom. Seems like the contractions go between really bad period cramps and really strong pressure on my bottom.
My OB told me that the period cramps real contractions but do not mean that you are in labor, just that your body is getting that much closer. If they start becoming stronger and more regular then you are in active labor.
Anybody having trouble breathing? I would find myself out of breath a few weeks a go when moving around, but this is happening when I'm sitting. Feels like a lot of pressure on my chest when it happens. I told my doctor this past Monday and he didn't seem concerned because my vitals were fine. I've tried sitting back, laying down, deep breathing exercises...nothing helps and it makes me almost panic because its so uncomfortable.
My breasts started leaking this morning! Not a lot but notiabley (is that a word?) Today doc said his head was really low. I opted out of the cervix check because I have my next appointment on Wednesday when I turn 38 weeks. Also my calves are killing me, so crampy and sore! symptoms?! We will see!
I was wondering if someone could help clear something up for me. I'm a FTM and when I went in for my 37 week appointment, my doctor was surprised that my cervix was in an anterior position. I asked her what it meant and she told me that the cervix has to move from a posterior position to an anterior position for labor. I'm still confused as to what it actually means.

Same here! I feel like at times I am running a marathon. I feel like I can't breath and when I go upstairs, I have to take a break. I was hoping that when she drops some it will get better. It definitely did not.
Yesterday at 10 am I had my 40 week checkup with my doctor, she did an internal exam and I was sealed up tight as a drum which was extremely disappointing. We discussed the plan to proceed with induction and when I voiced my concerns about inducing with an unfavorable cervical situation she changed the plan to stretch over a three day period to try and ease my body into the process and give my body more time. However due to large amounts of protein in my urine and swelling in my hands and feet she does not feel comfortable waiting longer than Monday to begin the process.
After my appointment I slept basically all day, waking up at 10 pm to eat and dozing on and off all night. Around 4am I started getting some mild contractions and around 5:30 after peeing I wiped and there was a pinkish tinge on the paper. My next bathroom break there was bright red blood on the paper but no mucus. By 7 am there were two silver dollar sized blood spots soaked into my pad and when I wiped the paper was bright red and there were small black blood clots. Could this be the bloody show? I thought it was supposed to be more slimy? I'm considering calling L&D but don't want to over react.
Curious about what you other ladies have been told about when to go to the hospital when your water breaks. I'm a FTM so I'm clueless. I've seen a bunch of different suggestions based on contractions, color/odor of fluid, etc. This is partially my fault but I never even asked my doctor when I should go in if my water breaks and I don't remember what they said in our class. I have a small list of last minute things I need to pack and do before we leave and if I'm not feeling like labor is immediately I imminent I would like to take a quick shower too.
