Thoughts on the name Timber for a Boy

Hi all,

My husband and I want to use his initials of TC if we have boy. I am in love with the name Timber Clark. Clark is the maiden name of my husbands grandmother and Timber is a play off of my father in law's name, Timothy. What do you think of Timber? Is it too out there?

Re: Thoughts on the name Timber for a Boy

  • If you want to use the initials TC I think there are much better 'T' names you could use than timber.
Thomas, Terrence, Theodore, Tyson, Trent, Tristan...for example. I'm sure your husband and father in law will still appreciate if you use another 'T' name that is not timber.

  • I don't like Timber.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • I really want something unique. Thomas, timothy, theo are all very generic and I feel like he would have lots of kids in his class with the same name. Timber to me is masculine and modern and would be a great professional name too.
  • Timber.. lol oh no no.  Poor kid.

I can already hear the Ke$ha jokes.. the phallic jokes.. the comments from other parents when they go "wait, they named their kid what?"

    I'd re-think this.

  • Lol Timber is laughable and if he's tall I'm sure the "Tiiimmmmbbbbeeerr" jokes will get old. You can get something unique without ridiculous. Pull up the social security name list and search beyond the top 500 or top 1000. Find a legit name that is uncommon

  • Timber, really?

  • There are plenty of other "professional", unique and legitimate names OP. Look at some of the other examples people have given you. Plus the jokes that's he's going to hear about his name will be ongoing. As far as professional goes, I was a supervisor at a restaurant for a while and if I saw the name timber on a resume I'd honestly just think it was a teenager pulling a prank and look at the other resumes first.
  • Timber would not do well professionally. Think seriously.

In addition to these (Not all my style, not all your style, but all better then Timber) Are you Finnish? Norwegian? There are a bunch of T names  for these cultures that would be awesome to use, very unique for the states.

  • My thought is that Timber is not a name.  So yes, it's too out there. I
  • I really want something unique. Thomas, timothy, theo are all very generic and I feel like he would have lots of kids in his class with the same name. Timber to me is masculine and modern and would be a great professional name too.

You're confusing classic with generic. And all those names are masculine as well, since they are MALE names. All male names are masculine. As far as Timber sounding great professionally, I can tell you as someone who works for a staffing agency, that name would probably garner lots of giggles and eye rolls when seen on a resume.

Timber is pretty bad......unique is bad also. Seriously, can you imagine a 16 year old introducing himself as "Timber"? So embarrassing !
  • Hold on let me get my flannel shirt, suspenders, and work boots before I give you my opinion.

    J/k

    A truly awful name.
  • I think it's an excellent name!.....................for a German shepherd
  • Not feelin it but, worth a shot;). I do like the idea of a unique name though so keep going down that path! What do y'all think of the name Everett for a boy??

@babygrady Everett is a nice name but incredibly trendy right now along with emmett

  • Props for creativity, but it may be a matter of a 'unique' name or a high risk of him being picked on (i wish kids weren't so nasty at school but there are always a few).
if you type a name, in this case i suppose tim, in a naming site it will come up with variations so i'd give that a try. :)

    Definitely no
  • Now I've got "It's going down... I'm yelling timber!" stuck in my head on repeat. I say keep searching.

  • I know a girl who just named her daughter Timber in spite of the fact that nearly everyone told her not to do it and sang the Kesha song to her. Brutal honesty here: you're going to get a LOT of side eyes. I love the idea of keeping the family tradition alive so please consider another T name!

(Also, hi all. I've been lurking for awhile and finally decided to jump in.)

  • I'm just imagining you calling him on the playground and all the other parents looking around in terror to see if a tree is about to fall on them. In fact, it occurs to me that calling "timber" in a park could be viewed as the equivalent of calling "fire" in a crowded movie theater. This name is so bad you may literally get fined for it.
  • My name is Nicholas and if my kid one day comes to me and announces they're naming my grandkid "Nicknackpattywack" in my honor, I'd be offended.

I'm pretty sure that it would only be a great professional name if your kid is the next Ryan Secrest or something. Outside of that- no.

This didn't even come to mind! Cant even imagine being in a park and suddenly hearing 'Timber"!!! what if someone thought to call their kid 'Danger' because it is edgy.. that would be even scarier!!
