Where will your baby sleep?

With my DS we had a crib and a pack and play with the matress AND the wedge pillow that goes in the bed for co-sleeping and he NEVER slept in the crib it was a waste so this time we only have the pack and play then plan to move her to a toddler bed with side rails (her brothers old bed because it's just sitting there) but of couse family has their "opinions" about how she will need a crib ...

Re: Where will your baby sleep?

  • We are using the pack n play as well for a few months until she goes over the weight restriction. DH is planning on building a crib so if we gets one built we will use that afterward, if not we'll buy one then! We also have a rock n play sleeper for other situations.

  • I'm
Putting my baby in his crib right away. It's what I did with my last baby and she sleeps so good. His crib will be in our room for awhile.
  • With our first we did a bassinet in our room for the first three months then transitioned him to a crib. We plan to do close to the same with DD.

Pack N Play until he's sleeping well then upstairs to his nursery crib.

He'll sleep in the bassinet in our room for a few months. But his crib is set up already in his room (he's sharing a room with one of his older brothers) and once we are ready to move him in there we will. Just may not be till he's four months old ;)
  • We have a co-sleeper that attaches to our bed. He will go straight from our bed to a toddler bed, as well. It's what has worked best for our family (this is our 3rd) and I pay no attention to other people's opinions.
  • I am hoping to do a Bassinet when we are asleep in our rooming and the cot in it's bedroom when we are awake. I'm not sure I could sleep through at the start not having the baby close by but I also want the baby to be used to their bedroom and cot for later on
  • Our nursery is the room right next to our bedroom, so we may use the cribs right away. If I want them in my room instead, we'll use the rock n play sleepers for a while.
  • I got her a bassinet, and a crib! Hopefully she will stay in her crib!
  • Crib right away! Our room and hers are right next to each other. If we decide to keep her in our room it will be for a week or two in a pack n play.
  • Pack and play for the Summer in our room, then upstairs into his crib before I go back to teaching.
  • My awesome brother bought us a Halo Bassinest to use for the first few months since the research says to have them sleep in your room for that time. Then she has a crib to use after in her nursery, which is unfortunately on a different floor than our room.
  • I'm thinking rock n play in our room for the first month and than to her room. Our rooms are right next to each other and I'm a really light sleeper.
  • Pack n play the first 3 months then the crib in his room.
  • Pack n play next to the bed until we move into a new house in August then into the crib across the hall

  • Pack n play in our room (but not right next to the bed) at first, but just at night time. I am a very sound sleeper and I'm worried about not waking up when she cries at night so I want her in our room in the beginning. But she will be napping in her crib and once we get on a consistent sleep schedule we'll move her into her crib full time.

This is just the plan, though. If baby decides she isn't going to go along with it, we'll make adjustments as necessary.

  • Our nursery is right next to the master, she will go right into her crib. The rocker and everything I will need for late night feedings is already set up in her room :) the pack n play comes with a bassinet jus in case :)
  • Rock and play or bassinet in our room for the first 3 months or so, then to his crib! Plan to work in naps in the crib during those first few months.
  • Baby will be co-sleeping for the first couple months, then move on to the crib.

Our nursery is a separate room within our master suite (intended to be a gym but we renovated it for the time being) so she'll go directly into the crib.
  • She will be sleeping in her crib in the nursery right away. I want to feel a little bit of normalcy after she is born, and I think keeping our bedroom the same will be the best way to do it. Of course, I might start to go insane getting out of bed for the 5th time in the night, so I am opening to changing my mind when the time comes.

So how old do you think she'll be when she moves to the toddler bed? Depending on how big your baby is, she might be able to stay in the pack n play long enough for this to make sense. I looked online a bit, and the consensus seems to be that 18 - 24 months is a fine time to transition to a toddler bed, or at the very least the mattress on the floor. So, could totally work. Makes sense to me if you don't want to bother with a crib as well.
  • We plan on using the rock and play or the pack and play bassinet part. We talked about doing her crib immediately because we had such a hard time with our first. But we just built a new house with a split floor plan and the kids rooms are so far from ours for multiple trips to breastfeed.
  • Just today ordered the Halo bassinet with some baby shower money so we will start there and transition to the crib in a few months. DD would only sleep on my chest for the first few weeks so that may be where this one starts too. We'll see!
  • Twins will sleep in the same crib in their room until they are ready to be separated into their own cribs.

Rock n play next to the bed for a few weeks then we will move him into his crib. The crib worked really well for DD so were hoping the same is true for DS. My sister had co slept with all three if her kids and it worked great for them. You just have to figure what is best for your family and leave it at that. I wouldn't even bring it up in conversation... No one needs to know or have an opinion.

At night we are using a bassinet that my grandfather made when I was born. During the day, she'll be in a pack n play and once she hits 3 months she will go into her crib in her own room.
  • DD was a co-sleeper until 3 :) I was single not to long after she was born so hey, it was good for us both. I have no idea what I'm doing this time. I think that I may do three weeks in our room then to his crib buuut, it depends on how breastfeeding goes.

We'll do planned, safe bedsharing again (with the benefit of a crib side-carred to the bed so that baby can some extra space if desired).

This is exactly what I'm planning.

I didn't even think about putting them in a crib right away. We bought a twin bassinet pack n play but I am thinking I want them in their cribs right away. @Emilywooddesign how old do you plan on keeping your twins in the same crib? Until they can roll over and move? I feel like they would feel more comfortable being close by each other but on the other hand I'm a FTM and afraid of SIDS.
  • We plan on the crib right away. My husband has medical issues that cause him to be anemic and that coupled with little sleep is dangerous for his 1.5 hour commute each way. I also plan on exclusively breast feeding (fingers crossed) so it doesn't make much sense to wake up DH when I'm the one who has to do the feeding. We have a pack and play set up downstairs for naps during the day.

  • We're planning on the pack n play in our room for a while (until there seems to be some kind of sleep routine) and then the crib in baby's room. Mostly out of convenience for me, even tho the baby's room is right across from the master bedroom, I want to be able to wake up, reach over and grab the kid, breastfeed, change diaper, put kid back and go back to sleep without having to bestir myself from bed, or too far from it. No definitive age for switching to the crib, more sleep milestones are going to set our plan - ex: once kid is sleeping fairly consistently for 3-4 hour stretches at a time (meaning I would only have to get up 2 or 3 times a night). Also, we have no AC, and our room is cooler in the summer than the baby's room, so it makes some sense to keep them in there during the height of summer right now.

  • He will sleep in his crib right away. Co-sleeping (in my opinion) is too dangerous and I want him to be able to sleep soundly on his own. Plus we also have a small bedroom so no room for bassinet and we have 2 dogs that sleep in our bed so there is no room anyway.

We plan on doing the same as our first: co-sleeping the first week, bassinet in the room for the first 2 months then crib in her own room once feedings are more than 2 hours apart. Although we may not co-sleep since this one is a summer baby. My first was a winter baby and I think he was always cold until he put on a little weight.
