Formula Feeding

Alimentum to...?

Hi.  I mostly BF, but due to my breast reduction several years ago, I just don't have enough milk in the afternoon/evenings when my supply slows down, so I'm supplementing.  I've been using Alimentum, which is only available in the rts cans here.  My LC recommended it, but I'm not sure if there's something else that might work as well, since I'll be in it for the long haul.  I don't know that rts larger cans make sense, since in general I only use one small can a day now, so I was debating about a powder formula.  LO, as far as I know, doesn't have any kind of allergy to dairy - I started the Alimentum just hoping it would be easier on her tummy.  (And man that stuff STINKS.)

Re: Alimentum to...?

  • Nothing against those that use Alimentum, I know plenty of moms who do and whose babies thrive on it. But I cannot handle the smell of it or soy formula either. I think pregnancy made my nose extra sensitive!

You may as well try any formula. I think our pedi said give it a week or two to see if baby can tolerate it. We use Hipp and our twins do great. Just try a few different ones out and see how your little ones do! Good luck!

  • That stuff is so expensive! Both of my nephews had to have that due to belly issues. That's interesting that they recommended that but they are obviously the experts. I've been supplementing with gerber gentle for supplementing and just switched to enfamil gentlease to hopefully help my dd with some gas issues she's been having
