At 19w 4d my baby weighed 14 ounces and we found out were having a boy I'm happy and excited my baby's healthy but its weird cuz iv only gained 5 pounds the whole pregnancy and I'm only showing at night after eating all day everyone tells me I don't look 5 months but I think it's because I'm tall and the baby has a lot of room in there ,its also my first baby :x anyone else having a similar experience
This!!! mine is 12 ounces and I lost 8 pounds during the first trimester and only gained half that back. I'm tall too so I just started getting a little bump </blockquote
I'm 5'8 and weighed 142 at the beginning and I'm now at 147 but the doctor doesn't seem worried at all and says baby is perfectly healthy I guess baby is getting all that he needs, i feel like im not going to gain the 25 lbs maybe that's just the way we are but I did notice I picked up a big appetite this month lol how about you?
@jaybabycakes I'm 5'10", they haven't said anything about not gaining back yet besides "keep eating and drinking" lol. I'm so happy to have my appetite back! My friend didn't gain any weight in her pregnancy until late 2nd tri and ended up gaining almost 50 pounds
@ashsue89 You win the "prize", I believe! Wow! I haven't seen anyone on here besides myself with a baby larger than a pound, but you've got me by 4 oz. They said average was about 12 oz. at 20/21 weeks (I was in btwn weeks), and my boy was 5 oz. beyond that, but they didn't adjust my due date. At least those babies are healthy!
20 weeks 11oz Dr says he looks good and is growing on track. Ive gained about 5 pounds and im growing wide. Would be nice to have a cute little bump like most women but i love the confused looks i get when i say im 5 months along.
At our 20 week scan done at 20w4d, our little princess weighed in at 13oz. At my midwife appointment today, the midwife pretty much said that is a very rough estimate and until baby is out and on a scale, we'll never know her weight. I would never take early estimates as a guide to potential birth weignt. My kids were all estimated to be 8 plus pounds and none of the three made 8 pounds.
wait where do you see what the baby weighed? did the ultra sound tech tell you this or is on a printed copy of the ultrasound?
It's kind of weird, some techs will tell you and some won't. At our 20 week scan, they didn't tell us, but at a follow up at 24 weeks, we were told that she weighs about 1 lb 7 oz. It is probably in your charts, so I am sure you could ask your doc! I was so glad this tech told us because I was curious after the the 20 week scan. We weren't give any percentile though.
I wasn't told anything about the baby's weight at my 20 week scan but even if I was I wouldn't believe it. The scans are not very accurate in determining weight. Before DS#1 was born he was measuring 8 lbs, I had him a few days later 6 lbs 1 ounce. That's about a 2 lb difference! I'm not alone, a lot of people were told one thing on the scan and their baby was no where near that weight when he/ she came out. A friend was told her son was over 10 lbs. he was born 7 and a half lbs ...just my 2 cents
We were told 11 oz at my scan at 18+6. When I went to my OB appointment the next week, she looked in the chart and said "Oh, 87th percentile." I asked if that meant anything in regards to due date. She said sometimes if you're over 90 or 95 they'll adjust it, but it changes week by week so they don't put much stock in the weight right now.
Needless to say I am so happy that my baby boy is HEALTHY since he was originally a twin and I lost the other baby around 12 weeks however I'm just wondering if 10 ounces (a little over half a pound) is a lot right now and will my baby be big? And what size are your babies?!
First, can I say that I am sorry for your loss of one your babies and I am glad that your boy is healthy!!
I am currently pregnant with twins and at 20W0D, baby A weighed 12 oz and baby B weighed 11 oz. I think your baby boy is right on track!!
Ummmm, so this is my first, and at my A/S at 20W5D, baby boy was weighing in at 1 lb 1 oz. I didn't ask about a percentile, but the UT said avg would be about 12 oz at that stage. The doc isn't too concerned, saying that babies hit growth spurts at diff times and he may not continue to grow at the same rate--he did say that genetics play a role. My birth weight was 8 lb 6 oz and MH was 9 lb 5 oz, so I'm pretty sure I'll be having a larger baby.
Almost exactly my situation. My scan was at 20wks6days and I was told baby weighs 1lbs(16oz). I had noticed throughout the scan that whenever the tech measured the key bones the machine would estimate at least 22wks3days and at the end everything was in the 90% percentile. Neither one of us was a giant baby and I know the scans aren't 100% aaccurate. My SIL was advised to deliver early(which she did by c section) for both of of her boys as they were supposed to be giants but they totally weren't. It's just something I'll keep an eye on.
At my 20 weeks scan baby was measuring 11oz and 5 days ahead.. Today at 24 wks 3 days he is measuring 5 days ahead but short little legs and weighing 1 pound 9 ounces.. I have a feeling he will be big because I have only had one kid that was small and that was my first.. 2nd and 3rd closer to 9 pounds .. So I expect big and they are talking about taking him early currently due November 4
Thanks @Pontot31. I don't know that he was saying that they would completely nix the idea of a VB, just that it would give them a better idea of possible course of action. I may have misspoken. But I will definitely keep that advice in mind :-). As I mentioned, I don't want a CS but I'm also terrified to push out a huge baby
I had a 10# 14oz baby vaginally. I tore no more than anyone else I've known (2nd degree). It's less about size and more about position and laboribg down as long as possible before pushing (I actively pushed 3 1/2 hours due to a transverse head). No need to freak out the body is incredibly stretchy and it does go back to normal.

You're my hero. I know my body will do what it needs to do (or at least I hope and pray it will, haha), but it's still a little scary as a FTM. You helped make me feel a little better though!

I promise you I did not know/could not feel how big he was although I was told he would be about 9 pounds based on the scans. No matter the weight it's not going to feel fun. You will be just fine.
