Can't decide

We're stuck on a middle name for a boy and all over the place for girls.  For boys, the first name will be William with the nickname Liam.  Our picks for middle names so far are Finn, Finnegan, and Kelley.  We're both very proud of our Irish heritage and would like to pay homage to it in our child's name.  Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

Oh, and our older daughter's names are Samantha Lee and Christine Elise.  We're a family that likes some flexibility in the nickname department.  lol.

William Kelley gets my vote! Kelley is a little different and under used. I am SSSOOO over all the Finn names! I really just think that they are so boring now that they are so over used.
  • I agree that William Kelley sounds best.

  • William Kelley, though is there a reason for that spelling? I personally prefer Kelly, keep it simple and all.

Kelley was my grandmother's middle name.  I could switch the spelling and keep the heart of the name.

Edit:  Maiden name, not middle name.

I like William Kelley as well
  • My mother completely fell head over heels for William Kelley too.  It looks like that's the direction we're going to go since it makes me and my bf happy as well as both sets of grandparents.

  • William Kelley is amaze balls

  • The only worry I have with William Kelley is kids picking on him (if it is a him) for having a "girl's name."

I wouldn't think twice about this worry. For one middle names aren't even used often. Two it's masculine and totally dated on a girl anyhow so most peers his age won't even have a Kelley association. Plus I think of Jim Kelly and there isn't a more standup awesome guy than him or Kelly Slater and he's awesome too.

I think it'd be ok still...not everyone would know his middle name anyway...I honestly don't even know all my friends middle names and we've been friends for like 12 or so years. Plus Kelley is actually a male name as well, not just a girl name (I may be mistaken but was it not originally a male name).

Plus if you watch Chicago Fire, one of the male leads is named Kelly.
  • It's not a huge worry, but one of those back of the brain things that make you go hmmmm.  Kind of like I'm reluctant to go with Bridget Reagan for a girl because her last name would start with a B making the initials BRB.  Not sure if I would want that for her.

I also tend to over think things.  lol.

I don't see brb as an issue, I think you are overthinking lol and that's ok, it's a big decision
  • Kelley is a male name
    Kelly is a female name

  • @VexyMommy it's cool, just get her stuff monogrammed. Her monogram would be BBR. No problems.

William Kelley is great. Keep the Kelley spelling, especially considering the family meaning!

Both are masculine, so either spelling would work. I like the idea of a family spelling, though.

    OP--
In regards to your worry.. I actually know a good many guys named Kelly, so it's not even a "used-to-be-boys-name-but-not-so-much-anymore" like Ashley or Dana.. Kelly is still familiar as a boy's name. I think William Kelly/Kelley is great!
