MN Too Out There?

Hey ladies! We're expecting our first boy later this month. We pretty much have his name nailed down at this point, but I'm hesitating on our MN choice. To honor DH's grandfather that passed away just before we found out we were expecting, we'd like to use the MN Dash. I know it's out there, but is it TOO far out there? Yea, it's not an actual name, but it is the best option to we have for honoring his grandfather that doesn't give us other conflict with other (snottier) family members, and I figure you can have a bit more fun in the MN spot than the first. I'm just concerned that it will look unprofessional/uneducated on his resume when he's an adult.

So, what do you think? Stick with Dash or keep looking? TIA!

Re: MN Too Out There?

  • Dash is fine in the mn spot. Mns are a place to put a more fun or creative name. Plus Dashiell nn Dash is not that uncommon for a first name so I see this as a non issue.

  • Dash is a real name. Dash is a nn for Dashiel which is an old established name. You are right though , the mn spot is fine for an untraditional name. I would use it. (My son goes to school with a boy named Dash.)

  • I love it and I think it's great that you are honoring a loved one! If he's concerned about it later in life when he's applying for jobs he can always just use his middle initial on his resume.

I think it's totally fine, it's not as out there as a lot of other names.
  • It sounds like a great way to honor a family member! I agree with PPs. If he is worried about it when he's older, just use the middle initial on a resume, or omit it entirely. Either way, not a big deal.

  • Totally fine.
  • Also I have never used my middle name on a resume and it's pretty common, Nicole. I've always usedy initial .

  • Second what PP said-- I've never used my middle name on a resume either!

Either way, I like Dash and do not think it's a weird name at all. Go for it!
  • Go for it!

  • Not a fan of verbs as names so I would avoid Dash and use some other part of the grandfather's name and tell your snootier family members to get over themselves.

  • I think Dash is super cute, I'm always a sucker for names that have sentimental value. What first name do you plan to use it with? Blessings!
