I'm 17w5d, and I gained about 15 lbs according to my home scale. Doc appointment tomorrow though, so I find out if I'm on track or not. I've gained weight faster since starting my new job since I'm at a computer all day instead of running around taking orders and making drinks.
After moving to the US my diet changed dramatically - lots of walking and fruit/salad and hardly any processed foods turned into lots of quick convenience meals, hardly any walking and the introduction of SODA to my life ! Now baby has added 8lbs and I'm totally 161lbs.. It's the heaviest that I have ever been in my life, by a long shot. Luckily at 5'11 it hardly shows but when I saw that number I was really upset and bothered by it for a good few days. Then I realized ... I'm making a baby and stopped worrying ! I've made it a goal to only put on pregnancy weight and not extra weight from overeating during my pregnancy. I've almost completely cut out soda ( but dang that $1 coke from McDonald's is so tasty) and trying to plan meals better so that baby is getting a good dose of vitamins and minerals.
Things that I have come to rationalize - no, my husband doesn't think I'm gross and fat... So please don't ever let that slip into your mind for any moment ( a partner being less physically is probably a sign of fear of hurting you or the baby especially if it's baby number one)
If you feel sick, give into whatever feels good no matter if it's McDonald's fries or a banana milkshake - some fuel is better than non so don't be guilty calorie counting
Take the time to pamper yourself even if you don't think you have the time - it's amazing how much better you feel sometimes when you just spent a little alone time having a manicure or facial
Remember that it's just a number - as long as baby is healthy and happy then that weight will come off sometime after March ( apparently breast feeding is a great fat burner )
Congrats ladies - all those pounds are leading to something very exciting ! Skinny was so 5 months ago !!
When I went for my 16 week appointment, I'm up 9 pounds. I started at 138 at 5"7'. Doctor didn't say anything, so I'm sure the body is doing what it's suppose to be! Although my diet is drastically different now than what it was pre-pregnancy, I very much expected the increase (and welcome it!).
I'm up 15 pounds at 17 weeks. I know it's more than I should be gaining, but I don't usually eat many carbs and now they're all I can stand/stomach. So...naturally I've gained. I'm hoping to stick to a 1 pound per week track for the rest of the pregnancy, putting me at about 40. Not ideal, but still way less than the 60 I gained with my first.
I find this thread to be very reassuring. I had a very difficult time with my weight. I lost 25 pounds during the first 16 weeks. Now I'm 17w5d and have just gained 2 pounds back.
I had horrible morning sickness, a couple a viruses and a urinary infection that landed me in the emergency room for dehydration and the fact that my body had started breaking down things it shouldn't be in order to get nutrients.
It was scary. But I always enjoyed reading this thread and seeing everyone's different experiences with their weight.
I gained 2 pounds, I'm 20 weeks. Doctor said nothing about weight gain or loss. Should I be concerned? I've been sick the whole pregnancy.
I am down 3lbs still but obviously showing ... They are happy since baby's growth is right on target. Pregnancy can chang your metabolism as as long as you are eating right and not over doing anything you should be fine

I've gained 10 pounds at 20 weeks. I felt like the baby grew overnight one night last week so I'll find out my newest weight this Friday at the doctor. I think the best thing that happened was when the battery died in my scale at home!
I eat a healthy breakfast and lunch then have whatever I'm craving for dinner. Sometimes that's fruits and veggies, other times it's mac and cheese. I feel good (other than heartburn) and my blood pressure is okay, so I feel I'm good without worrying about my weight every week.
I just want to know what is the point of this thread now? You all should stop comparing yourselves to others, there are too many variables and there's no point in doing so. Reading what one woman has done "oh I'm 17 weeks and I've lost 5 pounds overall!! Haha oops" is not going to make you feel good or realistic. Stop talking about weight and then so many women won't be self conscious over it. I'm 20 weeks and up 18-20 pounds. Guess what!? Who cares!!
I started at 127 and I'm 5'7 so I look great!!
Yes!! Finally someone who has the same answer as me! I'm tired of seeing those posts about being 20 weeks and having only gained two pounds. I have nothing against that, but I have gained 14 pounds at 19 weeks pregnant (I too am 5'7") and I don't really give a crap. If I start gaining too fast I'll worry, but I could still gain 20 pounds in the next 20 weeks and still be right on track so I'm not stressing about it.
But if you're so comfortable with your own weight gain, then why are you tired of reading about women who have gained or lost differently from you? It really shouldn't bother you at all.
On a slightly related note, yesterday DH took the girls to a Halloween party with food served, and left me home alone in blissful silence. Since I didn't have to make dinner, I decided to have a huge mug of ice cream for dinner. It was so much ice cream that I almost couldn't finish it. I figured that was my meal for the evening... but then around 9 PM I got really hungry again and ate more than half of a frozen pizza. Lol health diet fail.

You have nothing against that but you're going to go ahead and comment anyway immediately after someone specifically said they only gained 2 pounds. Way to kick a girl while she is down and concerned....
As in life, if someone is gaining/losing slower/faster than you, you just have to focus on yourself. While you said you don't give a crap, the little dig at women who have gained little to nothing would suggest otherwise.
I finally gained weight!! I'd just like to say that I'm not proud of it taking this long. I've spent a lot of time feeling like I've been doing something wrong, even though my doctor has been perfectly fine with my progress. Not everyone who has only gained a few pounds is bragging about it.
I must say I use this thread for the exact opposite. I search for the girls who have gained as much weight as I have! A big worry I have is gaining too much too fast, because of my PCOS/endo. I lost 50-60 pounds just so I could get pregnant- So yeah I tend to compare myself to others, to make sure I'm not gaining too much! Its not like we are all here comparing how MUCH we weigh to each other, just how much we are gaining/losing. The girls that only lose or gain 2 pounds, they don't pertain to me. The mama's that have gained 15-20? Those are my girls!

I was checking in on this post to compare too, I am on baby number 4 pregnancy number 6.... 21 weeks... I have gained 17... which is really good considering with my other three I gained over 50 with each. I am 5'11''. and I m just worried that the older I get the harder it will be to get back in shape.... that's all. I enjoy reading everyones post so thanks for sharing!
I'm 18 weeks & have gained 12 pounds. My midwife said I've gained too much and need to slow down the weight gain. I gained 8 pounds since my last appointment 5 weeks ago and I should have only gained 1/2 of that. I'm not too terribly worried, but as this is my first baby I want to do things "right"! Which includes gaining the "right" amount of weight at the "right" time. Reading through this blog made me feel better cause it's obvious everyone gains different amounts at different times. Happy gaining ladies!

I just got back from my 21 week appt and have gained 16 lbs during my pregnancy and I am 5'10. I have never been a fan of this thread but do enjoy when I have something in common with someone I am pacing to gain 35 according to my doc and all it well. This is my first baby monster. Congrats on your 4th baby!
I'm 18 weeks 3 days and I've gained 8lbs. Today my doctor told me he'd like me to only gain 10lbs total. This has been something I've been worried about because I've struggled with my weight my whole life! I'm terrified of gaining to much weight. I've seen friends and family who gained weight and never lost it. I'm just so tired. Prior to getting pregnant I worked out every day and now I'm working out maybe 3x per week. I have like 0 energy. I just had to vent because I have no one to vent to.
I went from not having gained any weight to having gained 12 lbs in a month and a half!!! I'm so discouraged, is this normal? I feel like my diet didn't change at all?

Every single women's weight gain/loss will be different. Even every pregnancy gain/loss is different. There's not really a "normal" when it deals with anything related to pregnancy. The only thing we all have in common is that there's a human (or two or three) growing in each of us. I honestly don't own a scale. Haha

According to the scales today I lost 5 pounds! I think the doctor scales are wonky! Its probably something as stupid as the difference in the clothes I wore this week vs. last week, different shoes, etc. Who knows. But I'm back down to below 15 pounds gained now...

Dr. Scales are always wonky. At the doc I always weigh more. Why do they do that?!

And keep in mind it's not just what you're eating. Your baby is weighing more. Your placenta weighs a bunch. All the extra blood weighs a bunch. You have a bunch of fluid in there. Somewhere in there it all evens out - and you will find weeks that it seems like you don't gain at all when others you gain like 5 pounds.

At 19 weeks I was up 10 lbs. Last week with the stomach flu and pneumonia I lost 7. So at 21 weeks I'm at +3 overall. Thankfully I had a lot of spare to lose and it didn't affect baby.

That does seem to be common. It's not how I generally gain my weight but I have noticed from being on the boards with 3 other babies that it's not uncommon. Some people gain more gradually and others tend to gain more in the 2nd half of pregnancy. Very rarely will you get to the end of pregnancy and still see posts of 'I'm still down 7 lbs' except in some cases of GD or HG. Personally I slowly, steadily gain weight from the day the test turns pink, practically. So while it's frustrating to gain 7lbs in the first trimester I know I'll max out around 25 total. Just seems like a lot at first and but that's just what my body does, just like some people gain the majority in the 2nd half of pregnancy.

I gained 8 in 7 weeks and i felt the same way. I also feel like I haven't changed my diet but have managed to gain 16 lbs at 21 weeks. I'm going to say NORMAL just because its happening to me!
Can I just throw in my latest weight check in to everyone and make ya'll feel a little better LOL... I had my 20 week ultrasound today and I am up 26 pounds. I weighed 137 when I got pregnant and now weigh 163. I am 5'8. My doctor said I should only gain 32 the whole pregnancy. So needless to say, my diet is getting cleaned up ASAP. I have gained 9 just since my 16 week appointment. So. There's that haha
I was scared to read this thread because while I'm a wee bit over weight (a decently muscular 203, 5',9" all in my butt and thighs) I also have trouble gaining weight when pregnant due to severe morning sickness. Last pregnancy I legit cried every time I stepped on a scale because I knew my baby was at risk for low birth weight. I ate very healthy and ate often but gaining/losing weight is input vs output and even though I wasn't exercising I was throwing up a lot of my food. I'm happy to see there's other Mom's like me out there! I felt so alone last pregnancy. I'm 18 weeks and have gained 2 pounds (last pregnancy at this time I was down 10). We're all different and all have our hangups. Glad I power read this thread I feel MUCH better : )
Weighed a pound less than expected at doctor appointment this week. Celebrated by eating donuts.
That's how this works, right?
I'm also gaining mostly in my hips and thighs. I usually gain weight in my legs when I'm not running, but this is a whole other level. The dimples, so many dimples ("dimples" sounds cuter than "celulite" am i rite)
Just remember (one of my favorite food rules): when eating things like donuts, always eat an even number. If you eat 2 (4-6 is more realistic for me lol) that evens the weight distribution out to the same on each butt cheek, boob, hip, etc.

I'm 20lbs up at 20w, and only 5lbs left until I reach my "goal" weight gain. And we all know how the last half of pregnancy goes! Geez. I gained 70 with my first babe. I just really don't want to do that again.

Eeek I am up 13 lbs according to doctor's scales!!! I'm 20+2. Yikes!! I've weighed this much before not pregnant so I don't feel toooooo bad but still.... I don't feel huge, clothes that don't touch my stomach still fit... I'm a little scared of what's to come though in the next twenty weeks!!
At my 20 week appointment I was only up 1 pound from my last appointment, I've gained 9lbs so far this pregnancy, pre pregnancy I started out "plus size" so I'm trying to be careful not to gain too much! My last pregnancy 8 years ago I gained 92lbs! (Terrible I know) i def don't want to do that again! From my 20 week scan baby is healthy and 2 ounces bigger then average, so she's doing just fine! (Blood sugars are also fine with me) it reassured me I was doing okay, I had a fear I wasn't gaining enough for baby to be growing sufficiently!
Good luck to all the Mama's to be! No matter what you've gained your all beautiful!
22 weeks and up 24 pounds. And after weeks of feeling down about my gains, I've finally come to terms with it. I'm pretty confident I can get it all off after birth. And I've learned to stay off the scale. lol. I'm nearing 200 pounds (starting at 170). The weight gain I can handle, the number I can't. Lol.
