Miralax safe?

So this is TMI, but i've been struggling all day with constipation to the point that I want to cry every time i go to the bathroom. I need to do something. I am going to call my doctor but can't do that at work right now, and was wondering if anyone has used miralax or any other OTC for constipation successfully during pregnancy?

  • My OB approved it for me to use for a few days to get things moving. I only needed it for 2 days and haven't had to take it since. I'm not sure if taking it everyday consistently would be okay or not.
  • My perinatologist and gastroenterologist both said it was perfectly fine. I also added in some prunes too!
  • Great thank you!!
  • My OB told me with my last pregnancy "Miralax will become your best friend". I found it mixed into apple juice well, went down a little easier for me that way than drinking water. Once things are moving you could also try upping your fiber intake either through diet or pills, I'd just recommend increasing gradually and drinking LOTS of water with it. FYI, the Fiber One brownies and cookies are super tasty. If it's just hard stool, you can also take colace.
  • It was given to me by my OB! I like it with orange juice. Good luck ;)
  • Orange juice is a good mixer for miralax:) totally safe to take!
  • I was having severe abdomen pain when I was about 8 weeks pregnant and my OB told me to take a stool softener every morning because I was probably just constipated (which I was) and I have to say it's worked amazing! I usually have a bm every couple days but I'm much more regular now!
  • COLACE. I take two every day. I learned the hard way... anal fissure hard way. Pooping shards of glass will put you straight on the stool softener (and it still hurts! and I still bleed)-- I shudder to think what would happen if I couldn't take it. Also, this kills me, but try to cut out the cheese.

  • My RE said no, but my OB said yes.
  • Wow thank you ladies. So useful. Thankfully we had it at home already for my daughter so I'm taking it. Dr Google agrees. I'll talk to my doc too.

VegDumpling i'm pretty sure i may have teared something. The feeling you described is very similar. It's the first time it was this bad so i'm hoping adding more veggies and miralax and loads of prunes (just got a bag) can help heal.

Has anyone ever had a bath with epsom salts during pregnancy? It was recommended for me for healing after i had my first but never did it while pregnant. Safe you think?
