Hi, FTM here! Could someone help me? I'm overwhelmed with the idea of registering and have absolutely what is a necessity, what is a luxury, and what is not worth the money whatsoever. What would you put on a NEED list, a WANT list, and a NOT WORTH IT list?
Re: Need/Want/Not Worth It List Help

Pregnant Chicken as some awesome information on bare necessities, and the basics of what's needed.
The only things I can think of that we bought for our first baby and turned out we really didn't use: wipes warmer, and shopping cart cover. And we ended up with WAY too many newborn clothes. They grow out of them so quickly and end up wearing pjs or sleepers most of the time
I also have to do a plug for cloth diapers. At least give them a thought if you haven't already. They are so modern and easy now and save SO much money! I'm happy to answer any questions if you have any
I have to disagree with a white noise machine and bottles being a necessity. I'm pregnant with #4 and don't own a white noise machine, so you can definitely live without it.
Bottles can be nice to have around, but not every baby will use them. My first and third kids drank from bottles no problem, but my second refused to touch the things. She would rather wait until I got home to nurse her than drink from a bottle if I was out.
Items you will need are:
- a place for baby to sleep (crib/play pen/rock n play) and sheets/blankets as needed
- diapers (cloth or disposable), wipes, and a place to put dirty diapers (this could be a diaper pail with cleaning solution for cloth diapers, a Diaper Genii-type disposal, or a regular garbage can)
- a way to transport baby around (stroller or wrap/carrier or both and a car seat)
- seasonally appropriate clothing for where you live (if you live where it's cold, you may want a special blanket for the car seat)
- feeding accessories (this may be bottles/nipples/brushes for formula feeding or supplementing or toddler plates/bowl/cups/utensils for when baby is older or both)
So many of items that have/will be suggested are going to depend on the baby and your preferences. It is really a try and see scenario. If you don't want to buy a bunch of things that baby may or may not like, try asking around. Friends or family may be able to let you borrow items you think you want to try.
Must:
Nosefrieda and nasal saline (he had vomit coming out of his nose daily and this was the only thing that got it all out)
Rock n Play- this and the swing were the only places he's sleep for the first 4 months
Swing- we got the fancy schmancy fisher price one the swings 3 ways it was worth it!
Double electric pump (had latch issues ended up EPing)
Diaper pail- we were in a 2nd floor apt so we weren't going to run to take the trash out every 5 minutes
Baby Boy born on 1/14/13
Diapers, wipes, formula (because I stopped producing breast milk) Pack 'n Play ( for traveling to g-ma and G-pa's), clothes (which I rarely have to buy thanks to gma and g-pa), crib, sheets, swaddles, bottles, car seat, stroller.
You can try Lucie's List or pregnant chicken. That's where I went t start my research. Aso, baby's r us gives you a suggested list when you register. Mine did at least.

I don't think we need more than 1 thread on this.
