So I drank 5 beer and feel nothing... how do I know when it's ok to nurse?
I'd wait until that is out of your system. My max for nursing is two beers but that's partially because I am a small person. I try not to nurse for 2-3 hours after I have that. It's not that LO gets much alcohol at all but their livers are immature. Better safe than sorry, I would wait until morning if it was me.
I'd wait too, but I have a very low tolerance - I had one glass of wine last night and was feeling it, haha. But, I do think I remember the nurse from my breastfeeding class saying that you should treat it as you would for driving, allow one hour for each drink you've had before nursing again.
Like I said, I have a lower tolerance than most, and I drink infrequently, so I'm probably not the most qualified to answer this. But if it were me, if I had 5 beers and stopped drinking at midnight, I'd wait until at least 5 AM.
I remember someone posting a recipe for a lactation smoothie recently but I can't find it! Anyone want to share their favorites? Also looking for healthier lactation cookie recipes if anyone has any (without the 3+ cups worth of butter and sugar!).

I just put a recipe on the diet restriction thread. I created it to get rid of the butter entirely. They are actually still really good. Not sure what qualifies as a lactation cookie but these ate mostly oats. You cut probably cut 1/2 the sugar with no ill effects.
1/3 c oats uncooked 1 T Brewers Yeast (reduced bitterness) 1 T flax seed meal 1 T honey (optional) 1/2 c yogurt 1 C Almond milk (or cows) 1 frozen banana 1/2-1 C frozen fruit
So, I feel like I can't figure out how to go out and get things like errands done with LO. He can only stay up about an hour before he starts to fuss and get tired. About 30 minutes of that time is nursing. He won't sleep on the go (he cries and cries in the car if he is tired but won't sleep) so I feel like we have to stay at home all the time. What am I missing?

Can you wear him? My LO will cry in the car unless it's moving. I've taken her grocery shopping twice while she's in the Baby Bjorn. You may want to experiment with different carriers if you haven't found one LO likes. Mine hates the Eddie Bower one and is so so with the Moby wrap. You may start by just taking a walk with LO in it to get acclimated, then work up to doing errands.

We had to build up to it. As PP said, we started with walks in the carrier, then extended our time out. Now LO can be out most of the day, and seems to enjoy it much more than being home. It took him and me a month+ to work up to that.
So my friends just rented out a spare room in their apartment to someone who wants to be in the city when the Pope comes to Philadelphia. Thinking about renting out my apartment that weekend and maybe even the week since we aren't even living there. Is that totally tacky?
Getting nervous over here! DH and I said that when we run out of diapers we got as gifts we would switch over to cloth diapers. We just opened our last pack of diapers so it will be happening very soon. I'm nervous though because we haven't figured out a way to get rid of the poop. My original plan was to breast feed, and the poop is water soluble, so we weren't going to have to worry about it. Things have changed and now we're formula feeding. We don't have a utility sink to rinse them out in, so I'm not really sure what we're going to do. DH is all gung ho about doing this, but I don't think he's thought through the logistics.

I was super gung ho too but to be honest I'm definitely doing <50% cloth because of the hassle of not having a laundry machine in our apartment. If it doesn't gross you out what I've been doing is just scrubbing out the poop with my hands and then letting the diapers soak in cold water for a few hours - you're supposed to soak them before washing anyway (on do an extra rinse cycle in the washer first) so I just fill the bathtub with a few inches of water and leave them in there.. Then I ring them out and they can go in the wet bag until I'm ready to do a load of wash, every other day of so.. I did lots of online reading and even tried to hand wash them in the bathtub once but that was just way too much.. I'm breastfeeding so I worry a little less about the poop, but poop is poop haha another thing I found is that the one-size ones that I have are super annoying so I am slowly trying to switch over to fitteds with covers.. Unfortunately I bought 25 one-size pocket diapers while I was pregnant Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions! LO tolerates the carrier for about an hour max. Do you make sure to wear your LOs long enough for a full hour or longer nap or just for as long as the shopping trip lasts? That's where I have the biggest issue. If I just need paper towels at target, I don't want to be there an hour wandering around so he doesn't wake up. If he just sleeps for ten minutes and I wake him to put him in the car, he will have a serious meltdown.
^^i just wear her for the shopping trip (about 45min) or on our walks. Sometimes I just wear her around outside while DS plays. Some days are better than others, but she generally falls asleep.
In other news...LO is engaging with her toys on her playmat now. Pulling on the rings and trying to put the frog leg in her mouth.
Is anyone bathing with their baby? My DH insists on doing this instead of buying a tub but LO ends up crying at the end of it every time. Worried he's going to get a bath phobia or something. I think the water is too cold. Anyone go warmer then the recommendations or have other suggestions? I hate baths so don't want to take over on this one. I just want a tub to wash my baby in
I have to keep reminding myself that most of your babies are older than mine, sometimes by almost a whole month. I keep reading what is going on with someone else's baby and I'm like 'my kid isn't doing that yet!' or 'we're at the stage we need to think about that now?' and then I realize I'm comparing my 9 week old to someone's 12 week old. Which, 3 weeks is not that much, but developmentally can be pretty significant. Getting anxiety over here, lol #:-S
@virginiaunicorn11 hoping by then (sept 25-27) all of valuables will be out. Plus we'd ask for security and all that stuff. I've been reading about it all morning lol

I do. I sit criss cross and lay her in my lap in about 5 or 6 inches of water. It doesn't take long enough for the water to cool. She likes it way better than a sink bath. I've never bought a baby bath tub, they take up too much space for something you only use for a few months. I actually have no idea what the temperature guidelines are. I just go with warm-not-hot. It's not like she's going to boil with me in there. I don't think you have to worry about a phobia, either. Just cause they like/dislike something now doesn't mean they'll like/dislike it even a month from now.
Does he play with the baby in the tub? Maybe wash LO first, then play, so he can get out as soon as the crying starts.
we finally got rain here! the sky is clear, theres no visible smoke anymore, you can see outside again! hooray! hopefully it helped put out the washington fires so the smoke wont migrate back here.

Are you using a car? If I'm using the car, or if I am walking but know LO is going to nap, I use his Click Connect car seat and stroller so I don't need to take him out of the car seat. I keep the Bjorn in the stroller basket so I can wear him if he gets fussy in the stroller. But I agree, it's hard to move a sleeping babe from carrier to car seat - which is why I like the seat/stroller combo.
Sometimes I just have to wake him and just deal with his crying. But that's usually car seat related. DH says the kid can't rule our lives, so when he's around, LO gets wakened more :-/
Also: I took my kid to lunch with a friend yesterday, and I had the car seat. The waitress offered me a high chair and I said, "No, he's still too young." Then she showed me how, if you turn it upside down, the car seat can sit on top at table level. Mind. Blown.
I'm probably the last to learn this, but thought it was awesome, so I'm sharing just in case...
ETA: this was one of those standard wooden high chairs found in so many restaurants

Just a heads up, my pediatrician warned us not to let servers do this. Although many restaurants do it, the high chairs are NOT designed for this and it throws off the center of gravity, which poses safety risk. In college, I worked at chili's and we had slings specifically designed for car seats, and though many customers wanted to use the high chairs upside down because that was what they'd done at other restaurants, our managers always said not to out of fear of a lawsuit.
Many people do use the high chairs upside down without issue, but, based on my experience with working in a restaurant and my pediatrician's advice, it's not something I personally am comfortable with. Obviously there are varying opinions on it, but since this seems to be the first you'd heard of it I wanted to give you another perspective. Would hate for your little one to get hurt!

Check the back first if you're going to try it. If it's totally flat, you might be ok. Some have a raised back and that makes them less stable. We usually skip it but have done it a couple of times.
We actually don't use the upside down high chair, but only because we want to be able to rock the carseat. So we always put LO on the booth seat next to one of us (DH takes this honor) or if we are sitting at a free table with chairs we each sit sharing a corner and LO goes on the ground at that corner, so either of us can nudge the carrier with our foot to rock it. Or on the table if its big enough, but a freestanding table for two usually isn't
Yikes, thanks y'all! I will keep just refusing the high chair then.
Do y'all strap your LO into the car seat any other time than when you're driving? We never strap him in when we are using it as a stroller or chair because it makes him scream. Obviously, we have to just deal with that when we are driving, but otherwise, no. Am I unwittingly making more huge safety errors?
@virginiaunicorn11 if using the car seat in the stroller definitely buckle him in. If using as a seat on the floor I wouldn't worry too much right now about buckling because he can't squirm out of it. I forget when but once he starts moving around more you'll want to buckle all the time even if on the floor because he can wiggle out. If you think about it, if you leave him unbuckled while using as a stroller then if you go off a curb/sidewalk he could fall out if you hit a bump or something.
I always buckle her in. Not because I'm crazy about safety but because I can definitely see myself forgetting to buckle if we transition to the car from whatever we were doing with her in the car seat. I just do it for piece of mind so I don't ever have to ask myself if she's buckled in.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
@virginiaunicorn11 dont feel bad, I didn't know it wasn't ok to put LO in his car seat on the front part of the shopping cart. Then, my mom says yeah the basket fits the seat perfectly. I thought she meant on the top of the basket and LO went feet first (strapped in) down into the cart. To make it worse the top flipped over with him and I couldn't get him out quickly. I had to wiggle the top loose. He had that "holy crap" face but was safe and sound. Ubber fail!!! I need an effing stroller.
I also use the wooden high chair. Who says STMs have anything under control. I still make tons of stupid mistakes. It's like I've never done this. Thus further proving our bump community is a life saver this time around!!!

I unbuckle mine when we're eating and sometimes when I'm strolling. My LO doesn't even mind being buckled but I feel like it's so tight. I guess I'll rethink this...good question!

You are far from the only mom to use the high chair upside down without thinking about it! It's a pretty common safety mistake to make, when I worked at Chili's I'd have at least one mom a day who'd want to do it.
I always buckle LO into her car seat because on mine there are huge warnings all over it saying that if you don't buckle them there's a strangulation risk. I think that risk is pretty low because my eyes aren't off of her for long enough for anything like that to happen (except for in the car, obviously), but I'm pretty paranoid about something happening to her so I try to follow all of those instructions. She also screams while being buckled in, which I feel bad about, but I'd rather have a royally PO'd baby than one who's hurt so I deal with it.

Too well!! I have to be careful not to splash all over. It's the Bumgenius one which looks pricier on Amazon then what we paid
ETA to say I don't know why I didn't think about cross legged in the tub. We are going to try that instead of down our legs
So, apologies to the mother of twins on here for saying, "I've always wanted twins." Forget who I said it to, but yeah...
Mind. Blown.
