2nd Trimester

Abdominal pain

Ok, so on Thursday night at 8, I noticed I was bleeding a bit and my husband and I went to the ER. They said I had a small infection which they gave me antibiotics for, did an ultrasound, and a pelvic exam. I also got the shot for Rh- mothers. The ultrasound was normal, showed no signs of distress and the heartbeat was approx 154 BPM. They think the bleeding was from a spot that looks like I had started out carrying two and the second one didn't survive. Anyway, they said everything looked good except that slight infection. Today, I was at orientation for a new job. I was sitting all day, no lifting or anything. And around 12 I started feeling sharp pains in my left lower abdomen. I thought it was just the round ligament pain. But it has been happening on and off ever since. Its not debilitating pain, just a sharp jolt occasionally. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as regular growing pains, or if I should be worried. There is no bleeding, it just catches me by surprise. Thanks in advance.

    Could be round ligament pain?

Get tested for a UTI. Those can start like that. What color is your urine? When I was pregnant I had a kidney stone that started like you describe. The pain progressed around my rib cage & up under my shoulder blade.

At least-- I vote RLP or gas.

At most the beginning of a UTI. Contact your provider & see what they say.

  • Well, I am already on antibiotics for some bacteria they found in my urine during my ER visit, so even if it is the onset of a UTI I should be covered there. Was just wondering. I was giving it til this morning to stop, and I haven't had any yet since I got up an hour ago, so we will see how the day progresses. Can dehydration cause pain, as well? I know I am not getting enough water (my employer isn't allowing me to have water in my department because its food prep, even WITH a doctors note they are crabby about it!), but I try to force myself to drink as much as possible. Ive only been getting between 40-80 oz at times. Bad, I know.

Can you take bathroom breaks & chug? Basically when you pee refuel. If you are like any pg woman I know you should pee often (if you are holding it that is a problem).

20oz a pee session should be plenty. :-D

  • LOL! That is an amusing image :D Well, I do try to, but they were limiting my bathroom breaks as well. As luck would have it, I likely will not be returning as I have just accepted another job--which I was initially told was one day a week and is turning into a 5-6 days a week thing--where my access to water and a bathroom is only limited by what I can carry and get to while in my car. So the guzzling shouldn't be an issue anymore. I did start to worry yesterday because I started bleeding again. This time it was bright red rather than dark, but it stopped quickly. Also, I haven't had any of the cramping pan today, and no further bleeding. I know they say that there can be spotting, but this is all very concerning sometimes. I am thinking of making a trip to my midwife tomorrow after I get off work and just having a chat.
  • I would make an appointment to see your midwife or OB. Just to get everything checked out. ER is great for certain things, not so much with pregnant women.
  • Yeah, I am going to go see her after I get off work tomorrow. I am not sure what time I will be done, so I can't really make an appointment, but it should be early enough in the day that I can get squeezed in real quick.
  • So I called this morning to see if I needed to be checked out, and left a message with the nurses station. They finally called back and clarified the information I had already given, and said that, with my schedule being so hectic right now and me not knowing my hours yet, my midwife was in until 6 on Friday as well as on Tuesday and Friday next week. So I said I would check my schedule when I get it on Friday and call back. All good.

Got a call back in less than half an hour. My midwife wants me to come in as soon as my schedule allows. I am Rh-, and though I had the globulin shot during my ER visit, she still wants to examine me. So its off to the clinic tomorrow if I get off work early.
