Is drinking sodas while pregnant bad ???

i drink a soda every other day when I crave for it and then I drink water right behind it is that bad???

Re: Is drinking sodas while pregnant bad ???

  • My Dr. said not to worry- a caffeine drink a day isn't going to harm the baby. I was drinking waaaaay too much caffeine before pregnancy; I have cut back to about 1 every other day or so too. Tough habit to break! Good luck.

  • You right it's so hard
  • The occasional soda is fine. My OB said to avoid the diet sodas since there's not a lot of research on how the fake sugars affect the fetus and to keep my daily caffeine consumption under 200mg.

  • Any thing in moderation (beside drugs, cigerettes, pot...) is ok.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • As long as it's the only caffeine you have it's not any worse than when you're not pregnant. That being said soda is really bad for you in general. Really bad for teeth, cravings, obesity and chemicals. I try to drink flavored seltzer with no artificial sweeteners. Or unsweetened ice tea. Not always the best but better than nothing or soda. I still have a diet coke on occasion, couple times a month when out to dinner or something. All about moderation. Every other day may be a little excessive/unhealthy preggers or not. Just my opinion since you asked!
  • I've only had one my entire preg.
  • It's like I be craving for a soda
  • I never ever drink soda and guess what I crave with this little guy? Soda! I have a small fountain soda every other day.

  • Soda every other day? No you're fine. Don't worry about it.
  • I crave soda too & try my best not to drink it daily

Soda isn't any better for your baby than it is for you, but unless you're guzzling gallons of it, no worries. I still drink some every day.
  • Soda is never actually good for you....it has no health benefits and lacks anything that's actually good for your body. You could try a sparkling juice or sparkling flavored water as an alternative....although carbonation is also not exactly great for you, at least it would be better than a soda, and that's in general in life, not just while pregnant.

Yeah this. It's loaded in sugar, has no benefits whatsoever and darker sodas contain an immunosuppressant.

But that being said, I don't think it's any more dangerous now than it ever is. One every few days won't hurt anything.
  • Like others have stated, soda is always bad.  And if it is bad for you as an adult, it is extra bad for your developing baby.  While I wouldn't want you to stress over the soda you have already had while pregnant (because stress could actually be worse), I would recommend making a serious effort to kick that habit.  When I have cravings for something I know I should not have, I look at it this way.... Would I let my two year old eat/drink this?  If the answer is no (which it always is for things I pose this question about), then why would I even consider feeding it to myself now, when my child is using everything I put in my mouth as building blocks for itself?  My baby daddy and I are both in the nutrition field, and while we don't agree on everything I can eat/drink, soda is #2 on the never gonna happen list, right behind alcohol.  Even though I don't drink coffee either, I would drink coffee long before I would ever drink a soda.
  • It's not good but it's not going to hurt anything. The smog in the air is worse for you than the once a day seven up.

On a side note, why are there so many posts with women thinking they are China dolls just because they're KU?
  • When I crave soda, I try to limit it to rootbeer or MUG since certain versions either have no caffeine or have very little (like 38 mg). Or sprite :) Then I don't feel so bad haha.
  • I agree with PPs. It's not ever good for you, especially in pregnancy. However, if you're going to partake, then try to limit the amount and frequency you enjoy it. Best wishes :)

Stay under 200mg of caffeine a day :)

Why is carbonation bad for you?  I have never heard this.

It's not the best, but as long as you're getting your daily amount of water it's not going to hurt anything. Soda is never a great option because it's all sugar. So....if you're going to drink one, don't drink diet, make sure you're getting all your water, and make sure you're keeping it under 200mg of caffeine a day.
