DIY Nursery Crafts

hi everyone,
I have been brainstorming nursery craft ideas. I was wondering if anyone is working on any crafts for the nursery or other projects for your baby? Or do you have any pictures or links to ideas that you like? I would love to hear what everyone is working on! I just finished making an origami mobile.
I can't wait to see everyone's crafts!

  • We are making most of our blankets.. We tried to make a crib and that was an epic fail. I made a small latch hook rug and it looks pretty cool.. It's just blue but it's cute lol @kmd91 that looks really good!!! And bigger is better!! It looks super nice :)

Nothing big yet, but I want to paint wooden letters spelling her name in the nursery's theme colors. We rent so we can't paint walls and they're just tan so I'd like to add some color to the room.
  • I'm planning on trying to make a mobile, but I've made no progress so far. Once baby is here, I told DH he has to make a nightlight with baby's initial (can't do it before because we're team green and our chosen names start with different letters).

I am in love with that mobile! Tiny humans room is going to be adventure and travel (planes, trains, hot air balloons, maps etc.).
  • Anybody have any cool ideas for a lion king themed room?? I keep trying to figure one out but I can't seem to.. I'm thinking about doing another latch hook rug but doing a simba silhouette in the middle.. What do you ladies think?

@jellybug8402 thank you! It was pretty easy to make and cost us $20 total! We also added a map. I got it off of amazon. It has a sticky back so I put it on a canvas.
GAH! Do you by any chance have the link for that listing on Amazon?!?!? I love that it has a sticky back, would save me a lot of embarrassing moments that are inevitable if I have to use glue on a large surface at this point lol. My level of clumsy has reached an all time high lately.
  • I made a few boppy pillows (one for the nursery, one for my room, and one for the living room), I made a small carseat quilt, and I'm almost done with the baby's kid-sized quilt, made from my and DH's old jeans. I've got some paintings in mind but haven't gotten started yet.
  • @queenwog what size did you make the car seat blanket? I have wanted to make one but didn't know what the best measurements would be

Here is the link. You can actually stick it right to the wall if you want. It's also dry erase.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00408AAB2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1437435607&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX200_QL40&keywords=world+map&dpPl=1&dpID=51I7h43fH8L&ref=plSrch

ETA: I tried to use just a regular paper world map and mod podge it on the canvas. It did not turn out well at all and had to remove it. The sticky map you can pull it up a couple of times to get the air bubbles out.

I think it's about 2'x2'. I've made them for my sister's kids, too, and they're a good size for tucking around baby without too much bulky or extra blanket hanging off everywhere.
  • @MoRay05 i love that mobile! We're doing adventure too, but more "storybook" (princesses and pirates and dinosaurs... I'm a bit indecisive). Looks so cute! And the map- great touch!

Thanks! I got them off of zulily a couple of weeks ago. Hobby Lobby had some a little larger. They are made of tin.
  • Painted a canvas of our names for her room. :)

I love the metallic gold(and your names!). I bought metallic gold Martha Stewart craft paint and it's so light it barely looks metallic. Ah!
  • We are going to be making a wooden growth chart (one that looks like a ruler) and I am going to make something with baby's name. I love Pinterest. It gives me so many ideas.
  • I plan on making a couple of blankets, and some letters to go above my little peanut's crib, she's sharing my bedroom so her "nursery" theme goes with how my room is decorated for now.

Here's my projects so far. A origami crane mobile and crochet hat and blanket. I took a class at Michaels craft to learn to crochet. Best decision ever!!

What pattern did you use for the hat? It is so cute! I can not find one I like and I love the one you made.
  • I knit and crochet. I've got a few outfits in mind for this LO and I started a blanket but decided I didn't like it! So I'm now on the lookout for a great blanket pattern suitable for a boy or a girl. I've always got at least 3 projects on the go, which doesn't help...

Thanks! It was pretty easy. I bought an embroidery hoop and painted it white. The tin airplanes already had a little ring to tie to and I cut out the clouds out of leftover white fabric. The hardest part was tying the fishing line. My DH had to use some kind of camping rope knot to make it stay.

@BetsyLettsy we are doing something very similar with the wooden alphabet! I'm not very crafty so the closest thing I could come up with is painting these yellow gray and white to go in our nursery. The O is missing from the pic but I bought a round wooden disk and am going to drill 4 holes in it to look like a button.

I want to do this for the kids playroom..how much did the letters cost you?
  • I think I paid around $65 for all of it. Some of the smaller letters are cheaper than the larger ones but I did a mix. I had a 25% off the entire purchase coupon that I used at JoAnn Fabrics but if you had the 40% or 50% off one regular priced item you could get them cheaper. I just don't have the patience to buy them one at a time! They had other larger options but those were more expensive than the ones I picked out.

I bought them from etsy as a set. I think with shipping they were $85. They have slimmer sets made of MDF that are less.
  • I knit a blanket for all my children, we are re-using a basinet made new mattress covers. Found a free layout, wrote his full name, printed, framed it.  He's side of the bedroom is Monkeys. It'zs always great to see other ideas, ladies you are all doing beautiful, unique things for your LOs

  • I love looking at other people's projects. So many creative moms on here! I made a bird mobile for our baby and have also knitted a bunch of sweaters. It's lucky this baby will be coming during the winter months!
