I have a rule. As long as it's stuck right back in the fridge I reheat it one more time. I'm not wasting it. @lovethatcolosun

We used to put back in fridge and reheat all the time. Then I read you shouldn't. So we stopped. LO never had an issue with it though.
  • Loading the player...
  • We always reheated if LO didn't take it the first time. Never had issues.
  • We don't heat cold milk anymore. I'll set it on the counter 15 min before she needs it to take the chill off. So I don't feel as bad about sticking it back in the fridge. Am I the only one who gives cold milk? We did it with DS, too.
  • @Sammy K Our LO loves her bottles cold!
  • @Sammy K nope, we give LO cold milk too and she loves it!
  • Thanks for all the input ladies.
  • She fed so well before bed tonight. Both sides. No flailing or popping off the constantly clogged side. So happy. But, like clockwork I felt another clog coming on after I had the compress off for 3 hours.

I've been using the packs that stick to your skin for 8 hours as they're the only thing that holds heat enough to break up the clog. I am starting to get concerned about chemicals seeping into my breast tissue from them. Do you think I'm overreacting? It is really the only thing that will break the deep clogs.

  • @dancegurl1118 I have zero idea about the seeping chemicals, but hooray for your successful feed!

Mine gets cold milk from the fridge that way if she doesn't finish it goes back in the fridge for up to 24 hrs

Eta this way she gets the warm good stuff from my boob and I'm hoping this means she won't self wean because the bottle is easier
  • I only keep a warmed bottle out for an hour, then toss if she doesn't drink it. Everything I read says it's "probably" safe to put back in the fridge for next time. But "probably" doesn't sit well with me. I just don't really want to chance a sick baby, I guess. Maybe l'll stretch it to two hours out of the fridge though!
  • So jealous about the cold milk!! That's so great! She'll only take very warm milk!

  • Still having trouble distinguishing when she's done eating. She will pop off the breast but then cry and not go back on. Will go on the other side though. When she's just mouthing and not sucking I take her off but her thumb goes straight in her mouth. Anyone have similar issues?

How old is your lo? Mine has been making lots of signs that she is hungry and then won't take the bottle. She is just becoming more distracted by her surroundings.
  • @dancegurl1118 mine sucks her hand after a feeding too, but she isn't hungry anymore. Just a habit, or soothing thing I think. Plus she's been obsessed with them since she found them.

Could it be that the breast she was feeding on is empty, that's why she's ok with latching to the other?

I also try not to assume that finger sucking = hunger. It always did in her early days, but I now think it's just her favorite activity, or possibly early teething signs. I'd say 70% of the time it's still hunger, but she loves to make loud horrible sucking noises when it's bedtime, even right after a feed! It's so gross lol.

Lo gives him self hickeys on his hand and wrists... He's been a sucker since in the womb per the ultrasounds.. Won't take a pacifier, just wants to get his whole fist (sometimes both at same time) in his mouth.. Also if my arm is by his face he grabs ahold and gives me hickeys

ETA he would be eating constantly literally if I took his hands in mouth as hunger cues
  • Thanks guys. She's 16 weeks. It's usually on my bad clogged boob that she does this but happens on the other side too. There's probably just a low supply of milk.

  • Ahhh! My pump is making this horrible knocking sound in the motor. If I have to spend my Frye Boot money on a new pump I am going to sob. Sobbing right now just writing that. Nofairnofairnofair.

Call the manufacturer! They may send you a replacement

  • I went back to work on Monday and thus have been pumping during the day and bf lo at night. However, I've noticed every morning his first poop is green, which from what Google tells me he is getting too much foremilk, not enough hindmilk. I wonder if I am pumping too often during the day? He's a one boob eater and somewhat of a snacker...so when I ebf he takes 1 boob every couple hours. But I can't be pumping every 2 hours at work. What I've been doing is pumping them both every 3 hours. Maybe I should just do 1 every 3? But that seems like I won't get enough to feed him the next day. Anyone else run into this issue? Suggestions? This pumping business sucks:(
  • @slynnn768 I don't pump but I produce a lot of milk and LO gets green poops occasionally, especially if she sleeps all night and I wake up engorged. As long as she is happy, not uncomfortable, and gaining ok I don't worry about it. Is your baby also having regular color poop during the day?
  • Also, give it some time and your supply might regulate to your pumping schedule and fix this problem anyway.

My mom (who is watching him) said His poop started out green for her and went back to normal later on in the day. And you're probably right about my supply adjusting itself in a few days...ill give it some time before I make any changes to what I'm doing I guess.

    Thanks for your input :)

Unfortunately its over 3 years old. I may call then anyway to see what they recommend. It seems to still be working. My insurance only covers a new pump every 5 years.

  • It seems like LO is just living on let downs unless she is in a dark room and not distracted. The second she gets distracted she pops off and won't go back on. She only took 2.5 oz at BF support group -- and only gained 3 oz in 9 days. Because apparently I have nothing else to stress about... :((

  • Kind of stupid question over here-

When do you feed LO in the middle of the night? When they wake up, or when they cry?

DD has been sleeping in her nursery the past few days, but when she was in our room, I would feed her upon waking, so she didn't cry and wake the whole house. Now that she's in her crib, I just heard her wake up, and i'm watching the monitor. She's kicking and cooing, but not crying. I'm waiting it out to see if she falls back asleep. What would you do?

My guy is starting to get distracting too, pops off and on its driving me nuts, but he still has plenty of wets and poops at least once a day (some babies don't poop everyday and it's fine) he has slowed down on his eating which is totally normal, I bet your LO is just fine try not to stress too much.. You are doing a great job

We did the same...I watch the video monitor. Tonight she ate at 1130 and then woke up at 2. I figured she wasn't hungry yet and after about 15 minutes she put herself back to sleep. She started thrashing again around 4 and was starting to get worked up so we did go in there figuring it had been about 5 hours since her last meal so she was probably hungry. She rarely gets to where she's crying at night before we get to her but we can tell when she's probably going to put herself back to sleep and when she's not.

Well, our LO is still in the pnp in our room, but he does still sometimes make noises or wake up without us actually getting up for him. So he might wake up or be moving around and making noise, and I'll peek over the edge of the bed at him but not get up and I try to stay out of his line of vision so he doesn't see me and wake up farther. If I'm not expecting him to need to eat right then, as long as he doesn't start crying I wait a while to see what he does. If he went to bed really early and missed his usual 'before bed' feeding, then I'm expecting him to want to eat so I might wait a little less amount of time before going to get him. Also, I can kinda tell when he's winding up because he is upset (not crying, but working up to it eventually) and hungry vs just being awake and making noise.

Sigh...bright green poops all weekend. Plus there was some pinkish mucus this morning as well which can apparently be attributed to oversupply. I'm going to have to try to change something this week. I'll again ask if anyone else has had this problem with oversupply and pumping for work...if you have any suggestions. :(
  • @dancegurl1118

I had no idea what you might be going through until early this morning... I have a super hard super painful spot on my breast... I'm assuming this is a blocked duct. I haven't experienced this before I know you have a multitude of times... Any advice for what's worked best for you to resolve it?

I don't need the advice cause I read the follow up that was posted, but I can't believe it, I think this is happening to me. Me, the girl who can't really produce. What a surprise. So I guess this means I might be making more than I think I am, or LO isn't drinking as much. Who knows. What a pain in the tit.
    :|

Sorry you have to keep dealing with these, @dancegurl1118 .

  • Oh don't worry guys, blocked ducts have been laying low for the past week, I've only had one for 24 hours. Now I get vasospasms in my nipple for hours after she's done eating. Think of a shooting electrocution. It's great. Something HAS to be terribly wrong with her latch on this one side. Because nothing happens in the other side. How does that make sense though? Her Latch should be her latch should be her latch, it shouldn't be different on both sides. I've tried different positions, etc. I DON'T GET ANY OF THIS. Is my right nipple just broken?
