2nd Trimester

No cervix left bulging membrane 23 weeks

Scary next couple of weeks . For some reason my cervix is so weak && my cerclage didn't help hold it together . Now I have membrane coming thru . Docs think I won't make it to 30 weeks :(:/ Idk what to do if it keeps bulging w risk of infection to baby && premature risk as well . I just wanna know if anyone is going thru this or if they did && how long they made it ? Problems w the baby etc etc ? It's my first child && we've planned so much for him already I couldn't imagine him not being here in the end .

Re: No cervix left bulging membrane 23 weeks

  • Bulging membranes do not mean anything about an infection. It is once your water breaks that increases your risk for infections. Also PPROM (premature rupture of membranes ) do not mean an automatic delivery. Medical care can means staying pregnant for weeks and weeks if your have PPROM.
Your first goal is 24 weeks, that is 'viability ' and when they may start your steroid shots. Every day is crucial for micropremies, so just breathe, try to relax, even pray (if you are religious ).
The latest studies show that bed rest does not stop preterm labor, but it can't hurt.

    Good luck.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • My cervix thinned out at 30 weeks. I went into pre term labor, which thankfully they were able to stop. My baby was given steroid shots, I was placed on medication and strict bed rest. I had twice weekly check ups. I eventually gave birth at 36 weeks. My doctor didn't think I was even make it that long. We took it week by week, knowing every week counts. My son was born with breathing problems at 36 weeks, and spent time in nicu.
    Good luck, hang in there.
  • You've gotten great advice. Sending you warm wishes. Stay baking baby!

  • Sending positive thoughts your way!
  • I have no advise but I am so sorry you're going through this! We are rooting for you and baby!
  • All of my babies (4) have been born premature. And yes the steroids they will give are important but the timing is more so. It is best to have them 24-48 at most a week before birth of baby... I am sure docs know what they are doing. Ask your doc any questions and concerns you have because doc has strongest credibility to answer your questions most accurately and for your specific case. Good luck and blessings to you! For me personally my breast milk is what could have been the difference that saved my babies, and they have donors of you can't produce.
  • In case you were wondering mine were 34,35, 32, 32.....I was hospitalized but docs kept them cooking pretty well from going into premature labor around 28 weeks with all. As a military spouse I've never had the same doc. Babies born in Japan, CA, FL, CA and now NC
  • I don't like posting without having all the details, but both my mother and a friend of mine went into preterm labor and were placed on strict bedrest. My mom's labor started at 6 months (she doesn't remember the exact week) and they were able to keep her from delivering until 38 weeks. The friend's water broke at 24 weeks and they kept her in the hospital until 32 weeks before they decided to deliver. I know these don't mirror what you are experiencing, but my point is that while things took a turn for the worst in both their pregnancies, they both brought home healthy babies (albeit after some time in the NICU). Always keep hope and trust that your doctors will do what is best for you and baby!
