Baby Names

nickname of Scottie??

My husband was watching a tv show where there is a female character named Scottie.  He thought it was a cute name.  I agreed that it was a cute nickname, but that it is not a proper name for a female child.  Can you think of any girl names that would lend itself to Scottie as a nickname.  The only thing that came to my mind, but might be too much of a stretch is Scarlett.

    Was he watching Suits? :)

I am pretty sure her nickname was based off the character's last name.  I really can't think of anything.

  • Hmmm.

    Scarlett could work.

Unfortunately, there aren't really many other names that start Sc.

I mean, Scholastica and Scherezade are both too awesome to nickname Scottie.

I would also guess it's either related to her last name, or her heritage.

He was!  I don't watch the show so I didn't really know much about it.  I'm all for having a fun creative nickname, but you need a real name you can put on a resume!
  • You could always pull a Kourtney Kardashian and name her Scotland! (I think it's her daughter's middle name.) But, really, don't do it. Haha.

    Scarlett could work, though!

Definitely see what you're saying, and agree.  It's just tricky because even in that case, it was based off a last name not a first name (I looked it up and the character's name is actually Dana Scott).  And this is one of those rarer occasions where there isn't a female form of a male name.  Scarlett might be your best bet.

Okay, so I just learned Scholastica is a name!

Also, for some reason I immediately thought Battlestar Scholastica

I just saw Scota/Scotta a few times, not sure how legitimate it is though

Edit: note: apparently it's a name from Irish mythology as well
  • I like Scarlett a lot. I would say go with that.
  • One of my cousins named their daughter Scotland....14 years ago.
