Soft Cervix @ 33 weeks!

This question is mainly for women who have been pregnant before and with a similar experience. I went to the doctor for a check up yesterday. I informed them I had been feeling low pelvic pressure and felt like baby was lower than she normally is. My doctor checked me and while my cervix is still closed she said it is soft which she claimed isn't good at 33 weeks. I'm so scared of delivering my daughter early and was wondering if any other moms experienced this but didn't go into labor as early as I'm thinking I will. Today, I feel the same as yesterday. BH contractions, lower pelvic pressure and her movements are lower than normal. It makes me very nervous. So I'm hoping to receive a little guidance as what I can do to prevent early L&D and maybe some reassurance.

  • What did your doctor say?  If my doctor told me something "wasn't good", I would be having a long conversation with her.

  • She didn't necessarily say it wasn't good she just said that's not something we want at 33 weeks. I took it as that isn't good...and I'm not far enough along.

This.,Having a soft cervix really doesn't mean much. Only your doctor can tell you what this means for your body. Call your doctor back and get clarification.

  • Ya, I'd definitely call your Dr and ask for further clarification. Maybe he/she can give you some more information or guidance on what to do, what to expect, etc. GL.
  • I had that during my last pregnancy at 33 weeks as well. I delivered at 37w 4d. So not a huge deal considering term is technically 37 weeks.

Call your doctor. Anytime I am worried about my health - I call my doctor.

Well, you said she said it wasn't good.  Call her.

  • I just had a check up Tuesday and my dr said my cervix is soft but I'm not dilated. I'm 35 weeks and she didn't have any concern .
  • I had false labor at 29 weeks and the doctor said my cervix was soft. I am now almost 36. I haven't had it checked again, but she's still in there. Good luck!
  • Kind of crappy for your doctor to say "that's not something we like to see" and let you go on your way. I would call the doctor back and get more answers.
