period like cramps

I'm 36 weeks 2 days. I'm 5 cm dialted. Have had period like cramps all day. Should I go to the hospital or wait it out. Also had a dark red blood on top of light pink when I used the bathroom and wiped last time

You should probably call your doctor. Could be good, could be bad, could be labor.

  • At five cms i'd be camping out in the hospital. That's half way there, the rest could happen in any span of time. I'm not a doctor so I don't know much. Sorry I can't be of any help
  • CALL YOUR DOCTOR NOOOWWW

Go to the doctor and let us know what you found out. Scary time but this could happen to any of us. Good luck and hope all will be ok :)

  • Call your doctor.
  • I wouldn't even bother calling your OB because they're going to tell you to go to labor and delivery.  If cramping has been consistent, you're already at 5, and you're bleeding.. they're going to tell you to go to triage. Just save yourself the call and go.

  • I thought protocol was at 4cm you stay. Well at least that's what it is here...I can't believe someone would even take the time to post this instead of just calling!
  • Actually I did call and they told me not to come in unless the pain got worse. And yes this is completely real.

I'm really surprised they didn't want you to come in to at least check you out.
My OB always seems really interested if I've seen any blood accompanied by cramping.
  • Our hospital keeps you for anything past 4 whether painful or not. At least that's what they told me when I was in the other night. I would go over and demand to be seen. You know your body better than they do. if it doesn't seem right to you, then it probably isn't.

Personally I would just go straight to labor and delivery and make them check me out. If it ends up being a false alarm so be it but I'd rather play it safe at this point in the game.
  • Also, if you are a STM once you hit 6cm you can be fully within the hour. So keep that in mind. FTM 6cm starts active labor as well which can also be quick but sometimes not AS quick. If I were your doctor I wouldn't be messing around with someone walking around at 5cm and cramping.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • I've been on bed rest for 3 weeks so I'm not just out walking around. The blood is just my mucas plug. It fell completely out today. I'm not have contractions close enough together so I got sent home
  • Some people are so rude on here. Hope you get the support and answers you need!
I think it's best to be on the safe side, even though it may end up being nothing to worry about. Getting checked out at L&D wouldn't hurt!
    Best of luck!
  • You called, so now just listen to your body. I was at 5cm at my last appt before delivery (with DS2) & didn't even know it. I lost my MP the next day and ended up delivering the day after that. I'd wait it out until they're timable &/or a doc tells me to go in.
  • WOW!  With red bleeding they said NOT to come in... I'd go and knock on the door!

    Good luck!  Trust your gut!!

  • I honestly wouldn't be that freaked out. If it was just red blood when you wiped. Not filling up a pad worthy and you are at 5 cm. then it's probably just your cervix opening up and dilating a little more. "Bloody show" is normal. And if it's just period like cramps not consistent contractions then yeah. The hospital will probably send you home anyways if you aren't in active labor. I walked around at a 6-7 for over a week. With my 4th. And I live 45 minutes from the hospital. But I know my body. And how my body acts and feels in labor. And I wasn't in labor yet. I've been having period cramps off and on for a couple weeks and as of yesterday im at 4cm and 60% effaced. Docs not concerned. Everybody is different. Only you know your body. And only you know if something is off or not right. Trust your gut and go in if you feel you need to. But also stay home if you aren't that concerned yet.
