December 2015 Moms

short torso and just fat.

This is kind of me whining to myself, I have a super short torso, so whenever I gain a pound or two it really shows in my tummy area.. anyways I was looking in the mirror today with just my yoga pants and a bra on and there was just so much fat, back fat, boob fat, tummy fat. blah!

any other short torso'd mommas having the same issue??

Re: short torso and just fat.

  • Same issue here! I'm also guessing that with a short torso, the poor baby will have no place to go but outward, lol.

Me too! I'm 5' so yep!
  • Yep! I'm 5'2". I've actually lost 10 pounds so far, but my belly just keeps getting fatter somehow! I imagine I'll looked like a whale soon lol

Same! I've always struggled with this but now that I'm pregnant it's 100x worse! I try not to judge myself too harshly but it's hard not to. I started wearing sundresses and maxi dresses to be a little more comfy and it's more flattering than my pants right now.
  • Aw don't feel bad. I'm the same. Short torso AND high waist. And I got The Bloat. I literally look like this right now.

Yes! I'm 4'11 with all my height in my legs. When I was skinnier you could fit like two fingers between where my ribs and hips touch, now I'm just smushy. No exaggeration. I was already at my heaviest weight ever when I got pregnant. It's making it really hard to enjoy pregnancy as I see how fat I'm getting...
  • Yep, baby will go out. I also have a short torso and am 5'3". Also, internal organs get pushed up and it's really uncomfortable when you don't have a lot of room to start with.

I don't have a short torso but my love handles have expanded past my (already too narrow) hips, which is killing me... can't even pull off a maxi dress. Someone please tell me this is because of pregnancy and very, very temporary.

    :)

These are the first and last bump pics that I took with DD. I thought I just looked fat before the 18w one. I wish I had taken pics all the way through with DD. This time, I started taking weekly pics at 5 weeks. I may think I just look fat now, but at least I'll have a more objective way to look at it and will really be able to see when I change to looking like a real bump.

My SIL (and DH) has a long torso, so she looked a lot different than I did. She is also taller and a lot thinner than I am. Her babies had room to stretch vertically whereas mine had nowhere to go but out ;)

  • Omg me too! I'm 5'4" and have only gained like 3 lbs but I look like I've gained 15. My coworker has similar body and is 4 weeks ahead of me. She told me not to bother with the Bella band because my pants won't fit even if they're unbuttoned.. I think she's right. Everything is so tight on me!
  • This is me... 5'3 start weight was 158... I'm finally not nauseous anymore. Going to start working out again. I hope I don't get too fat; I wonder if it's possible to stay the same weight and deliver at around 160. (Since I'm overweight to start) My SIL is 4 inches taller and she carried so nicely.
  • I'm 5'3" but have had abdominal issues since birth, I was in physical therapy, and would work out like crazy and nothing helped my tummy. Add to that 3 surgeries that cut abdominal muscles. I'm loving the fact that because of this and being 13 weeks it looks like I'm showing already a lot, but also afraid what this will mean as my little one gets bigger. I'm down 10 pounds but up 2 sizes, every single pound has migrated to my belly and my sides. Everyone thinks I'm farther along than I am. I am so glad I told work early because the bloat by 10 weeks there was no way I could hide it. I was out of regular pants by 6 weeks. SO doesn't understand why I feel so fat as he keeps telling me it's the baby, I keep biting my tongue from telling him it's baby but baby me not baby our child...
  • Yes! 5 feet tall and when I sit down if I hunch over my ribs and pelvic bone feel like they're (or at least could be) touching! With my first born it got very uncomfortable toward the end. She had no room at all. And yes right now I'm looking extremely fluffy around the midsection. Thankfully I'm finally getting a little bit of a bump so it doesn't just look like I drink too much beer.

Same! I'm 4"11 and so the tiny bit of weight I've put on looks like so much more! Feeling like a baby whale!!
  • Ugh, YES!! I'm 5' and stubby all over, short torso and legs. Starting my first pregnancy at 163!! Pants don't fit, I don't feel like I look good or pregnant only chubby and fat :(

I am 5'1 starting at 159 this is my first pregnancy. Been worried about looking like a round blue berry and just rolling around. I'm pretty curvey already with big boobs and butt. Just hope everything goes back to normal once these bundle of joy comes.
  • I have a long torso but a short waist and am starting to expand all over in my torso (I'm 10+2). My DDs have gone up two sizes and my waist has basically disappeared. I've never been crazy happy with my body but I always liked my hourglass shape and now I feel like I look like a barrel with legs. It makes me want to cry every time I look in the mirror or see a photo of myself. I have only gained a few pounds so I guess this is all bloat and constipation...
As of last week I've had a few clients at work tell me that I'm gaining weight and it's really wearing on my self-esteem..

Thanks for listening (reading). Any fashion tips that don't involve wearing a tent??

Maxi dresses ladies :) enjoy your pregnancies. All who love you will think you're beautiful.
  • I have a short torso too. I've always had a tummy but with big boobs and good posture was able to hide it. Not anymore. At almost 11 weeks, I don't look pregnant. I look doughy and fat. Grumble. And I can't suck it in anymore. Bah.
  • I'm 5'1 and don't know if I have a "short" torso but I'm having the same issue with everyone thinking I'm so much further along than I actually am, that being the main reason so many people know so soon. Everyone keeps asking me if I'm sure there isn't more than one in there!
  • Short torso=low rise jeans hit me at my belly button.

Not a very short torso, but I am short t 5'1'' with broad shoulders. Even when I was skinny I would not look skinny. But now at 8w I am like a balloon /:)

I read so long ago that shorter plumpier women would have a much easier labour than taller women. Too bad I cannot recall anything to authenticate the fact. Really hoping that the fact is true [-O<
  • Ugh, it's the worst! I'm 5 feet, and pre-pregnancy I was 105 lbs. I've only gained 2 lbs but none of my pants fit and I just feel like a beached whale at all times. 10w3d today and I feel like I look like I'm about 18 weeks. It.

I'm 5'2" and right there with you! I'm 13w1d and want so badly to be showing but just feel like I look fat! Here's my 13w progress photo and I literally just look like a chubby short girl :(
