Bummed about husband's circumcision

I've been doing all this research on circumcision for our son and it's making me so sad to realize how much sexual sensation is lost in the penis. I had no idea how important the foreskin was to sexual pleasure. I put it together and I totally think that my husband suffers from a loss of penis sensitivity. He gets hard just fine but then often he just loses it after a while and I'm pretty sure it's because he's not feeling enough during sex. Dryness is also a problem for us, and I'm reading that losing the natural moisture from the penis and the gliding action of the foreskin is a big reason why. He's older: 46 and so that's why I think it's becoming a problem now. It's hard for me to talk about with him because I don't want to make him feel worse about it. It makes me sad to I realize I'll never get to experience sex as nature intended it. :( I'm sure I'm just feeling worse about it now because I'm emotional and pregnant but it still sucks.

  • I doubt he is bummed about his circumcision, you shouldn't be. You shouldn't self diagnose, ever... Baby Daddy is circ'd and is actually the most sensitive I've ever been with. I have a friend who isn't circ'd and he said if/when he has a son he will be circumcising him. While he loves his penis as much as the next guy, he had infections growing up, which are quite common in uncircumcised boys. Don't assume it's his circumcision when it could be an actual medical problem, it also could be just aging.

  • Seeing as he is close to 50, if he is concerned he should talk to his doctor. With his age it is unlikely it has anything to do with him being circumcised.

As women get older they hit menopause, are harder to become aroused, are drier. Similar thing for men.

It seriously feels like you are just trolling looking for women on here to start fighting about circumcision.
  • Its not just girls that will make fun of your son if you dont circumcise. Little kids are mean and ruthless will say his penis looks like a soft shell turtle. When the child grows up they dont feel confident even being with awoman. Its sad. I do agree with PP that he should probably go to the doctor. I dont understand the wetness part. I thought the vagina was suppose to get wet when turned on maybe your not getting wet enough?

@gatormom73 completely disagree - people will make fun of your kids for being a gator fan though. Btw, kids get made fun of for everything - big nose, big ears, small boobs, whatever. If some boy is making fun of my sons penis I will tell him to ask the boy why he is staring at his penis and is he a homo bc that's weird.
  • A past partner also hated his. He would tell me it caused him pain. And was looking into having his foreskin removed. I am having another boy and he will be circumcised. Its a decision for you and your partner to make together. And just a heads up most drs wont perform on an infant older than 3 months. So you don't have to decide at the hospital if your not ready, but don't wait too long.
  • @Brieb33 Lol its okay im fine to agree to disagree I just know that 15 years from now im sure your son will be asking why you didnt save him the extra teasing for a simple procedure he will not remember. I know a lot of women that agree with you, Im just not one of them. . Gator Bait
    Sorry I had to!!

Considering many people are making the decision to not circumcised, I don't think teasing will be an issue. I had read somewhere (quite a while ago so unsure of how valid the information was ) that it's about half and half when it comes to boys who are/aren't circumcised.
We are choosing to circumcise but worrying about our son being teased did not weigh into our decision.

Half and half is not quite accurate. It's actually about 60% do and 40% don't but I see where you are coming from it is less of an issue. I will say though my husband has a friend who is uncircumcised and as soon as I brought this issue up he immediately told be about how his friend was constantly made fun of from the moment people found out. I've known a few uncircumcised men and all of them agree that they wish they would've been circumcised not only because of the bullying issue but also because of hygiene issues and infections.
  • I had my son circumsized because I thought it was healthier, plus My boyfriend is also circumsized and he pretty much insisted our son have it done too... I've been with a guy in the past who was uncircumsized, and I ended up with a yeast infection... That being said, it probably was one in a million that I got an infection, and I personally don't prefer one over the other, but in this case, I'd say your husband might just be suffering from a little erectile dysfunction. That happens to a lot of men. He should be talking to a doc.

@gatormom73 when and if my son comes to me or his father and asks why we didn't circumcise him, I'll say because we loved you so much we didn't think cutting off the most sensitive part of your body because "60% of parents" chose to is a good enough reason to strap your arms and legs down whether you remember it or not. And @saric83, yah if some boy is making fun of my sons penis he should check is sexual orientation. Have you ever had a female make fun of your vagina? Doubtful, if you did maybe you would wonder why she's staring at it. I absolutely will teach my son to stick up for himself.
  • @Brieb33 alright totally understandable. Every baby born its the mothers and fathers decision to make. No wrong or right answer here just opinions. . And to the part about boys making fun I should have said not really 'lil boys' but when girls and boys mess around at young ages the girls go around telling their friends of the experience they had with the boy, if the girl brought up the boy being uncircumcised it could potentially get back to a group of boys that could possibly tease him.
  • @gatormom73 I'm also going to teach son about waiting until marriage. I realize this is "far fetched" but I hope by the time he is sexually active the female would be mature enough that she's not running around joking about it.

Let's just agree to disagree about how we would want our kids to stick up for themselves.
  • I wasn't going to comment as I found this post a bit ridiculous to begin with and there has already been hundreds and hundreds of circumcision debates on bump may already but I would like to add... I never thought of it and didn't have a big opinion about it so I asked DH what he would want for his son as he is uncircumcised, he said he would wish the same for his son. He has never ever had infections and has never ever been teased by other people about it. Lucky I'm having a girl so I don't have to worry about this anymore.

Glad I could take you guys aback. I'm not raising a sissy boy who doesn't stick up for himself. Sorry not sorry.

Are these numbers all males in general. Or just at birth. I am a nurse so I see a lot of babies go uncircumcised at birth bc insurance will not pay for it but 2-3 years later the same babies are back in with a dr "claiming" the child has a medical need for it. But when you ask the mom they don't ever recall having a problem with it they just know insurance will cover it. I don't side either way as I am a mom to only girls I was just curious as to where the statistics came from. But after all it's your baby do what you feel is best and remember if he eve starts having problems with cleanliness you can get it done later on.

  • Well, he is unhappy with it and wishes he wasn't circumcised, but it's true that there's nothing he can do about it now. He doesn't dwell on it. Typical guy, he won't go to a doctor, but I know he's tried the ED meds because a few times I found them in with his bathroom stuff. They're obviously not working enough and I don't know what else to try. I just wish I wasn't one of those pregnant women who wants sex even more that usual! Although at this point it's getting almost impossible :P

I don't think guys get made fun of for it any more. I don't know what the numbers are exactly, but leaving babies whole is way more common now. Besides, what kind of a sick person makes fun of a guy for his natural body? That's some messed up body shaming right there!
  • I'm never sure why this is a cleanliness issue.  I had a long time partner, uncircumcised, who knew how to bathe.  If your kid grows up not knowing how to bathe, that's a bigger issue that shouldn't need surgical intervention.  It's called soap and water.  Teach them that it needs to be done in that whole 10 second extra cleaning process.

It's at birth. I got it from several different websites. Some say 59% and some say 58% but it's not 50/50. If you do a simple Google search and make sure it's a realiable source like .edu site or something like that throes are the results you find. I personally don't care what other people do when it comes to this issue, I just know if I was having a boy he would be circumcised. It's not my business what any other couple does. I just simply was stating statistics and what I have heard from some guy friends.
