Due next month - help us with her name!

Hi! I'm due next month with another little girl. The sibling names are Nora and Oliver. We're leaning towards Sara but is it too common? I like Ads and Alma too but we don't have any family ties or anything to them. We are open to suggestions too! Thanks!

  • Sorry, typo or autocorrect - Ada, not Ads :)

  • Love love LOVE Alma. That was my sweet grandma's name.

  • I love Sara! It's such a pretty, feminine name!

    EDD for #1: 3/19/17
  • I prefer Ada or Alma over Sara. But that's just my bias as there are tons of Sara(h)s where I live.
  • I think Sara is pretty and goes nicely with Nora and Oliver. NAF of Alma.
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • Keep thinking. Ask the ladies here for suggestions, some of them are really spot on. Alma and Ada seems kind of old ladyish, and Sara is too common for your other names. I think you have two really great names for your older kids and number three needs something just as special.
  • Sara is a common name in general, but I don't feel like I know any little kids or babies with that name. I like it better than your other other choices.

  • Sara is classic but it's not trendy, whereas Oliver and Nora are trendy. But I don't like most trendy names and I like Sara better than the other options by a landslide.
  • Ada. Love it!

  • Thanks everyone! I didn't really think of Nora as trendy when we named her.  In 2011, it was #136, last year it was 49! It's definitely more common than we expected - I think we know of like 4 or 5 now.  I'm a little disappointed it's so common but the name definitely fits her :)  We knew Oliver was a little more trendy but it's still getting more popular too.

We were leaning toward Sara since it means "Princess" - Princess is the name that Nora wanted for her sister! My husband is also Middle Eastern and the names Nora (Noura) and Sara have Arabic origins.  But when I was growing up, there were like 5 Sara/Sarah's in my class and it's the name of my cousin's new wife.  It's definitely not as popular as it was in the 80's though.

I'd love to hear any suggestions! I feel like I'm in a rut and keep looking at lists with the same 50 names, 49 of which my husband has already crossed off! I liked Tabitha, Penelope, and Sabrina which he already vetoed. He liked Lila, Stella, and Amelia (which I like but they're names that his already used for their kids) Why is finding a name so difficult!?

    Thanks again!

What about Ava? It's similar to your second two choices, but maybe not as old sounding as pp said. I have no idea about it's popularity, though.

ETA: Okay, just saw that it was #5, so that is probably more popular than what you were going for. I love the name though.

  • I love Ava but it's too popular right now. I think that's why I like Ada too since it's close. Maybe something else similar but less "top 5" I can't think of anything though...

  • I love Ada!
  • I picked Alma because although I like Sarah, I think it is too similar to Nora (with the -ra endings)
  • I love Ada. Sara is super common in my state.

    Juliet
    Ivy
    Natalie
    Iris

  • Ada. I know Sars is classic but I have always thought it to be a bit boring.
  • Alma is what i voted for! such a beautiful name & not very common either. i might almost consider this for my baby, if it is a girl that is :p
  • I think Sara goes best with your other two names. I'm a little biased, I've always loved Sara (esp. without an H). Although it was a super common name when we were younger, I don't think it's as common now.
  • Thanks everyone! I really like Iris too! My daughter suggested Lucy, her friend name from VBS. I'm kind of liking Maya too from another name posting. I'll run a few past my DH today :)
