I need to exercise!! SUGGESTIONS?

FTM I'm 24 weeks and I am so lazy. I only walk my dog and don't have any extra energy to do any other exercise. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can motivate myself? I don't want to gain anymore weight in my legs I refuse. I'm about a size 10 / 12.. And very uncomfortable in shorts. I have quite a bit of cellulite as well. Crying and whining I'm sorry .. Help lol

Re: I need to exercise!! SUGGESTIONS?

  • I haven't been doing much more than that. I just try to walk my dogs longer than normal or an additional block each time throughout the week. I get bored easily so like my husband to come often and goes by faster. If you get in at least 30 mins of continuous walking 4 times a week I think that would better than nothing!

It's easy, effective, and gives you more energy! I love Denise hehe

  • Were you doing any exercise prior to becoming pregnant?  Honestly starting a lot of new things isn't usually recommended while pregnant, they say to continue what your body is used to.

Have you tried longer walks each day to build yourself up? Walking is actually great exercise and one of my favorites with our dogs.  We have bully breed ones and it's always a workout walking/running with them.  If you don't want to extend your walking outside, Leslie Sansone has a walk at home workout that I have done in the past that isn't bad and there are different levels so you can build yourself up.

  • Try swimming!!
  • I second getting in the water. A water work out class or swimming is great exercise. And the water feels great the bigger we get!
  • Swimming! Feels so good for my back and belly.
  • I walk, do zumba (a Dvd at home) and swim. The only toning i do are squats and then i stretch. Some days I'm a total bum but i feel better overall if i work out.

Honestly no I have not. Just walking. I am going to try and make the walks longer. I get over heated and have asthma. So the humidity really bothers me. Il just have to stop often and bring water with me. Il try that Leslie workout in my AC. Thank you!!! I feel so blah lol
  • I've been trying to do the Power 20 Prenatal app videos that someone suggested on here.  They are 20 minutes long and not that strenuous.  I feel like I can do 20 minutes at a time haha.

  • Im doing pregnancy pilates every week (a class) it's amazing!!
  • I go to the gym maybe once a week and can only walk now. Jogging hurts my belly now:(. But my suggestion is a fitbit!! It gets me up any away from my desk at work, it holds me a little more accountable and I have my friends to encourage/motivate me to move.
  • @DeanneBonnie I'm going to try a prenatal pilates class on Tuesday.  I'm excited! It sounds like something I'll really enjoy.  I've done a few prenatal yoga classes, but I find yoga so boring.  I just know how good it is for me so I've been doing it.
  • @Carlymarie021, I would consider doing some walking intervals. If you can't get on a treadmill, that's fine, too! You can find a hill (not too crazy) near you and do some walking where you involve the hill for a stretch of time. You can try to maintain a good pace up the hill and then walk back down. Slightly, not majorly, increasing and decreasing your heart rate with walking up and down hills can be a great work out! Overall, I'd keep going with your walking since you mentioned that you weren't doing an exercise routine before you got pregnant. There are some other lightweight things you could do, but you also don't want to hurt yourself. Stay busy in the house and try to get outside when it isn't too humid. I hope you start finding things you enjoy doing to keep you active!

Like @bbiutmcph mentioned. Starting a lot of new things while pregnant isn't usually recommended.

Start off slow, you don't want to push your body too much at once you will risk pulling muscles and such. You may want to find a warm up routine and start walking. Start with small walks, then slowly extend them. Listen to your body.
  • I wasn't really excited about non-walking exercise until I joined a prenatal water aerobics class at my YMCA. It's fun because i get to chat with other pregnant ladies while getting a decent but gentle workout. Getting in the pool at all is cool/refreshing/easy/fun. Just walking back and forth in a shallow pool is enough.
