You should definitely check with your OB. There is a lidocaine 2% gel but you should see if your OB thinks it's safe first. Also, I'm not sure if it's approved or not for internal use. I'm pretty sure it's just for external.

ETA: @bostonbaby1 my main issue with you is your insistence that grape seed oil is superior to coconut oil.  Everyone knows that is a false statement.

This isn't for sexual pleasure!!! We are genuinely trying to preventing tearing and have a better birth experience! And sweetie, science proves that DH's penis can't poke the baby, so I seriously doubt his fist could either!!

@magburt I read about it on another pregnancy site.  I think it was baby center?  You should look these thing up before you chime in and discourage other bumpies who this technique might help.

The sexual side of it is just bonus! The long term effects are what I'm after. Vaginal birth terrifies me. Anything to make it easier and I'm going to try it!

So my doctor suggested beginning fisting as soon as I hit the second trimester. He said that if done properly the baby pretty much falls out when the time is right so it'll be a lot easier on my body. Hubby was skeptical at first but after trying the olive oil as lube with it he's really opened up to the whole process. I really didn't know this was common knowledge. I'm so glad I'm not the only one! Do y'all have any special techniques or anything? My husband pretty much just goes for it. We are hoping one day his foot will fit so we can try "footing" as it loosens things up even more. I'm so glad so many of us are getting a head start on this!

It's REALLY important to make sure you stay relaxed throughout the whole thing!! My BF has very large hands and when we tried I tensed up, and it actually got STUCK for like 20min! We had to butter up his wrist to get that thing out!! Done with stretching for a little while, phew!

I'm with @magburt on this one. Everyone knows the baby can get punched and if you don't know that then you should. And if you're going to do it at home for goodness sake, use grapeseed oil! Sure, there are other natural oils out there, but nobody else can tell me what is best for my body. I'm very in tune with my body so I know what's best!

Yeah. So EXCUSE YOU! This baby was immaculately conceived in a Denny's bathroom under the guidance of my holistic doula and Vinnie the line cook. No sheets were used and he will be delivered under the full moon on a bed of clover and sedge grass.

I definitely agree with @magburt. I told my husband that there is no sex in any way until well after baby is OUT! I even chose my doula because she said she would tell him that. I mean, who knows what could happen?! I just cannot allow my SO's penis to hurt our unborn child. But a fist?! No way. I love my baby way too much to harm her in such a horrible way!
