TTC after 35

Pregnancy test question

Today I'm at 13 or 15DPO and used one of the cheap test strips. I've taken a few already (I know - way too early, but I'm soooo weak!) and I always wait until I see the control line to make sure it's working properly and then come back when the 5 minutes are up. So today when I was waiting for the control line to show up, I saw a very faint line in the test line spot and it was still there as the control line was showing up. I got excited (of course!) but didn't look at the test again until it was done and by then the test line was gone. I kept squinting and trying to find the test line and even convinced myself I saw it but I don't think it was really there at the end of the 5 minutes. The test line in the beginning was definitely visible (faint, but no squinting required). Has anyone had this happen before? Was it just a fluke?

I know it's still early days and I'm not 100% which day was my O-day so I guess I'll just keep waiting and test again later. I'm not getting a ton of symptoms (only sore nipples and a few cramps here and there - I've had WAY more early symptoms in the past) so am starting to think I'm not, but still have some hope. Also at the point where I'm starting to obsess and over-analyze everything (hence this post). My luteal phase is usually 12-14 days but I'm on progesterone so I don't think AF will show up on her own...

Re: Pregnancy test question

  • I haven't had that happen, but I know you've had a positive month so far and I'll be sending good vibes your way!

I know I've stared really hard at a pregnancy test, hoping to see a shadow of a line, and haven't seen anything.

Give it a couple days, and keep peeing on sticks.  Progesterone will keep AF from making an appearance.

If it helps, you won't really experience symptoms until you have enough of the hormone to give you a positive pregnancy test.  So don't drive yourself crazy squeezing your boobs to see if they hurt, or wondering about whether you're nauseated.

  • I wouldn't say 13 dpo is too early to test. The cheepies can pick up hcg at 25 I believe. Wait 2 days and test again. I would believe whatever that test says.
If there was no line after the 5 min then unfortunately the test is negative at this time. But as we all know hcg doubles every day so in two days it should show up.
    Good luck.

  • I don't think 13 DPO is too early to test either.  I hope this is your month!!!  :)

And my AF has come the last two months ON progesterone, so it doesn't necessarily stop AF from coming.

  • Thanks for all the support and suggestions ladies! I originally didn't think 13DPO was too early to test, but then everything I read online says to wait to test after your period is expected so then I started to get confused. I don't know if I'll buy the cheap tests again as it's just too tempting to test early and to test all the time ;)

@emsmama15 it's good to know that AF can still come even while on progesterone as I'm kind of afraid to stop it right now (in case I am pregnant). But since this supplement is so expensive, I want to know ASAP what's going on as it's silly to keep taking it if I'm not pregnant...

I did start getting some strong period-like cramps in the middle of the night and am feeling like AF is on her way, so trying to prepare myself for that....

  • I splurged and used a fancy test today with FMU. It was a definite negative :((

Since I should now be around 15 DPO, I'm going to accept this test as the truth and stop taking the progesterone. AF should show up in a day or two (based on what happened last cycle after I stopped the progesterone).

Really, really, really bummed since everything seemed to line up SOOOO perfectly this cycle, but am still celebrating the fact that I had such a good, strong ovulation on my own. I am going to keep trying to ovulate via natural means for a few more cycles. In the meantime, H and I will be looking at switching insurances and hopefully will be able to find a more proactive doctor/RE/obgyn (we will go with whatever we can afford).

Thanks again for all the support.

@jilligan14 I'm sorry to hear that.

It sounds like a good plan, to keep trying to ovulate naturally for a few cycles, while lining up the insurance to bring in a better doctor in a few months.  Take care of yourself, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

  • So sorry, @jilligan14 , especially since it all seemed to be coming together this month. Fingers crossed for you and another strong ovulation next month.
  • Sorry @jilligan14
But I agree that it's good that you ovulated on your own. Remember not every egg we spit out is a good one. So if you keep Oing then eventually you will catch a good one.
