Henley for a girl?

I am not fond of common names so what do you think of Henley for a girl? Middle name Jean after her great grandma who passed away.

  • Dear god please no.  If you want something actually uncommon Henley isn't it.  It's trendy.  It's a brand new name that jumped like 300 spots in one year after it being used twice. It sounds like a bazillion other ley names being created and it's a shirt.  It's awful for a human and the Hen nn makes it even worse.

  • Do you have any family history, heritage or other styles you like? I can assure you the regs here can give you a LOT of uncommon great girl names.

  • I think Jean would be a lovely name for your child,

Jean has not been in the top 1000 since before the year 2000. Meanwhile, Henley first showed up in 2013 at rank 832, and last year was 523. Henley is common and boring.

    Jean Henley
    Jean Clara
    Jean Daphne
    Jean Isolde
    Jean Abigail
    Jean Thea
  • Awful. Not a name. What about Holly, Heidi, Hillary, Helena?
  • Truly uncommon girl names

    Bianca (ranked 360)
    Rosa (ranked 607)
    Dahlia (ranked 445)
    Arden (not in top 1000)
    Clarissa (764)
    Miranda (238)
    Linnea (not in top 1000)
    LOretta (not in top 1000)
    Marissa (472)
    Helena (502)
    Elin (733)
Tallulah (not in top 1000 in us)
    Josette (not in top 1000)

With more ideas of your style I am sure there are a lot more options

  • Henley is a shirt, not a name for a girl.
    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
    TTC since September 2012
  • I don't care for Henley or any of the Kenley, Tenley names. Just sounds made up and juvenile.
  • As others have said: Henley isn't a name.  I think there are plenty of uncommon names you could select from, depending on your style.  Nameberry even has  list of classic but uncommon names.
  • I kinda like it. I'm all for something different and I have never heard of anyone with this name. Although it did make me think of a shirt for what it's worth.
  • That's a trendy mess. Sounds very unattractive to me. I love the name Jean. What about Jeanette for a first name?
  • Annoying.
    A shirt.
Part of the Kenley, Tenley, Brinley, Finley, Lynley, crazy.....which reminds me of when the whole "-ayden" thing boomed for boys.

  • If you aren't fond of common, then definitely don't go with Henley. It hits just about every trendy (=common) fad out there. I like the suggestion Jean Daphne, but I think I would reverse it to Daphne Jean.
  • It's not my fav, but I love Jean for MN.

Henley is a type of men's shirt - not a child.
It really is a piece of clothing. You might as well call her Cardigan.

Why not Hailey? It's at least a name.

What is it about people choosing trendy-sounding names because they don't want to choose trendy-sounding names? How are people not hearing just how trendoid these names actually are? Is this crazy irony the reason this keeps happening?

Jean is fine though. Not my personal choice but pretty and sweet of you to honor your grandmother in such a way.

    Ew.
    Jean as the first name.
  • Henley is a name of a town in England famous for its boat race. Being British the name Henley just makes me think regatta.

  • Maybe try Hadley? It's our DD's name. It's pretty, a real name, and not overly used.

    Love Daphne Jean!!

I knew a Henley in college and all I remember is that every time I heard her name I thought about a shirt. I do like Hadley and Daphne!
  • I like Henley I really do! So much so that it was on the table for one of our middle names.

However, I don't like Henley Jean. Both those words together make me think of clothing items. I think alone both names are good, together not so much.
