How can you do it wrong? As long as they end up with a clean diaper on Id consider that a successful diaper change, no?
In the nursery she lays on her changing mat with her head to my left. I'm right handed and like to hold her feet with my left hand and do all the wiping, cream application and diaper switching with my right hand. When we're downstairs I have a little changing station set up on a corner ottoman and her feet face me but sometimes I find myself angling my own body to the afore mentioned position.
Just wait till they start rolling mid change. The upside down diaper change is an art form. :-)
Edited because I know you're a seasoned momma and have likely had the pleasure of chasing babies down mid change!
Just out of curiosity how do you change your little one? @SassetteSmurfling
I do head to the right. Which everyone tells me is wrong because I'm right handed so like @megvaddi said, it technically makes more sense to have the dominant hand do more of the "work" and the non dominant hand just hold the legs. But I've always changed all 3 of my kids with head to the right. It just feels more natural to me for some reason.
But baths I do head to the left. Haha I guess I can't make up my mind.
Lol I've always done feet towards me. I thought that was the "normal" way until LO was in the nicu & was changed by the nurses head to left which then that's how I did it too while she was their. So I say do it however you want to and is more comfortable!
Im left handed and have head to the left. DH is right handed and he does opposite, but screw anyone who says I do it wrong. The diaper is on and secure, I dare you to tell me to do it better, however, ill let you know if youre putting the diaper on MY child wrong.
lol I have a newborn and a toddler. There is no "right" way. You have older kids too so you know that! Most of the time I change the newborn with feet towards me just cause that is the set up we have right now but occasionally feet pointing one way or another if she is actually on the changing pad (rarely), but I have changed standing diapers, belly down diapers, laying upside down on the plastic slide diapers, crawling away from me diapers, standing in the car seat diapers, pinned down with my legs while flailing diapers, etc... If the diaper that goes on them is clean and stays in place well enough to catch the next round of poop/pee, I say you're doing it right.
@Lalala2326 both my toddlers were terrified of public changing tables so I used to change both of them standing on the tables.

I can't blame them. They kinda terrify me too! :P
This!! I havent used a changing table in a bathroom yet, they gross me out. I open up the back hatch of our jeep and lay her back there to change her when we are out.
I'm left handed so I have her head to the right and change, wipe with my left hand while holding the legs with my right hand.
I never know its wrong until my husband does it and her head is to the left. Which freaks me out since the left has the drop off and when she gets bigger what if she scoots herself and falls! It's never happened with our three kids but I always think it's way smarter to do it MY WAY hahaha. Then her head is towards the counter piece.
I actually change/wipe with my right hand but I'm ambidextrous with a lot of things. But a lot of lefties are due to it being a right handed world. (Seriously, angled spatulas are the devil for us.) But also my hubby is a righty so the supplies are kept on the right side. Not a big deal. I do however leave the coffee pot handle turned to the left which drives him crazy lol

Yeah public changing tables aren't for us. I was gifted a Vera Bradley roll-up/ folding wipable mat that matches my diaper bag, I use it everywhere, on the public changing tables, back hatch of the car, on the couch lol... not sure where you could find one but I'm sure it would be worth the search!

LO's head to the left of me if I'm changing her on a changing table. When I change her on the floor/bed/ect. I position her feet first in front of me.
