He played college rugby with my best friend from high school, we ran in the same social circle for years, knew eachother's boyfriends and girlfriends, and when we were both single some 3+ years after meeting, I got a call from my best friend saying "Dave keeps asking me to get you to come out." I did, *we did*, and I locked that shit down.
We met at yoga. He's sort of famous in our city, and way better at yoga than everybody else because of his "career". I went over to him after class and said, "I know who you are. Yea you're a yoga cheater". Two months later we went to Thailand for one month and haven't been looked back since!
We met in high school. We started dating right after, so technically we're not "high school sweethearts." Love reading there are a few ladies out there who also met their SO's so young!
Like @ellaxo1 I met my hubby on plenty of fish. I was not into the idea but my friend made me sign up and created my profile. A couple days later he messaged me and we started chatting. I had been on a bad date (another person from POF) and was talking to him on the drive home about how awful it was that the guy didn't at all look like he picture and showed up to dinner at a nice place in a basketball shorts and a shirt. He begged me to meet him for dinner that week. I did. He showed up in the exact same outfit as his profile picture and stood in the exact same pose as his profile picture for a second. Before I started laughing and blurted out "You are cute. I'm in trouble". Been together for three years, married a year (in August). And @Paige6410 I totally got that "unbelievable type of thing you see in sappy romance movies" feeling the second I looked in his eyes.
We met through online dating, messaged back and forth through the site a bit, and then emails because our messages were so long, and then phone calls all in less than a week. Our first date was coffee and then went to a pool hall, when it came to the end of the night we stood in the parking lot talking for over an hour because neither of us wanted to say goodnight. Flash forward four months and we moved in together officially. Eight months later we bought a house together (woke up in it the first day on our one year anniversary). A year after that we got married. And now here we are expecting our first child :x
Met my DH at a local dive bar, had a bunch of mutual friends, he was that wild eyed country boy and I was wreckless and all about a good time lol. Jumped on the back of his four wheeler after barely knowing him and the rest is history!!Haha 6+ years and never had a doubt about us. Turns out when looking back we had met a bunch of times before, even danced at a wedding but it never clicked till that night.
@apinkpelican random story... So one day, after we had been together about 4 years, we were driving to the beach and I start singing that song to him over and over. I think I'm pretty funny cuz I'm dancing and singing... The whole 9. Well we get to the beach and to my surprise he asked me to marry him! Apparently he thought I was so funny cuz he had a ring in his pocket and I had no clue!!
Well we met at the grocery store, he asked me how to tell if a melon was ripe... Just kidding.
That was our made up story we never actually told anyone. We met online. Plenty of Fish. After a year of paying for eHarmony and all the terrible first dates I had, one month on POF and I met the man who was beyond my dreams. He qualified for 4 of my will not date list. He rode a motorcycle (now selling it), lived in a city I disliked (now I live here too), he is a firefighter (I've gotten over my fear) and he has red hair! BUT he is literally better than my dreams. He is the kindest, sweetest, most patient man. And everyday he shows me that he loves me to death. Even when I am cranky or feel like a giant blump.
He wrote the best email, and against my better judgment I went out to dinner with him 24 hours later. Best first date of life.
Online dating is a lot of work, and disappointment, but when you catch the right fish it is certainly all worth it! :x
We are high school sweethearts. We met in 10th grade at my best friends birthday. We dated a little while and broke up (we were 15 lol) we got back together right after I graduated and have been together 11 years. We've been married almost 5 and this is baby #2
Went to HS together. Found him annoying. Ended up in the same group of friends senior year. Summer after freshman year of college he kissed me when walking me to my car. It was great but unexpected so I made excuses and left and told no one. An awkward week later, he asked me to start dating and I'll always thank my sister for saying "What else are you doing this summer?" 13 years ago and now we are expecting baby #3 and about to celebrate 8 years of marriage. Best friend and best guy.
Went to see a band play, locked eyes with the super cute drummer. He was too shy to talk to me, but it turns out we had mutual friends there. So through them we ended up going out the following Friday. Been together ever since. 6 years and 1, almost 2 kids later...
We met at work. He always calls me a stalker cause I would check his schedule so I could dress cute and wear makeup on days he worked. Funny part is, my cute pants I wore nearly every time he worked... he thought they were hideous. He told me this a couple years later when I was going through clothes to get rid of. Hahah oops!! He wondered why I wore those pants so much - they were my 'hot pants' or so I thought!! We have been together for 6 years, married for 2
My basically sister introduced us in high school and I always thought he was super cute but we were always dating other people at the time. Plus I never figured I'd have a chance, I was a total bookworm and he was handsome and a jock. We ended up going to college in the same city where we didn't know anyone. He Facebook messaged me on a random Tuesday night because he remembered me, I saw he had recently got his lip pierced and I was instantly smitten. Asked him to hang out and we were dating within the week, I invited him to a big Rock concert a few weeks later and he always tells people that's how I reeled him in for good
DH and I met one match.com. We emailed and text each other over several months but it never worked out to meet until 9 months later. Then we got married on our 1 year anniversary of that first meeting (just this past Oct)! We just knew it was right! Now we're expecting our 1st child. It's been a crazy couple of years but I love it!

I love when I think I do something or wear something sexy and my DH is like what r u doing? X_X that's love tho when they tell u the truth! Lol
Wow! Cool to see how many people met their SO/DH in HS!
I met DH at a "hot rod" themed party. Neither of us liked the movie so we went out on the patio to smoke with some other people. I offered him a cigar, (my mom was proven wrong, she always said I wouldn't find a husband if I didn't stop smoking them) and the rest is history. We mostly talked about books and how my dad had been his prof in seminary!
We were married in April, 14 mos after we met and our baby will come a little less than 2 years from when we met
I went to high school with my fiance's brother and sister. His brother and my brother played football together. I was friends with both his sister and brother. At the games I sat with his sister and of course, he was always at the games. One day at an away game my mom was leaving early and so he offered to drive me home. On the car ride back we stopped at a local burger place and we split a ceasar salad. He came over to my house a few times after to play basketball, but it was never official until the night we went to this bonfire with the town.
I was 17 when we met, didn't have a car or my license, and never had a job. (my mom and step dad never helped me with things like that) My fiancé on the other hand was going to UNR (university Nevada Reno) to become a teacher, had a job, and coached basketball for kids. The little spare time he got; he taught me how to drive, helped me look for a job, took me to my interviews, ect.
This was such a big deal to me because we lived 45 minutes from the closest actual town. So from having to drive out there to work 3 days, he was also taking me out on dates and to look for a job.
After being together for about 5 months we picked out a studio apartment closer to where we both were going to be working, signed the lease, and moved in together. At 9 months he proposed, and a year and a half later we're now having a baby!
Couldn't have asked for better. My fiancé is my best friend and my biggest supporter.
We met at hooters. Seriously. I had friends in the current play at the college we both went to and they invited me to the cast party afterwards on Friday night. We accidently played footsie under the table and got to talking when everyone went to someone's place later. We hit it off immediately and kissed later that night. I came to see the show the next night and hung out with everyone again. We fell asleep on a friend's couch. We went on our first date a week later and have been together for nearly 9 years, married for 3 and are expecting our first child. Definitely understand that sappy chick flick love at first sight thing.
Junior High. He was in the same homeroom as my best friend, and I had an instant crush on him that lasted, unwavering, for the next three years. We ended up going to different High Schools and it wasn't until years later when a girlfriend dragged me to some stupid backyard party that I ran into him again. We hooked up in his car that night (shame), and we've been a thing ever since. 10 years and about to be 3 babies later.
A mutual friend set us up, but we didn't know it was happening. My friend from college invited me to play quizzo with his friends from law school at a bar. Well, we dominated at quizzo! Turns out we won more than the game that night. I guess my husband and I both think smart is sexy! We are due to have this baby just about 8 years after the day we met. The winning team would get it's photo taken, so I have a pic from the night we met, which is pretty cool!
That is the sanitized version. The messier version includes lots of booze, making out, realizing at some point that he didn't know my name, and my sarcastic retort that we were clearly meant to get married and that one day I would tell our kids about how their father in the midst of making out with their mother didn't know her name. Oops.
FYI--quizzo is a bar trivia game, in case that's not a thing outside of Philly.
We both taught at the same high school - I was a teacher and he was a paraprofessional in our behavior academy. I'll never forget the first time I saw him... I was sitting at my desk grading on my off period and I randomly look out into the courtyard and see him with a student in a headlock dragging the kid back in the building (DH was a d1 wrestler, and this student was trying to escape)!
We started hanging out in big group settings and I remember telling my BFF that it was "never going to happen." I thought he was a huge meathead. After a few weeks I figured out he was one of the sweetest, most caring meatheads. Been together 6 years, married for 3 with baby #2 on the way!
We met in high school I was 15 he was 17 and started dating. We moved in together two years later. We had our first when I was 24 , #2 when I was 27 and can't wait to meet number #3 !!!
We met out at a bar, wasted, on New Years Eve. I was there with a different guy ... Oops.
The next day I got a text that said, "do you remember me?" I didn't really, I said, "yea, you were wearing a light blue shirt." He said, "it was green, close enough" ha
That was 5 years, a wedding and a baby ago. We're so excited to have #2 on the way.
I always say we need to come up with a better story, my parents met at Bible camp.
We met in high school Sophomore year. He moved to our school at the end of the year and everyone was so obsessed with him. He was dating my best friend at the time. It's kind of a long story but they broke up, he dated another girl I was good friends with, that went south, she was going to tell him she was pregnant, I knew she wasn't. I tried to tell him she wasn't really pregnant and we got in a huge fight. Two years later he messaged me and apologized. We started dating after a few weeks and I knew immediately he was the one I would marry. And we did! April 27th 2015 This child was conceived when we got home from our "honeymoon" lol
Match.com. We both had been on lots of dates on match and knew how the process went. We sent several messages the first day and he called me that night. He was the first person I felt was being genuine off the bat. We talked for hours the first night. Our first date was really intense. I kissed him within minutes of meeting him. It's was magical from the first date!
His frat had an end-of-the-year luau that I attended. This other guy in his frat was really wasted and trying to hit on me, and ended up burning me with a cigarette. I ran to the bar to escape him, and there was DH. I don't know if it was love at first sight, but I thought he was the most adorable thing I had ever seen...he had rosy cheeks, which I found irresistible! I took my first ever tequila shot with him while we were at the bar. He was really shy and soft-spoken, but the tequila loosened him up. I even have a picture from that night. It was their big party, so they had a photographer there. This was 10 years ago!
I was really close with his brother and his brother purposely kept us from meeting because my dh "would break my heart and we would never last". I finally met him and from that first night I knew he was the one. I stayed over on day three and never left! We've been together for 15, married 13, and this is baby #3. I still love to tease his brother about how wrong he was.
Nothing fancy, but we met through mutual friends in May 2011. We were both not interested in dating (he just separated from his wife and I had a hookup go bad). We started hanging out regularly and soon started dating. Married in May 2015
My bff, like totes loved him but he didn't, so I like called him an ass. 6 months later she didn't like him but I totally did!!! and he liked me!! ">
In all seriousness, we did meet in 8th grade and started "dating". We were both really shy but just knew we had found "the one". We stayed together all through high school, got engaged shortly after graduating, married two years later, and expecting #2 now! Been together 12 years and just celebrated 6 year wedding anniversary. I've almost been with him longer than I haven't which seems so crazy!
I feel like mine is sort of complicated. As a teenager I was dating this total asshole for about 4 years. We broke up (he's a cheater...and many other things). About a year later, my now DH, messages me on Facebook and I blew him off for a few months. We had lots of mutual friends and I knew his sister. Ready for it.... He was my mean ex boyfriend's brother's finance's brother! So his sister that I knew is actually my ex boyfriend's sister in law. While I was dating my ex... I always liked his now sister in law. He never did of course. But I didn't know she had a brother. After a few months of blowing him off... I finally went on a date and now here we are. My husband was asking his sister if she knew of any single girls and she told him about me. So that's how it happened!
We had study hall together in 10th grade and everyday he would ask me for my homework so he could copy it. That was his excuse to talk to me. We started hanging out as a group with friends and he finally asked me out. We dated for 6 years before getting married. Married one year already with our first on the way
We actually met in college. Classic cliché, he was a basketball player and I was a cheerleader. We were at a party and were both pretty socially awkward/Quiet, and just clicked. We were the only DD's for our friends and it was a nice change of pace. Turns out, my sister dated hi very close neighbor for about 6years so we had actually been at many functions together and never really took notice to each other!
OP, you made me spit my lemonade EVERYWHERE...haha!
Aww what a cute thread. I love reading your stories! I met my DH when I was 13, and had a huge crush on him in high school. He was two years older but we became good friends through our school's theater department, I was in all of the plays and he built the sets. I actually went to the prom with his identical twin and he went with one of my friends. About nine years after high school I moved back to my hometown and we reconnected. We were at a friend's party one night and I blurted out to him that I used to be in love with him when we were kids. We sat in his car and talked for 3 hours reminiscing and listening to our mutual favorite band Alkaline Trio. Then we dated for 2 years, got engaged, and married a year later. We just celebrated our first anniversary in June. We luckily still have a lot of the same mutual friends from high school which is so much fun.
