What are your thoughts of the baby boys name Kane ?

Hi mommies

So I found THE NAME for my second baby boy Evan Marcus, that goes with his brother Dean

Unfortunately my hub really doesn't like the name  Evan -_-

The only name we agreed on a little was Kane, I have looked up the name and I found this

"A name of multiple identities: a somewhat soap-operatic single-syllable surname, a homonym for the biblical bad boy Cain, and, when found in Japan and Hawaii, it transforms into the two syllable KA-neh. Kane also has multiple meanings: in Welsh it's "beautiful," in Japanese, "golden," and in Hawaiian, "man of the Eastern sky." Over the last two years, it's dropped nearly 50 points to number 541. "

What concerns me a bit is that it might be a variation of Cain, the murderer of Abel, Im not religious of whatsoever but I don't want anybody to be offended or pick a bad name for my baby, what do you think? Any other suggestion for strong classic boys names?

Re: What are your thoughts of the baby boys name Kane ?

  • Eh. I wouldn't think of the biblical Cain, but I don't like it at all. Dean is such a strong, classic name, and Kane is a letdown in comparison.

There's a wwe wrestler Kane so that's where my mind automatically went. Maybe that's just me being the wrestling fan I am though. I think there are much better names to go with dean tbh

    Which names are better? :)

  • I did think of Cain immediately. I'm not very religious either, but I would not like that association.

    Benched.

  • Not religious but automatically think of the Cain in the bible.

  • Not religious and I immediately thought of Cain from the bible...and Kane the wrestler...and Kane the really annoying DJ in my area.

Dean is awesome. Kane is nowhere close to it. Keep looking.

I grew up with a Cain. His brother was Bowie.
But spelt Kane... I think of Patrick Kane. Who may win himself another Stanley Cup soon. Go Hawks Go!

I still like Seth, Eric, Rhys to go with Dean
  • My brothers name is Kane, so I'm biased. But I like it. He gets a lot of compliments.

    Edited because spelling.

    Grant
    Joel

  • That is a good point @gonetothesea!

  • It made me think of Dean Cain, the guy who played superman on TV in the early 90's. People might think you are a super fan!

Yes I have considered Jude Or Marcus as fn, my hub doesnt like Jude, and for Marcus, I really like that name but i know people will call him eventually Marc, which i dont like so thats why i choose it as middle name
  • It's a shame about what you said about the Marcus nickname thing cause I think it's a great alternative.
PPs have made some great suggestions. Noah, Colin, Lucas/Luca, Gavin are all lovely suggestions

I immediately thought of Cain from the bible...
Or this guy I know named Khane who is super douchey. :P

Same here! Very cute guy, but not necessarily worthy of honorary offspring naming!

OP, how about Owen? Similar cadence to Evan, your original preferred, and would pair well with Marcus as a middle name.
  • I think of Cain from the bible first. Then because I'm a hangry pregnant woman, I'm thinking of Raising Cane's and now I am craving a box of their chicken.

I think others gave some really great suggestions to go with Dean. Reed/Reid, Rhys, Graham, Thomas, Theodore, Sullivan, Eric
  • I actually love the name Kane. It is on my short list as well. I also brought up Kane on a previous post and got a lot of negative feedback. However, I live in Chicago and have asked my friends and family their thoughts and they all love the name. It might be because of Patrick Kane who is on the Blackhawks and everyone in Chicago loves Patrick Kane and the Hawks!!

well, my son's name is Evan so I'm fairly biased :)  Really do love Evan.

I do agree that Dean Cain comes to mind when I hear the name.  I saw that someone suggested Noah, I like that name as well.

  • I like Kane! Reminds me of Cain from Young & the Restless as well as The Kane Show from DC!

It does also make me think of Dean Cain...
  • Evan is a million times better than Kane. It makes me think of every other C names that went to K to be "youneek". Plus I totally think of Dean Cain. I also think of Cain and Abel but I don't think that's a bad thing.

    Some other suggestions:

    Grant (I'm partial because it's DS's name)
    Reid
    Jude
    Pierce
    Joel
    Lance
    Liam
    Blake
    Bryce
    Chase
    Cole
    Henry
    Jack
    James
    Max
    Miles
    Noah
