Baby Names

Colette

General feelings?

What if dad's name is Nicholas? I'm not big on naming kids after a parent (seems vain to me) but I didn't realize Colette is a feminized version of the name until I looked up the meaning and saw they were the same. Just musing but I do like the NN Coco for a baby and Letty after that.

Re: Colette

  • When you mentioned Nicholas I immediately thought Nicolette, but to just see Colette by itself I wouldn't make that association.
  • I wouldn't have connected the two.

  • I wouldn't have associated the two. Love Colette, especially with NN Lettie!
  • NMS at all, but I wouldn't make the connection with Nicholas.

  • Beautiful name. I would have never connected it to Nicholas.
  • Love it!

  • I can't lie, I made the connection . Heather from Real Housewives of BH has a son named Nicholas and a daughter named Collette. I rolled my eyes pretty hard at that one. I kind of like a dad named Nicholas and a daughter named Collette. It's cute. You hardly ever see a daughter named after (accidentally or not) her dad!

  • I think it's fine. Not my personal style but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
  • I think it's fine and I love Colette. If the connection keeps bothering you, how about Celeste?

  • I LOVE Colette, it's beautiful. Not a fan of Coco or Lettie at all, the full version is so much prettier. I don't put much stock in pre-determined nicknames, though. They may or may not stick, you just have to see what comes naturally.

Never would've crossed my mind that it was a feminine version of Nicholas.
  • Nicholas and Nicole is too much
Cole and Colette is too much
    Nicholas and Colette is cute

    I love Nicolette!

Edited: I brought it up to my husband and his reply was, "Nicorette like the smoking gum?" Ugh!

Like the name, agree I wouldn't notice the Nicholas connection.

Not crazy about the nicknames but also I think it will be hard for you to bank on one nn as a baby and then changing it as she gets older. The first one could stick, especially if other family members get used to it. Call her a nickname that you like best from the start!

    Colette is lovely!
  • I love Colette! It is our name we have chosen if we ever have a 2nd girl

I made the same connection to Real Housewives of BH, but not the Nicholas-Colette connection. The names sound a little similar, but I wouldn't let that deter me. Heather from Real Housewives also calls her daughter Coco. So chic and cute.
