My DH is making fun of me for complaining about my nausea and vomiting when I said I never imagined it would be this bad. He asked me to poll you guys and see what the worst part was, from beginning to end.

Re: STM: What was the worst part of the entire pregnancy and why?

  • Post partum because I was recovering from a c section and had two newborns to care for. Overall, I had a great pregnancy aside from the awful SPD and bedrest.

  • Third trimester! I was miserably huge and I had my under 1 year old daughter to carry and care for. I was exhausted and peeing 3-4 times a night! Post partum is a close second, especially peeing after my surgery. I was shaking in the bathroom unable to pee and the nurses kept bullying me to pee or I'd have to endure the catheder (sp?) all over again. Then I'd stand up and it felt like my inside were about to fall out. I couldn't laugh, cough or move without pain.

  • Definitely the first trimester for me. The constant nausea and exhaustion is so hard & awful. I felt more like myself during the second trimester. The main thing I remember about the third trimester was feeling like I couldn't catch my breath and achy hips at night.

  • I had a terrible delivery with my first, and almost chose that. But my second baby's delivery was a million times better (thanks hypnobabies!), so I didn't.

First trimester is by FAR the worst trimester for me. I'd rather take a year of 3rd trimester than 12 weeks of first.

  • Horrible reflux that would choke me in my sleep and caused asthma attacks. Stopped as soon as I gave birth.

  • First tri was by far the worst. Second and third tri was magical even when it was uncomfortable. I loved my pregnant belly, I liked talking to people about it, it was just awesome. Delivery was rough so that would be second place for worst time (36 hours of labor that ended in an unplanned c-section), but the actual surgery and recovery was easy peasy.

  • First tri was the worst last time with the nausea, exhaustion, headaches, and vomiting . Second tri I felt great and third was a little uncomfortable at times (toward the end especially) with the sciatic problem and just feeling like I couldn't get any bigger but I was still sleeping ok and even out hiking 3 days before I gave birth! Delivery went pretty good and post partum was hard for the 1st few days but having a newborn baby to look at all the time made it so much better.
  • First by far! Second was actually really great. Third gets rough toward the end but the prize is in sight. I had decent deliveries and postpartum.

  • Post pardem depression was the pits. Third trimester with all its heart burn etc etc was a close second.
  • I had an easy pregnancy with no issues. Post partum was the worst. I had no understanding of the discomfort of healing from tearing, how exhausting it was not to sleep, and my uncontrollable appetite with nursing.

  • Honestly my first pregnancy was pretty much a breeze - I had morning sickness but it literally only happened in the morning and I was fine for the rest of the day, it went away at 12 weeks. Delivery was super easy - labored for 10 hrs, broke my water and delivered 15 mins later with no tearing, so post partum was easy for me as well. This pregnancy has been way different so I'm interested to see how the rest compares!

  • Probably post partum.  I had very bad PPD.  It was terrible

  • Post partum definitely. 4th degree tear, healing was a b!tch. Attempting to breastfeed and pumping was horrible, and I cried all the time for the first two months because adjusting to being a mother was hard as hell.

Definitely first trimester due to significant nausea and trying to hide the pregnancy was stressful in addition constipation and bloating are simply uncomfortable post partum can be challenging if you breastfeed but you have a beautiful baby to offset the struggles just know it's all worth it
  • Post partum, had 27 staples after my c section almost passed out trying to walk to the bathroom after they took my catheder out, trying to breastfeed and all the visitors just wasn't fun at all.

I really have no complaints. I have not gotten past 1st trimester. Last 2 pregnancies ended before. I think 1st tri because it is that waiting period... am I going to miscarry?? Am I not? I know I can still miscarry later in pregnancy but it is less likely. So this is the worst for me!

  • Third trimester. I say this because it just gets so uncomfortable. As a FTM, it wasn't really that bad. But now that I have a little ones, the third trimester definitely takes a toll and the "belly" gets in the way. And at least with DD, she was all shoved up near my ribs and made it uncomfortable to sit in a regular position, and just blah. By 3rd tri, I'm just over it and ready. :)

3rd tri is just miserable. My boys were so low I felt my uterus was going to fall out when I walked.

  • I say first trimester because I have such a hard time functioning with the morning sickness. Third trimester would be my third choice because I get out of breath really bad. Sitting, laying, standing, it doesn't matter. I can't breathe. 2nd place goes to pooping pp. It wasn't bad with my last baby, but my first was horrible. Like I was in the bathroom for 30 minutes crying bad.

  • The last two weeks. I hurt standing up, sitting down, laying down etc. I couldn't sleep and had no idea when the baby would come. Labor sucked too. I still have flash backs when I have a bad period cramp. Not looking forward to that again.

  • So hard to pick, I am between 3tr and PP. I had a really difficult time with my Csection and had to have it opened 5 days PP so recovery was a nightmare with a NB- but 3rd tri in the dead middle of summer was HELL, pure HELL.

  • I'm definitely torn between first tri and the last bit of time. First tri was rough with both my previous pregnancies, but especially bad with my son. Third tri was complete hell with my son though, I was in preterm labor the entire trimester on and off. Spent two nights in the hospital around 34wks. I was also in the most pain of my entire life,he was so big and it was so incredibly painful to carry him. I didn't sleep for months and I could not get comfortable in any position.

First tri! The rest there was just discomfort and reflux

You get used to no sleep.... I actually slept less pregnant and got more sleep once she was born
  • Third tri for me. Specifically the last 6-8 weeks. Everything is extremely uncomfortable. Horrible heartburn happens regardless of what is eaten or when. Don't even think about stretching to attempt some semblance of comfort because the leg cramps hurt like a mo-fo. Felt like I wasn't going to fit through the door because I'm bigger than the whole house. And sleep? What's sleep? Slept better after baby was born.

  • I voted post partumn because it t very hard to adjust to the new schedule with all of the emotions and after the birthing process and healing on to my f it. 3rd tri was a close second. I was hugely swollen had carpel tunnel needed a knee brace to alleviate sciatic pain and to wear a nose stop at night to be able to breath. It was awful.

  • I said third tri, but PP was rough, too.

Third tri symptom wise I had severe SI joint issues that made it painful to move and work, plus I ended up with pregnancy induced carpal tunnel and had difficulty with fine motor stuff. The belly and feeling baby made up for it.

Post partum I had no concept of such sleep deprivation. You really don't have any idea until you go through it. Combined with the pain of a c/s and a late term preemie with breastfeeding issues, sometimes I wonder how we survived.

It seems the only thing we agree on is 2nd tri was great!

PP was worst for me. Between c/s healing (I was an idiot who refused meds) and the BF schedule, I got sleep in 20 minute intervals for three weeks. I was barely functioning.

This time around, I'm only 7 weeks, but the last three weeks have been very exhausting and m/s has sucked. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing for all of us soon!
  • It's a tie, postpardum was extremely difficult because I had severe anxiety(not depression) and panic attacks for no reason. Also my whole pregnancy I had terrible cluster migraines that would last for days. Basically everyday I had a headache with 2-3 migraines a week. And when you can only take Tylenol you get no relief
  • Postpartum for me. I had really bad anxiety during the delivery and it caused me problems for a few weeks after. Also had bad postpartum anxiety and some depression.

  • First tri was the worst. You feel tired and nauseated all the time. You also have the anxiety of not knowing if everything is going the way it should. Second tri is a total breeze. Third tri isn't bad until the last month or so when you are huge, can't sleep and are over it. Labor wasn't fun but the countdown was on to leer your LO. PP is harder than you think it will be. It was extremely hard to adjust to being in so much pain having a fourth degree tear, being so sleep deprived and having this little person relying on you.

I could have written this, minus the tear. I had an unplanned c-section instead. But the crying was out of control.
  • Third trimester for me, BUT I got really lucky and never had morning sickness in the first trimester so I was only dealing with exhaustion. In the second trimester I got a lot of migraines, and that was pretty miserable. By the third trimester though I was ready to be done. My baby never stop moving, so I rarely slept. My hips and lower back were ridiculously sore, so I could never get comfortable. Then I got horrible heartburn/reflux. I kept waking up with stomach acid in my mouth from the reflux, and it was awful. I also had a complicated pregnancy, so I was going to the doctor weekly in the third trimester. I just was not amused by the 3rd trimester at all.

  • Pp for sure! You spend 9 months getting used to pregnancy and hormones and ick. Then suddenly it's all over and you have this tiny little screaming, pooping, puking, beautiful person that is completely yours and all you want to do is cry and sleep. I'm really not looking forward to that part.

First trimester by far. With my daughter I threw up several times a day and several times all night from 6 weeks up until about 12 weeks. It was pure misery. If I wasn't htrowing up, I was sleeping. I couldn't keep down anything except peanut butter sandwiches, little Debbie swiss cake rolls and mango smoothies. Honestly the second trimester wasn't my favorite either. I was nauseated the entire time and had sciatica. I felt pretty great my third even through I was gigantic lol. Childbirth was hard but the most awesome thing I've ever done so I'm actually looking forward to that part again
  • Third trimester! I just could not get a good night sleep! People kept telling me, "Oh, just wait till the baby gets here if you think sleep is bad now." And guess what!? I slept ten times better even with a newborn to tend to in the middle of the night! But, first trimester was rough too.
  • PP was most difficult for me. Recovery from a csection was not fun and I was in a fair amount of pain for the first 2 weeks. That, in addition to sleep deprivation and a touch of PPD. First trimester wasn't fun due to some nausea (seem to be feeling about the same this time around) but overall I had a very easy pregnancy.
  • First trimester was awful! I had hyperemesis, which lasts the entire pregnancy. I was exhausted, constipated, and miserable. I was on pelvic rest or bed rest through 20 weeks. This go around, minimal nausea but insane exhaustion. So good news is every pregnancy really is different! I also had a difficult postpartum recovery, but just about anything beats round the clock nausea and throwing up 10 times a day!
