TTC after 35

HSG test just done, and wow

That hurt.  I mean, it hurt a lot.  I was crying, biting my hand.

I understand that for a lot of people, it's only uncomfortable, so don't get scared if you're planning on doing this-- maybe it just hurt this bad for me!  But it hurt so much, I thought I was going to throw up.

Fortunately, as soon as it was over, I felt okay.  And was cheered up by learning that I didn't have a blockage.  The dye did get stuck for a minute on the left side, but after I rolled a bit and more dye injected, it cleared on out.  So I've got the good news that (1) no blockage, and (2) my tubes are freshly flushed out, so my chances moving forward might improve a bit!  (Every little bit helps)

So I'm mostly in a good mood about it, even though I still feel like I want to curl up and just cry about how rough the experience was.  I've been strictly limiting my alcohol intake (to one drink a month, when AF arrives), but I think I'll make an exception and have a glass of wine tonight.

And I just have to say, here, where people understand... ouch!

  • Oh crud - I forgot about your break @KLake42 (until I read the check-in - busy day at work, so I'll blame my brain dead-ness on that).  I hope NEXT month is your month!! :)

  • That sounds like when I had my IUD put in. My sister and my friend both told me it wouldn't hurt, but I felt like I was having surgery without anesthesia. And then it popped out and the doctor had to start over again. My hands went numb and I got all cold and sweaty and thought I was going to pass out.

What made it even worse was they asked when I got there if I had any medicine that day. I had taken 2 ibuprofin several hours earlier, so they wouldn't give me the pain reliever that one would normally get right before the procedure. X_X

  • @KLake42 - Oh no - sounds like a nightmare!! I've been thinking I should get one done but am worried about the pain (and the cost - I've heard they are expensive!!). Sorry you had to go through that but awesome that there was no bad news. Hope you enjoy this rest cycle before tackling TTC again...

  • @jilligan14- It cost about $600, though I understand that because they lease the equipment at the doctor's office, it's cheaper than it would be somewhere else (when you go to a hospital or something).

But to be honest, even with the pain, it was worth it, and I'd do it again.  I feel a lot more confident in doing more IUIs now because I know there's not a blockage, and I'm hoping that the freshly cleaned tubes will benefit me next month.
